Clinton and Wisconsin met in early May and the L Kings took two out of three in the series at Appleton, WI. Righty Lars Huijer is scheduled to pitch for the LumberKings. Huijer recorded just five outs in his last start at Peoria, surrendering seven runs (five earned) on five hits, two walks, and two hit batsmen. He ll be opposed by Wisconsin ace Barrett Astin. Extra, Extra, Read all about it!...the May 9 th issue of Sports Illustrated hit store shelves last week, and the LumberKings historic 20-7 win last week in Burlington earned a four-page spread..500 Road Trip.Clinton took two-of-three in Peoria before dropping two out of three games at Kane County. The L Kings took the finale against the Cougars 3-2, despite being outhit 9-5. Poor base running and a defensive error cost the Cougars a shot at the sweep, but the blunders allowed Clinton to hang on for their fourth one-run victory of the season. The L Kings are 5- on the road this season. April Review. It was an up-and-down April for Clinton. Cold, rainy weather caused five rainouts, three of which resulted in doubleheaders. The L Kings opened the 204 season with a four-game set in Cedar Rapids and split those contests. Clinton returned home where they won three of five, two over Lake County and one over Fort Wayne. Following that home stand, Clinton hit the road for six games against MWL Eastern Division teams. They were swept by the current MWL Eastern leading Dayton Dragons in three games, but returned the favor against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, earning their first 204 sweep. The L Kings returned home for six games against Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids and did not fare well. They went -5 and were swept by the Kernels. After consecutive rainouts in Quad Cities, Clinton wrapped up April with a doubleheader split against the River Bandits on April 30. Marcus Littlewood raked to the tune of a.379 batting average, the highest mark in the MWL through one month. There s the ACE.LumberKings # starter Edwin Diaz showed why he was ranked #5 among Mariners prospects by Baseball America with a seven inning shutout performance over the Peoria Chiefs in the series finale Wednesday night. Diaz allowed only five hits in the outing, as his ERA fell to 3.9. After four consecutive starts where he allowed multiple runs, Diaz has allowed only one run over his past two starts, good for a 0.68 ERA. They Returned.Five players who donned a LumberKings uniform at some point in 203 are back with the team. They include catcher Marcus Littlewood, infielders Martin Peguero and Zach Shank, and pitchers Blake Holovach and Mark Bordonaro. Littlewood, Holovach, and Bordonaro spent their entire 203 campaigns in Clinton. Bordonaro was promoted to High Desert (Advanced-A) at the end of April. Midwest League Debut.26 LumberKings have made their Midwest League debut, the most recent being outfielder Chantz Mack, who homered to tie the game vs. Burlington which eventually led to the LumberKings first walk-off win of 204. Mariners Watch. The Seattle Mariners lost to the Houston Astros 9-4 Saturday night at Safeco Field. The Astros got a 2-for-5, 2 HR, 5 RBI night from right fielder George Springer. Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, but Houston put up a five-spot in the fifth which carried them to the eventual 9-4 win. Brandon Maurer allowed six runs on six hits and served up both homers to Springer. The M s dropped back to.500 at and will attempt to win the four-game series tomorrow with right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma (3-0,.76) getting the start. First pitch is set for 3:0 PM CT.
