The teams split the four-game series. The RubberDucks trailed, 5-2, heading into the 9 th inning Sunday, but rallied for two runs, and even had the tying run on second with two outs. However, despite giving up four hits in the inning, B-Mets closer RHP Chasen Bradford was able to slam the door by striking out 1B Ronny Rodriguez to end the game. Five Mets pitchers combined to strike out 15 Akron hitters in the game. RHP Will Roberts suffered the hard luck loss after giving up three runs, two earned, in 5 2/3 innings. Roberts was tagged with an unearned run in the third when 3B Giovanny Urshela misplayed a grounder for an error. Roberts then gave up a double in the sixth inning before leaving the game, only to see that runner score on a twoout, bad-hop single off reliever RHP Jordan Cooper. Roberts walked only one and fanned two in the game. 2B Joe Wendle was 3-4, with three singles and a walk. He is 4-6, HR, 2 BB, in his last two games. 3 RubberDucks Rewind LAST TIME OUT Sunday, April 6, 2014 Mets Outlast RubberDucks, 5-4, to Gain Series Split (Binghamton, NY) A bad-hop single by Binghamton s Travis Taijeron broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning Sunday and set the stage for a 5-4 B-Mets victory over the Akron RubberDucks in the final game of a four-game series at NYSEG Stadium. The RubberDucks (2-2) and B-Mets (2-2) split the season-opening four game series. Taijeron s single off Akron reliever Jordan Cooper hit the lip of the infield grass in front of first baseman Ronny Rodriguez and skipped into right field for an RBI single. It drove home Dustin Lawley, who had doubled earlier in the inning off RubberDucks starter Will Roberts (0-1). The Mets added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth off Cooper to take a 5-2 lead into the ninth. The RubberDucks rallied in the ninth inning with a sacrifice fly by Tyler Holt and RBI single by Francisco Lindor to pull to within 5-4. With runners on first and second and two outs, however, Binghamton closer Chasen Bradford fanned Rodriguez to end the game and post his second save. Four B-Mets pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts in the game. Starter Hansel Robles fanned eight in his Double-A debut. The B-Mets held a 2-0 lead until the sixth inning. Catcher Jake Lowery laced a two-run double to right of B-Mets reliever Jack Leathersich (1-0) to tie the game.
