Ibaraki, I.S.P. Stephen Ibaraki, I.S.P., News from National s interviewer and software reviewer has recently been recognized by Microsoft in the Success Story part of their web site. Stephen is the only Canadian selected to be profiled. There are three links to the story on Microsoft s site plus the story has gone out in their newsletter to all their professionals worldwide, more than 5 million. "Stephen Ibaraki has found both industry recognition and financial success through Microsoft certification. Stephen is also doing the deployment whitepaper and video on Windows XP that will be on the official action pack CDs when Windows XP is released in October. The taping for this will be done in Redwood City California on September 10th. And he is donating his time with all proceed for scholarships for woman in IT and for disadvantaged groups. Over the past few years, most of you will have seen the name Stephen Ibaraki, I.S.P. attached to a wide variety of book and software reviews, as well as interviews with industry leaders. Most recently Stephen has begun a newsletter for a computer book publisher New Riders. On the newsletter web site is a brief biography of Stephen. We have included it here to let you know just who Stephen is and what sort of work he does. Stephen Ibaraki, I.S.P., has been working with computer technologies since the 1960s. He designed and built his first analog system in 1965, his first digital systems in 1967, his first digital testing systems in His background includes product research, computer hardware engineering, software engineering, data communications, market research, business research, systems design, enterprise networking and planning, database design and implementation, national product management, division directorship, datacenter management, computing convenor, teaching, writing, speaking, and high-level consultancy. Due to his expertise, he designed, implemented the first national program for training computer field engineers on microcomputer, microprocessor, data communication, networking, and operating system technologies in the early 80s. He did the first design and implementation of large-scale microcomputer-based networking systems in Canada and wrote some of the first white papers on microprocessor technologies in the same time period. Due to his international expertise, he spoke at conferences on computer technology throughout North America in the 80s. With an established reputation as an innovator and leader in networked applications and advanced systems, Stephen has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for his writing, teaching, and consultancy assignments. As a partial example, he achieved the lifetime achievement "All-Star Team Award" before he was 30; he was nominated as a top writer in Science and Technology by the Western Magazine Foundation; he has achieved multiple "Excellent in Teaching Awards" from several colleges -- his current college teaching evaluations are a perfect 5/5 on all overall categories; he was awarded the highest rating and remuneration by COPA as their official IP consultant; his white papers on enterprise network design and implementation, the first ones widely distributed on microcomputer-based enterprise networking, were downloaded by thousands of companies worldwide; and he has commendations from such organizations as British Columbia Institute of Technology, Atomic Energy, University of British Columbia Triumf Cyclotron -- Nordion International, BCTEL/GTE, Federal Customs and Excise, Federal Business Development Bank, MCI/Worldcom (DataTech Systems), Canadian Office Products Association, Canadian Information Processing Society, Xephon (England), ASEA. Stephen was chosen by Dr. G. Lee (currently the college president), to setup the second Novell Education Academic Partner (NEAP) program in the country. Stephen became the first Certified Novell Instructor (CNI) mentor and trained the remaining CNIs on campus with the highest ranking on formal exams. The CNI team was evaluated by Novell to be the strongest they have ever tested with the strongest academic backgrounds. Stephen became the first Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) on campus and taught the first certified academic-program Novell and Microsoft courses. Stephen researched and first initiated the Microsoft AATP program at Capilano College. Stephen designed the first government sponsored certified program (CJS LAN program), the first evening certified program

5 (Novell 4.x), the first full evening MCSE program (NSP program), and was a key designer of the world s first fully certified academic diploma offering every major IT certification (TCP2000 program). This session will be web broadcast by SmartForce, the world s largest e-learning company as determined by IDC (revenues three times that of its nearest competitor). These broadcasts, called SmartSeminars, are webcast events that combine video, interactive slides, and chat areas to create a rich learning environment. Each event is delivered in a two-part format. Firstly, the audience will have the opportunity to watch a video of Stephen in discussion with a SmartForce interviewer. This video is accompanied by a slide presentation in the main part of the screen, which can include weblinks, rollovers, Flash and other interactive features. Poll questions are also sent to the audience, to build up a sense of their interests and engage them further in the event. During the video part of the event, audience members can submit their own questions using the message center in the lower right of the screen. The second part of the event is a live question and answer session. Over a live audio feed, the expert and the interviewer discuss a range of questions, including those that have been submitted by the audience.
