But many therapy patients don t think to travel with their equipment. This can leave them tired and reduce the overall enjoyment of the trip. Remember, even one night without therapy can cause apnea symptoms to return. There s no reason not to take your equipment with you even if you re flying. Even with newer Department of Transportation carry-on bag limits, equipment is considered a medical supply and luggage limits may not apply. It is recommended that you not check your machine, but instead carry it on. Once equipment is checked, it is much more susceptible to getting lost or damaged. Just like medications, your machine and mask are important to your health, so keep them close by. Being tired on vacation is no fun. Making sure you get the same therapy on the road as you do at home will go a long way to making your trip as enjoyable as you planned. 82 No Up-Front Costs * Liberty Accepts Medicare and Most Commercial Health Plans

New active contouring FlexiFoam cushion Added stability T-Piece Under-chin design which mask TO Use? Full Face Mask People who breathe through their mouths during the night will find full-face masks more effective than the smaller nasal masks. Full-face masks seal over both nose and mouth, allowing a consistent positive pressure. Nasal Mask Many first-time patients can use nasal masks. These masks seal around the nose, leaving the mouth free. Often smaller and lighter than full-face masks, they can provide a comfortable night s sleep. Nasal Pillow Pillow systems and cushion masks do not seal over the entire nose, or nose and mouth in the way full- face or nasal masks do. Instead, these masks fit under or around the nostrils. They can be better for people who sleep on their sides, or for people whose facial hair prevent a good seal. Opus 360 Nasal Pillow Small, quiet and superbly comfortable, the slim-line design allows for almost any sleeping position without mask displacement. 360 pivoting elbow Off-the-Lip pillows Hidden strap release Full Face/Pillow Masks Seal & Cushion Small HC HC121 Medium HC HC122 Large HC HC123 Extra Large HC HC124 One- 400HC315 Pillow Small 400HC116 Medium 400HC117 Large 400HC118 All- HC HC HC310 HCPCS A7034, A7035 A7034 A7033 A7035 IN THE KNOW TIPS SuccessFUL sleep UsINg NasAL PILLOWs If you sleep on your side or on your stomach, the nasal pillows should be sized to fit the nostrils. You ll be able to change positions easier and keep the pillow system in place. Use a bit of nasal lubricant if your nose gets irritated. It will lessen air leaks and soften the nostril s surface. Wash your face with a mild cleanser before putting on the pillow system. Facial oils can impair the pillow system s seal and lead to skin irritations. 12 Rediscover Restful Sleep Through Exercise & Weight Loss There are many reasons you might have sleep apnea. Large tonsils, gender, age and smoking all may contribute to the condition. However, a common characteristic shared by people with sleep apnea is a struggle with weight. Additional fat deposits around the neck can constrict the airway, making obstruction more likely to occur. Sleep apnea is not always related to weight, but doctors tell us that losing as little as 10 percent of our body weight can reduce moderate apnea occurrences by 14 to 26 percent. Losing weight through exercise when you have sleep apnea can be difficult. When you don t get enough sleep, you may be too tired to exert yourself. So start slow and build. Try yawning or simple deep breathing repeatedly for a few minutes to really stretch the muscles. A recent study showed that even blowing up balloons can strengthen the underlying muscles important to sleep breathing. The point is that people who regularly engage in exercise, sleep better. DID YOU KNOW? The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recently reported that a modest jog or other moderate-intensity aerobic exercise taken 4-8 hours before bedtime also improves overall sleep quality. EXERCISE Reduces stress and eases muscular tension Sharpens the brain Strengthens and stimulates the heart and lungs Vitalizes the nervous system Creates a sense of happiness and well-being Speak with a Liberty Representative Visit Us Online 85
