Chapter 1: Introduction Aurora is an identity-based framework designed to provide authorized users with direct remote access to files and folders stored on your organization s local network Windows server file systems (including Network Attached Storage devices). This direct access via an easy-to-use, Web-based interface differs greatly from competitive remote access solutions that access network content through proxy-based configurations. The software relies on Active Directory authentication and access controls that you manage from the server. Using a standard Web browser, users log in through a secure SSL connection and authenticate to Active Directory. Once authenticated, users can view and access files uploaded to their home folder, as well as the assets of any group or collaborative storage to which they are assigned, based on their organizational membership in Active Directory. The remote access capabilities at the heart of Aurora can help any organization improve productivity and enhance collaboration, even across multi-location environments. The ability to securely access and share files stored on your organization s server through a standard Web browser is a powerful tool that enables authorized users to: Create and organize folders and files over the Web Organize and access records maintained in multiple remote locations Share critical resources, updates, and progress reports online Download organizational forms and documentation Upload reports and research And more Across the entire file system hierarchy, users are allowed to access only their personal folder and any sub-folders or shared folders for which they have permission. The Web browser access method is the base method of additional access methods developed by Condrey Corporation. As the base access method, Aurora includes the server components as well as Web access to the Windows-based file system. Other components include Mobile, Sharing, and Desktop Sync modules, permitting you to design a custom range of access options for users. Contact sales@condreycorp.com for more information about these additional Aurora modules. Aurora also seamlessly integrates with File System Factory for Active Directory, a managed collaborative storage solution developed by Condrey Corporation. Aurora users can access the shared storage locations managed by File System Factory through the secure Web interface, creating virtually unlimited opportunities for multi-layered remote collaboration ideal for sharing research, educational materials, and other critical resources across a broad, multi-campus organization. 1

Chapter 2: Requirements 2.1 Operating System Requirements To properly install Aurora, your server environment requires the following components: Windows Server 2008 R2 IIS 7.5.Net 4.0 Full Package Installed Microsoft Active Directory Windows 7 Workstation (for demo purposes) o Minimum of 3GB of RAM o Dual or quad-core processor 2.2 Web Browsers Aurora Web is supported by the following modern Web browsers: Windows PC/Mac Internet Explorer Firefox Chrome Safari Mobile Devices IOS Safari (ipad) Android Firefox Opera Mobile 3
4
Chapter 3: Installation 3.1 Pre-Installation Prior to installing Aurora, make sure your Windows Server 2008 R2 server is installed with the.net 4.0 full package with IIS enabled. Note Aurora must be installed on the domain server. 3.2 Create a DNS Entry Add a new Domain Name Server (DNS) entry for the Aurora Website. The default name is aurora., followed by the domain name (EX: aurora.cctec.org). Confirm by opening the DNS Manager in Windows. You should see the aurora entry you created, as well as the server s IP address in the list. 5
3.3 Download the Software To download the Aurora installer, go to and select Aurora in the Products tab. You can also download the evaluation license from this location. 3.4 Obtain a License Obtain an evaluation license through and select Aurora in the Products tab, or use the production license you received at purchase. 3.5 Install the Software When the download is complete, Click Next to run the installer package and begin the setup process. Follow the steps below to accept the terms of the End-User License Agreement (EULA) and complete the installation process before moving on to the configuration steps. The Configuration Window will open automatically (unless you de-select the box on the Finish screen in the Setup Wizard). 6
1. Read and accept the End-User License Agreement (EULA) and click Next to continue. 2. Select the domain server on which Aurora will reside and click Next to continue. 7
3. Click Install to begin the installation process. 4. Click Finish to complete the installation. The configuration utility will launch immediately. 8
Chapter 4: System Configuration The configuration utility launches automatically when the installation process is complete. 4.1 Enable the IIS Components The Aurora Setup Wizard automatically checks for all required system components. The window displays any Microsoft IIS 7.5 services not enabled on the server. The installer will not continue until all required components are enabled. Click Enable to automatically find and enable any disabled IIS 7.5 services. This could take several minutes. 9
Once complete, the Aurora Setup Wizard indicates that all components are properly enabled and the installation can continue. This could take several minutes. 10
4.2 Set Up the Aurora Website Parameters The next configuration step enables you to check the system settings and establish the IP address for the Aurora interface that provides users with access to the Windows server file system. Website: Give the Aurora interface a Web browser name (EX: Aurora Site). Physical Path: This is the local path to the server directory on which Aurora is installed. IP Address: From the drop-down list, select the default IP address for the Aurora server. 11
Port: Assign Aurora a secure port (defaults to port 443) to authenticate users to Active Directory. Hostname: This is the DNS entry created on your domain server prior to installation. If you have not done that yet, this window will inform you that you need to create the DNS entry to continue with the installation. Application Pool Name: Identifies the IIS application pool Aurora uses to manage user processes. Managed Pipeline Mode: Automatically identifies the current setting of the IIS application pool. This field should indicate that the Managed Pipeline is in Integrated mode..net Framework Version: Identifies the version of.net the IIS pool will use. Register ASP.NET with IIS: We recommend that you leave this box checked because it enables the Setup Wizard to automatically register ASP.NET to ensure that Aurora functions properly. 12
4.3 Configure the Windows Firewall All Windows Firewall options are checked by default. If you are unsure about your firewall configuration, we recommend leaving all boxes checked. Otherwise, based on your desired network settings, de-select any unwanted Windows Firewall options and click Next. 13
4.4 Complete the System Configuration When the firewall settings are configured, the final Setup Wizard screen indicates that the initial setup is complete. You still need to upload the license to the system, requiring you to log in to Aurora as the system administrator (see Chapter 5). Clicking Finish automatically opens a Web browser and directs to the domain name you established for the Aurora Website. 14
Chapter 5: Aurora Configuration Note The following configuration steps must be performed on the Aurora server. 5.1 Log In to the Aurora Website When the install is complete, you are automatically directed to the Aurora login screen via your default browser. First, log in with your administrator user name and password to complete the final Aurora configuration steps. Note If logging into Aurora on a mobile device, check the View as mobile device box below the Log In button. 15
5.2 Install the License 1. Click Upload License File to open the upload window. 2. Select the license from the saved location via the browse button and click Upload. 16
5.3 Enter the Proxy Account Credentials The Aurora Proxy Account is used to verify and manage the user group assigned to the license. Provision the Proxy Account in Active Directory. The proper path format is domain\user account name. 5.4 Creating the Authorized Users Group The Authorized Users Group specifies which users may access their storage via the Web interface, as defined by their group permissions in Active Directory. This is also the group on which the license account is based. The proper path format is domain\group name (EX: cctec\domain users). 17
You also have the option to configure an Unauthorized Users Group. Any domain users added to this group are not permitted to authenticate and access their files through Aurora. This does not affect the license count for the Authorized Users Group, which is based solely on the membership to that group. Important Aurora must be licensed for a set number of seats. The license number should always be greater than the actual number of seats on the license (to allow for the growth of users within your organization). Otherwise, if the number of users exceeds the seat limit, Aurora will stop functioning for all current users until additional seats are purchased. 5.5 Complete the User Storage Settings First, create the File Upload Temporary Folder by entering the desired file path. This folder must be created locally to the server on which Aurora is installed and should be located within the Aurora root folder. User files are initially uploaded to this temp folder before moving into the permanent location where the user wants to store their files. 5.6 File System Factory Integration While it can be used as a stand-alone application, Aurora integrates seamlessly with File System Factory for Active Directory a managed collaborative storage solution developed by Condrey Corporation to greatly expand user access and collaboration capabilities. Any collaborative storage being managed by the File System Factory software may be accessed through the Aurora interface, based on the group home directory attribute assigned to the collaborative storage location. Aurora also provides the ability to display any auxiliary storage managed in File System Factory. 18
If you are not using Aurora with File System Factory, disable the options by unchecking both boxes below the Upload Temp Folder field. If you have integrated Aurora with File System Factory, but do not want to display auxiliary storage, uncheck the second box only. Click Save Changes to complete configuration. 5.7 Configure Group Storage While File System Factory is useful for managing group storage on your network, there may be collaborative storage areas that users need to access which are not managed by File System Factory. Aurora allows you to assign custom group storage areas so that member users can easily access that storage. Follow these steps to configure access to a group storage area based on user membership within an Active Directory group on the network. 1. To begin, click the Storage Mappings tab at the top of the page. 2. On the next screen, click New to map the path you will use. 19
3. Enter the Drive Alias, the Group NT4 Account (Domain/Group Name), and the Target UNC Path for the group storage location path. The sample screenshot below has mapped to a hypothetical S Drive on the cctec domain, with a group name of IT Dept, and a target path of \\cctec-srv\support. 4. Finally, click Update to complete the Aurora configuration. You can edit this mapping later or delete it altogether. 5. When finished, log out of the Aurora configuration window at the top right. 20
Chapter 6: Confirm the Settings Now that Aurora is installed and configured on your server, confirm that the application is working properly by creating two users with different permission profiles in Active Directory (as defined by your organization s policies). Then log in with their user names and passwords to view the folders displayed in their interface, which should conform to their individual permission profile. For demonstration purposes in the examples below, assume that one user (acox) is a member of a school s IT staff, and another user (amartin) is a teacher at the school. Both users have uploaded files to their personal folders, and each of the share groups contains its own set of folders and files. File storage for these example groups is managed by File System Factory for Active Directory, so access is provided based on integration and enablement in the Aurora configuration. For authorized users, any group storage is automatically displayed based on their group membership. 6.1 Example 1: IT Support Logging in as acox (Figure 6.1) shows access to her home folder, as well as to the shared folder for the IT support group to which she belongs (S Drive, which is the IT support group s shared storage location). She may access any of her own folders and files as well as those of the share group. Figure 6.1: Example Aurora User Interface (IT Support Staff) 21
6.2 Example 2: Teacher Logging in as teacher amartin (Figure 6.2) displays his home folder as well as the shared group folders for English 101 and Accounting 101 (the two classes he teaches). He can also see the Turnin folder to which his students upload their completed work. He cannot access shared folders for other classes, nor can he see the other teachers Turnin folders. Figure 6.2: Example Aurora Interface (Teacher) 22
