1 WELCOME Welcome to the fourth newsletter of our project: Collaborative Holistic Design Laboratory and Methodology for Energy-Efficient Embedded Buildings (eeembedded), funded by the 7 th Framework Programme (FP7). Its duration is 4 years. It started on the 1 st of October 2013 and has a budget of nearly 11 M. Our project eeembedded has been running for two years now. We are half-way and interesting results are already coming out. In this newsletter, you will find information about the open platform initiative, summaries of some deliverables (D2.1, D2.2, D2.3 and D4.2) and news about expert webinars and upcoming events. IN THIS ISSUE Open Platform Initiative 1 D2.1 Holistic multi-disciplinary KPI 2 D2.2 Templates for fast semiautomatic detailing 2 D2.3 Holistic KPI based design methodology 3 D4.2 Energy System Information Model 3 eeembedded webinars 4 Meetings in the current period 5 eeb presented at / Upcoming events 5 We hope you enjoy this newsletter. OPEN PLATFORM INITIATIVE The EU is investing a lot of resources in Research & Development of information technologies to support energy efficient buildings (covering the whole umbrella of issues such as: design and re-design, new and old buildings, operation, control and management, etc.). Many European funded projects have developed or are developing similar software components. To take full advantage of the EU resources and to help the scientific and industry community progressing with new innovations, Prof. Scherer (TUD, Project Coordinator of the eeembedded project and project coordinator of some other BIM related projects in the field of energy efficient buildings) took the initiative to start and promote an open BIM platform to put in common, share, integrate and build-upon software developments achieved by different EU project or stakeholders. For that reason, the Open BIM Platform Services (openeebim.org) was born as a non-profit initiative and with the support of some related EU funded projects. The objectives of the Open BIM Platform Services (openeebim.org) is to provide software developments configured as modular services, which are dedicated to supporting BIM working. The open BIM software services should help to downscale the development of BIM software system avoiding repetitive re-development of same-kind basic services.. The final goal to provide prototypes developed in research projects to a broader community, to motivate them to further develop the prototypes providing the horizon to even transform the prototypes into business cases, whereas individual property rights should always be respected. 1
2 eee D2.1 HOLISTIC MULTI-DISCIPLINARY KEY POINT BASED DESIGN FRAMEWORK The objective of Deliverable D2.1 was to define and specify technically and semantically underpinned Key Points (KP) which play the role of control units guiding and structuring the complex design process and the multi-disciplinary design team. The set of standardized concepts, procedures and software solutions which integrate the Key Point Framework are defined and specified in this document. The overall concept of the Key Points Framework consists of translating the requirements into verifiable Key Points in order to evaluate different design alternatives and analyze and discard some of them progressively in a guided process which is firstly based on Key Design Parameters (KDPs) in the design domains, secondly on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in simulation/calculation domains and thirdly on Decision Values (DVs) in Decision Making Domain. Deliverable D2.1 provides the eee Key Point Framework as basis for a work environment to support end-users. eee D2.2 TEMPLATES FOR FAST SEMIAUTOMATIC DETAILING Semi-automatic detailing by the use of eetemplates enables significant improvements in the entire planning and shortens the time of design process, one of the basic preconditions in order to achieve better and faster planning results. The objective of this deliverable is to elaborate a generic eetemplate format structure together with its individual syntax components. The generic eetemplate content is be divided into main data blocks and described in detail. The figure aside demonstrates the use of eetemplates in the TO-BE process from the application perspective point of view. The output of this Deliverable provides a technical eetemplate definition, which serves the creation of eetemplates used by the Software applications integrated into the eeembedded System Architecture. Deliverable D2.2 is based on the investigation of the eetemplates and the results demonstrated in the D1.4 (which were already summarised in the last newsletter No. 3), where profound insight was outlined into the eetemplate content and its usage in elaborated use cases scenarios of the design phase. 2
3 eee D2.3 HOLISTIC KPI BASED DESIGN METHODOLOGY The objective of D2.3 Holistic KPI based design Methodology was to go forward from conceptual specifications to implementation specifications. For that purpose, conceptual outcomes and approaches of the first and a half year of the project have been collected and their IT implementation has been envisioned in order to identify and describe in further detail the implementation requirements and steps. Therefore, Deliverable D2.3 addresses firstly the overall specifications of eee Methodology implementation, secondly it provides implementation specifications for Templates and thirdly it describes Key Point specifications beyond implementation. This deliverable is a bridge between end-users concepts and developers work, it provides reference information for Virtual Lab IT developing. eee D4.2 ENERGY SYSTEM INFORMATION MODEL (ESIM) The complexity of urban and building energy systems embedded within neighbourhoods requires to treat the design and operational phase as a multi-dimensional and multi-layered task instead of a one-way task from the supplier and contractor to the customer. Deliverable 4.2 describes the basic approach of modelling energy systems while considering existing approaches and standards. The ESIM mission is to fulfill the gap of handling all information demands and collaboration requirements during the design of energy systems in an appropriate manner. Within the eeembedded context the ESIM is a domain specific model that provides information of the urban and building energy system including the automation and control systems. It comprises functional, structural and physical descriptions of the systems as master data and additional operation data. It joins or connects information of certain domain data models (see Figure 1): Building Information Model (BIM) Neighbourhood Information Model (NIM) BACS and HVAC models Others (e.g. climate model, prices model, user behaviour model) Figure 1: Shell Model showing the overlapping areas between ESIM, BIM and Neighbourhood Information Model (NIM) For the information exchange of the ESIM and the mentioned domain data models the so called Multi- Model approach was chosen. The term Multi-Model describes the combination of multiple related elementary models from different domains. Figure 2 illustrates the eeebim Multi-Model and the interlinkage of the ESIM and other elementary models using a Link Model (LM). 3
4 Figure 3: ESIM core parts Figure 2: ESIM in the eeebim Multi-Model The Figure 3 shows the ESIM core parts which allow to describe and identify energy system and sub-systems in a unique manner covering wide range of aspects supporting not only design but also the operation phase. Furthermore, modelling environments supporting system and requirement engineering approach by using System Modelling Language (SysML) were investigated in this deliverable. Finally, the formal specification and conceptualization of the ESIM ontology were presented as starting point of an implementation. EEEMBEDDED WEBINARS October / November 2015 The eeembedded team will host expert and end-user webinars where the current progress will be shown and active debates between expert attendants will be motivated to get reflection on the eee developments.
