The following pages will help you to 14 explore some of the opportunities. Some points to consider. The shape and size of the room will govern the size of your showering area. Positioning of the washbasin or water closet may restrict the type of door you can choose. Consider the nature of your floor if its waterproof the choice is limitless and you may even choose from the ultimate Walk-in Shower pro-

15 gramme from Kermi. If the floor is untiled and is timber or a timber-based product protected only by an overlayed floor covering then choose a watertight shower enclosure product. Bella from Kermi is the perfect solution to satisfy this need. Consider the taps and shower valve finishes and if you wish to co-ordinate the Shower frame Kermi offer either Polished High Lustre Silver or Matt Silver to blend. Should you choose White relax in the knowledge that Kermi Enclosures and Towel Radiators are a standard match for the Bath and Sanitaryware standard European White (RAL 9016). The bathroom floor plan and position of the shower form the starting point for the choice of the right shower Enclosure. If the position and shape of the bath have already been decided, the basic type of shower Enclosure has already been predetermined. But, needless to say, by no means the model. Because, for every type, Kermi offers countless variations to meet differing demands, personal preferences and individual requirements. 16

Sliding door quadrants (eg Ibiza) are particularly effective in this respect. Kermi also offer a range of Quadrant shower trays to make sure the enclosures and trays are dimensionally compatible. Offset shapes (eg 1200x800, 1200x900) are also available where space may allow. 22

U-shapes can be formed using any product from the Kermi range. Where wall stabilisers are not supplied as standard (RialtoXS, Bella, Ibiza ranges) then Multimax stabilisers must be used for extra stability. See page

Where standard products will not fit Kermi offer a bespoke tailor-made service to meet your specific requirements. Sloping roofs, non-standard widths or heights, cut-outs and more or less any dimensional adjustment can be catered for. This service requires a strictly accurate dimensional drawing, a few weeks extra time for manufacture, and carries an extra charge related to the extent of alteration required. The Kermi bespoke service can offer the perfect solution where all else fails. A highly personalised service. 28

29 Here the Bella Quadrant has been modified to cater for a sloping ceiling on the right and to the left a horizontal sealing profile to provide a watertight seal to the adjacent washbasin vanity unit. Illustrated here is an Ibiza sliding corner entry where the right hand fixed panel is omitted but the bearers remain allowing the right hand door to slide normally. 29

30 Improving enclosure stability. SUPPORT AND STABILITY 30 Often your shower may need additional support for extra stability and fully secure fixing. Toca XP, Aska XP and Siesta ranges have wall stabilisers integrated into the design and supplied as standard with every model. Minimalist frameless designs demand this additional security. Kermi Multimax is a simple solution for extra stability. For Bella and Ibiza ranges the Kermi Multimax stabilisers are necessary for larger size models and for U-shaped solutions. Conveniently Kermi wall stabilisers all provide bathing accessory hanging facilities (see opposite).

31 Kermi Multimax is versatile and adjustable on site. Multimax is available in a range of finishes to complement enclosure frame finishes. Multimax enables you to have all your showering accessories readily at hand from the convenient hangers provided. Multimax is a must for U-shaped Bella and Ibiza solutions and also strongly recommended for larger model sizes in these ranges for additional stability. 31

32 How watertight can a shower enclosure be? SPLASHPROOF OR WATERTIGHT The ideal solution with a distinctive profile. Exceptionally strong, highly adaptable and unsurpassed for watertightness. The elegant solution with a slim profile for attractive bathroom highlights and effective watertightness. High profiles. The higher the bottom profile the better the resistance to the outflow of water. High bottom profiles eg Bella will act as a dam and prevent water outflow. This is a watertight solution. Watertightness is also a question of design. A shower cubicle is neither an aquarium nor a plunge bath. Its purpose is to contain the spray during normal showering. Whether this function is performed to the optimum extent or with limitations is not a question of price but is heavily dependent on design. Thus, for example, pure beauty without disruptive profiles demands its own price. In this case, water can penetrate outside. But anyone deciding in favour of an exclusive, all- glass cubicle will undoubtedly simply ignore the first option, as in the case of a fine linen jacket which, it goes without saying, will crease. 32

33 Points to remember: Appearance and design also affect functionality. A high price does not automatically mean efficient watertightness. The frameless all-glass cubicle. Purity of design with nothing to disturb the eye, but with a distinct limitation when it comes to watertightness. Shallow profiles. A shallow bottom profile offers less resistance to overspill and is splashproof rather than watertight. Tiled floors would be appropriate for this type of product. No profile. Water will inevitably escape where there is no bottom profile as with frameless minimalist design products. Care should be taken to provide appropriate water sealed flooring to avoid water absorption into the floor for this type of product. If there is a need to improve watertightness, the Kermi all-glass range offers each model with a small sill as an option. 33

34 To continue to enjoy your shower. RECOMMENDED CLEANING Type of cleaning Routine cleaning. Recommended cleaning interval Immediately after showering. Use hot, Dry. clean water, then spray down with cold water. Major cleaning. Clean with a dilute solution of vinegar and water. Rinse off with clean water. Dry. Carry out weekly or monthly according to frequency of use or as necessary. Intensive cleaning. Polish with Rinse polishing off with paste clean (glass in water. dry condition). Dry. Carry out in cases of heavy soiling and the formation of limescale and mineral hazing. Also if not cleaned for a prolonged period of time. 34 Correct cleaning is important. Kermi shower cubicles are designed to reduce the need for cleaning to a minimum, with profiles from which the water runs off cleanly, and with generally smooth interior surfaces. Nevertheless, to ensure that your Kermi cubicle keeps its shine on a lasting basis, you should observe certain guidelines. To clean profiles and panels, use only mild, generally available care products (no micro-fibre cloths). Do not use cleansing or scouring agents, alcohol, nitro-thinners, etc. under any circumstances. The surface properties of safety glass can be compared with window panes, glass table-tops, drinking glasses, etc. If they are inappropriately treated, e.g. with steel wool, they will get scratch marks, while limescale causes opacity. The decisive factor is regular cleaning, since the older the deposits, the more difficult they are to remove.

KermiClean is a treatment to the surface of the glass which makes the surface much more resistant to dirt and limescale deposits. This has the added benefit of greatly reducing the frequency of cleaning and is available on all Kermi enclosures. Required Not required Under no circumstances The right way to clean. The method and frequency of cleaning depend on the type of glass and quality of the water. Recommended cleaning for KermiClean products. only use soft cloths (no micro fibre materials). do not use aggressive or abrasive cleaners adhere strictly to the proprietary cleaner manufacturers directions. Caveat any cleaner used must not contain scouring agents and after cleaning glass and profiles must be washed down with clean water to prevent residues or damage to the profile surfaces. KermiClean is an excellent solution to minimise cleaning in areas of hard water supply which contain high levels of minerals and limescale. 36 Choose between crystal clear glass or discreetly opaque options. TYPES OF GLASS The degree of glass transparency. Clear glass is totally transparent and is the choice where bathing in a bright environment with maximum light is the preference. Where more subtlety or discretion is the preference then Kermi offer a variety of glass finishes. Opaco glass is a subtle soft milk shade smooth on both sides. ESG SR Siesta is a lightly dimpled water droplet affect on the outside and smooth on the inside. This offers medium opacity. ESG SR Arena C is a more densely dimple glass on the outside offering a higher level of opacity. A range of choice for personal preference. 36

37 Real glass has a green edge. A natural characteristic of real glass is a visible green edge which is easy to identify. The edge of any piece of glass is the most vulnerable point which means it is important to make sure there is no contact with adjacent objects when you choose the type of door as highlighted earlier in this guide. Kermi safety glass conforms to the European Standard EN and is impact resistant and shockproof. Kermi safety glass is unaffected by heat and cold. Caveat. Once your glass door has been fitted carefully check the edges to make sure no damage has occurred during installation as this may cause latent glass failure.
