8 How Does SureFlap Work? 1. Cat Approaches Flap 2. Cat Activates Microchip Reader A continuous beam of infrared light reflects off the bottom of the tunnel. When a cat puts its head in the tunnel it breaks the beam of light and activates the microchip reader. The microchip reader generates an electromagnetic field which provides power to the microchip in the cat s neck. 3. SureFlap Reads Cat s Microchip Number 4. Cat Flap Opens The microchip communicates with SureFlap and its unique number is checked against the microchip numbers stored in memory. If the microchip number matches one of those stored in the memory, the door unlocks allowing the cat to enter the house.

9 Product Overview Battery Compartment SureFlap runs on 4 AA batteries which should last up to a year with typical use. Exterior Frame Screws into the rear of the main assembly. Rotary Manual Lock Four position rotary lock allows the owner to override the motorised catch to any combination of in/out. Motorised Catch The catch only opens if the cat trying to gain entry has its microchip number stored in the memory. Status Light Indicates Learn Mode and Low Battery Warning. Microchip Reader Integrated into the tunnel. Memory Button Hold down for one second to enter Learn Mode. Hold down for 10 seconds to wipe the memory.
