They usually provide care to patients with gastrointestinal diseases, heart failure, diabetes and other acute diagnoses A surgical nurse monitors the patient's vital signs and overall assessment of our patients. Our patients usually have several drains in place and surgical incisions which must be monitored. We 19 Nursing 3W = Post Surgical also use epidurals and PCA's for pain control. Our unit believes in early ambulation of surgical population. We also have the capacity to monitor our patient's heart rhthyms. We care for cardiothoracic, vascular and abdominal Around half of the patients we care for are having a planned surgery either for their knee, hip or back.
