1 ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT 2013
2 Overview & Brief History
3 Brief Overview Punjab Institute of Cardiology is a unique facility of its kind in the province. Its primary role is to provide quality tertiary care to heart patients. PIC also trains post graduate doctors and paramedics and also assists the rest of the cardiac hospitals in the Punjab, besides educating the masses on preventive measures. For its size the output of this hospital is far greater than any other similar institution within the country. Treatment provided by PlC is totally free for poor and entitled patients and the private patents are treated at a much lower cost than rest of the private hospitals in the town. Emergency service is open 24 hours and emergency treatment is totally free for everyone without distinction The range of facilities for comprehensive treatment include a 347 bedded hospital, all relevant diagnostic tests, interventional and operative procedures and intensive cardiac care units Government of the Punjab is the main source of funding. However the quantum of work load far exceeds official resources. To improve our services and to cater for maximum treatment of the poor, PIC generates funds out of share money from private practice and through substantial contribution from the philanthropists and private donors To name a few; free food to all the indoor patients, addition of a cardiac care unit, improvement of existing ICU, new surgical ward, prayer hall, collection centre, musafar khana, poor patients ward, funds for medicines etc are some of the examples of contributions made by private donors. PIC is fortunate to have a highly qualified and experienced team of cardiologists and surgeons who are ably supported by well trained nursing and paramedic staff. We have introduced modern management and patient care systems. Four of our departments have been ISO certified and the rest will be completed soon.
4 Postgraduate fellowship trainees are assigned research projects and PIC publishes a well reputed professional Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases. PIC has also chalked out a long term development plan for which we are seeking government support and private participation. PIC has provided administrative and technical support to Multan, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi Institutes of Cardiology and now providing technical support to Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology. Brief History and Introduction 1. Brief History. The Emergency ward is most active since Every facility is available at the bedside to monitor any cardiac emergency like cardiac monitors, ECG machines, X-Ray, Echocardiography, Defibrillators and Temporary Pacemakers. All sorts of cardiac emergencies are directly received in the emergency ward. These are then screened, assessed, managed and admitted / referred to the respective units of PIC or other hospitals accordingly. Chief of Cardiology and his team of consultants are available for consultation round the clock while Senior Registrar is available day & night to attend the cardiac patients.
