4 MEDICAL SOCIAL SERVICES PROJECT THE CHILDREN S HOSPITAL & THE INSTITUTE OF CHILD HEALTH, FEROZEPUR ROAD, LAHORE. BRIEF Medical Social Services Project is working under Dept. of Social Welfare, Women Development and Bait-ul-Maal, Punjab. Medical Social Services Project was established in February Mission Statement To help out the poor, deserving and non affording patients suffering from acute & chronic diseases by providing them free medicines, hearing aids, diet/food, operation items and all other welfare services.
5 Administration Structure Provision of Free Treatment through Different Channels. Medical Social Services Project is providing treatment assistance from four channels: 1. Zakat Fund (Health Welfare Committee) 2. Anjuman Behbood-e-Marizan (Regd.) Fund 3. Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal Fund 4. Different Donors.

ZAKAT FUND (Health Welfare Committee) The Health Welfare Committee consists of MS/Convener, Medical Social Officer/Secretary, District Zakat Officer/Nominee of Zakat Department and a Senior Doctor. The Children s Hospital receives an amount of Rs. 3 million annually from Central Zakat Fund. These funds are not at all sufficient to cater the needs of huge number of patients as hospital facilitates patients from all over Punjab so enhancement of Zakat fund is very essential to provide free services to maximum number of patients. The Zakat funds are utilized in the provision of free medicines to only non-affording Muslim patients. 2. ANJUMAN BEHBOODI-E-MARIZAN It consists of 25 members, Medical Director is the President of Anjuman Behboodi-e-Marizan. The funds for Anjuman Behboodi-e-Marizan are arranged through different donors. Services Provided by the Anjuman Behboodi-e-Marizan Provision of free medicines and operation items. Free MRI and CT Scan tests. Providing Hearing Aid, Wheel Chairs, Artificial limbs, etc. Providing free Ambulance service. Providing Bracket fans, Chairs, Electric Water Coolers for the hospital. Recreational programs for children. Celebration of Religious and National days. The funds of Anjuman Behboodi-e-Marizan are utilized for both Muslim and Non Muslim patients who are deserving. 3. PAKISTAN BAIT-UL-MAAL The funds which are available from Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal are utilized in the treatment of chronic diseases such as:- Cancer Cardiac Surgery Nephrology patients Provision of free Hearing Aids.
7 Individual grant is received from Pakistan Bait ul Maal for each patient whose application is accepted by PBM. The funds received from Pakistan Bait ul Maal are also utilized for both Muslim and Non-Muslim patients. 4. DIFFERENT DONORS Different donors are also attached with Medical Social Services Project, who are working for the welfare of poor & deserving patients. Their services include: Provision of free expensive injections for the patients suffering from a disease named GBS. Provision of free wheel chairs for disabled patients. Provision of different items like milk, pampers, clothes and blankets etc. for unclaimed babies admitted in the hospital. Provision of chairs, electric water coolers and bracket fans in the hospital. Help to renovate different wards. Give Zakat Save Lives
8 SERVICES PROVIDED BY MSSP THE CHILDREN S HOSPITAL & THE INSTITUTE OF CHILD HEALTH, LAHORE. 1. Prepare case histories of chronic patients having financial, psychological and social problems in accordance with case work techniques. Plan and organize social services keeping in view individual needs and help them for their social rehabilitation. 2. Medical Social Services Project help out the poor, deserving, non affording patients suffering from acute & chronic diseases by providing them free medicines, Hearing Aids, Diet/Food, Operation items etc. 3. Project also provides Ambulance Service for the disposal of dead bodies. 4. Cardiac patients are facilitated for surgeries through Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal. 5. MRI Scanning and CT Scan is free for deserving patients from MSSP. 6. MSSP makes possible the arrangements for the celebration of different National and Religious occasion and distribute Gifts for poor, destitute patients on Eid Days and other occasions. 7. MSSP provide CP and Wheel Chairs for poor crippled children. 8. Visit wards with hospital staff and after indicating deserving patients provide them assistance according to their individual needs. 9. Co-ordination with hospital administration and voluntary social welfare agencies for initiating social welfare services. Apart from all above activities, Moral and Psychological counseling of distressed patients is done from the platform of MSSP.
