3 Preface Educational Statistics at a Glance is a handbook which presents statistical data on important educational indicators, different parameters of school and higher education, budgetary expenditure on education, population, literacy etc. Most of the data in the handbook is already contained in various publications of the Ministry. Attempt has been made to present time series data on number of institutions, enrolment as well as important indicators like Gross Enrolment Ratio, Gender Parity Index and Pupil Teacher Ratio. It is our constant endeavour to improve the handbook. Further, suggestions/comments/changes, if any, for improving the handbook are always welcome and may be sent to the Statistics Division in the Department. Dated: (B.N.
