3 What is Leadership? Where every employee does what it takes to help the organization reach its goals

4 5 Truths People are important and deserve respect People are good and want to do a good job People are generally self-motivated It is our job to assist others to grow and become stars It is our job to make each other look good

5 Basic Rules of Leadership 1 st person communication Say what you mean Mean what you say Be nice when you say it Give the benefit of the doubt If you can complain, you can just do There can be no punishment/retribution (ie silent treatment) Always make each other look good

6 How you could/should demonstrate leadership 1. Think of yourself as extraordinary doing/being more than ordinary. Remove the word can t from your professional life. 2. Solve problems whether task related or about office morale. When you work with the mindset of making improvements, you are thinking like a leader. 3. Be up on yourself, be prepared and develop patience and persistence. 4. Leaders create an environment where everyone is valued, and diversity contributes to valuable new ideas. Get to know the people you work. 5. Practice the art of persuasion by using compelling examples, facts and mutual benefits when you ask for something you want. 6. Have a vision you can design extraordinary ways to do your ordinary work. 7. When you avoid gossip, criticism, sarcasm and negative comments, and substitute compliments, encouragement, appreciation and cheery greetings, you are practicing leadership skills that will get you noticed, because you are becoming a positive role model.

11 Build Trust Create an environment where everyone is valued. Get to know your co-workers. Become aware of cultural differences in communication and work styles. Realize that people with different backgrounds can contribute valuable new ideas.
