28 Mechanics Class Format: The course will be based on two types of classes: Regular Classes: Workshops, lectures and student presentations. Group meetings: To follow up the advances of the projects, scheduled on a case-by-case basis. Contact via at raspallgalli@tugraz.at. Connection with Projectübung: This class is graded separately from Studio, and requires a separate presentation. It is possible and encouraged, but not required that the work for the class will connect with the development of the studio project. Groups: Students will work in groups, same as the the groups for studio. Evaluation Criteria and Grading: The objective of the class is that by the end you are able to have an understanding of how to create a parametric model that is related with a fabrcation strategy, understand how to extract infomation and make that information useful to directly control fabrication equipment. With this knowledge the ambition is that you are able to think in innovative ways of doing allowed by new tools. Grading: Attendance and participation10%, intermediate submissions 40%, final presentation 50% Software: Rhinoceros 5, Grasshopper, latest build, Millipede (GH component), HAL (GH component), Firefly (GH component) and WeaverBird (GH component) TU Graz. Summer Semester Big Scale: Bottom-up Methods in Design and Manufacturing Instructor: Felix Raspall
29 Schedule Before Easter Break: Introduction to the course Introduction to Module 1, module 2 and module 3 During Easter Break: ABB Lab workshops, recommended for those staying in Graz, not required After Easter Break: Start of the final exercise Advanced contents of Module 1, 2 and 3 TU Graz. Summer Semester Big Scale: Bottom-up Methods in Design and Manufacturing Instructor: Felix Raspall
30 Final Project The course supports a semester-long project, which should be understood as an investigation on a specific assembly technique and digital and material workflow. Case studies are intended to serve as platform to propose a new tectonic development with novel performance, expression and fabrication. The direction of the project will be narrowed down during the course of the semester. The project requires both analysis and development of digital models and extensive physical prototyping and tooling. TU Graz. Summer Semester Big Scale: Bottom-up Methods in Design and Manufacturing Instructor: Felix Raspall
