Location: Auditorium Presenter: Kari Fast, Counselor This session will discuss the various post secondary enrollment options for students attending Southeast Polk High School. The session will include details about PSEO programming, Career Advantage, and Central Campus. The guidelines, registration process, and requirements of each program will be discussed. FAFSA Tips Location: Multipurpose Room (S140) Target Audience: Grade 12 Presenter: Tracie Pavon, Assistant Vice President for Enrollment & Financial Assistance Simpson College This session will discuss some common mistakes to avoid when completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). General tips will be distributed and questions will be answered. College Planning 101 Location: N 146 Target Audience: Grades 9 and 10 Presenter: Amy Daugherty, Counselor This session will cover basic college planning information for parents who have not attended a session in the past from the SEP Counselors on College and Career Readiness. A general timeline of college planning steps will be discussed. DMACC Educational Options for Life After High School Location: N 148 Target Audience: Grades 11 and 12 Presenter: Kaci Conetzkey, DMACC Academic Advisor DMACC offers a wide variety of associate s degrees and diploma programs. This session will highlight some of the more popular programs with high school students. Time will be devoted to answering questions. Trends in the Iowa Workforce Location: N164 Target Audience: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 Presenter: Vonceil Steward Kai and Jeova Flores Alverez, Iowa Workforce Development This session will focus on current trends and career outlook for various professions in Iowa. The career areas with the greatest need in the state of Iowa will be highlighted.

4 ACT Test Prep Breaking Down the ACT Location: N165 Presenter: Shelly Stille and Julene Pappan, Language Arts Teachers This session will discuss the basics of registering for the ACT. A breakdown of each test will be discussed along with some simple tips for success. NCAA Clearinghouse Location: N168 Target Audience: Grades 10, 11, and 12 Presenter: Dan Anderson, Director of Compliance at Drake University This session will discuss the protocol for registering for the NCAA and NAIA Clearinghouse. Materials needed to navigate this system will be addressed. Rules as they relate to athletic recruitment will be discussed. College Visits: How to Get the Most Out of Your Time Location: N 169 Presenter: Michelle Feldmann, Counselor The protocol for scheduling a college campus visit will be discussed. This session will also highlight key ways to maximize the campus visit. What to ask, what to see, and how to navigate the campus visit will be addressed. Notes:

5 Session 2: 7:00 7:25 p.m. College Search Tools and Tricks Location: Auditorium Presenter: Jessica Schultz, Iowa College Access Network This session will demonstrate the most recent tools in the college search process. Areas to explore and consider when researching colleges will be highlighted and explained. Financial Planning for Post Secondary Education Location: Multipurpose Room (S140) Target Audience: Grades 9 and 10 Presenter: Mike Johnson, Financial Planner This session will discuss the steps involved with financial planning for a post secondary education. This session will address topics specific to how to fund and save for an education beyond high school. National Exam Testing Options ~ Not as Scary as They Sound Location: N 146 Target Audience: Grades 9, 10, and 11 Presenter: Amy Daugherty, Counselor This session will explain the differences between the national exams students need to complete for their post secondary plans. The ACT, SAT, ecompass, ASVAB and National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) will be specifically discussed. Questions addressing which exam is a fit for your student will be answered. Student transition is critical to overall success as a student moves towards program completion at the college level. Ideas to help students be successful and tenacious will be explored. Military Question + Answer Location: N 168 Target Audience: Grades 11 and 12 Presenter: Recruiters from the various military branches This session will introduce the various military branches and their requirements for enlistment. Specific recruitment questions, leadership opportunities, and educational options will be discussed. Post Secondary Planning for Highly Selective Institutions Location: N169 Target Audience: Grades 9, 10, and 11 Presenter: Valerie Powell, Gifted Education Counselor There are several specific details to be considered when applying for highly selective colleges and military academies. Strategies for completing the Common Application will be addressed. Strategies will discussed to help the student applicant distinguish himself/herself from other candidates to these highly selective programs. Notes:

Information will be distributed for contacts within the community for students who want to start on this career path. Scholarship Search and Resume Building Location: N 169 Target Audience: Grades 11 and 12 Presenter: Valerie Powell, Gifted Education Counselor This session will highlight how to find and apply for scholarships. The scholarship list posted to the Southeast Polk High School Guidance website will be introduced. Registration with scholarship search engines, such as School Soup and Fastweb, will also be discussed. This session will also address the importance of students generating an all inclusive resume.
