AES Shareholder Programs, Training, and Development
Introduction ASRC Energy Services has partnered with producers, vocational training centers, and educational institutions to give ASRC Shareholders potential career opportunities by providing them with training and exposure to the oil and gas industry through internships, on-the-job training, NCCER apprenticeship training, and paid jobs training. The goal of AES s Shareholder Programs,Training and Development is three-fold: Provide North Slope communities with economic development opportunities. Familiarize Shareholders with the types of services AES provides to the industry. Prepare the next generation for careers as professionals and skilled craft workers. The success of these programs results in a steady supply of qualified, skilled employees for the oil and gas industry, trained to be a more safe and productive workforce.
Shareholder Internship program Designed for ASRC Shareholders who are pursuing a higher education at an accredited college or university, the AES Internship program familiarizes students with potential, professionallevel career paths in the oil and gas industry and prepares them for successful careers after graduation. Placement is based on the intern s area of interest and provides them with a year-round paid job while giving them opportunities for mentorship with successful employees. Another aspect of the program includes a model Board of Directors simulation where interns learn Parliamentary procedure and the roles and responsibilities of board members. Interns use these skills during monthly meetings to discuss their involvement in community service projects, cultural activities, and other events. The simulation teaches interns leadership skills while preparing them for future roles on ASRC s Board of Directors or on other boards in the community. To maintain eligibility, students must meet regular program requirements while working a maximum of 20 hours per week during the school year. These requirements include enrollment in at least nine credits per semester and a minimum of 2.0 GPA. During the summer and on regularly scheduled school breaks, interns may work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Overtime is prohibited and vacation pay or paid time off is not allowed. Upon degree completion, interns become eligible for permanent placement within the ASRC family of companies.
AES Craft Training and Apprenticeship Program AES is a designated Training Program Sponsor and Assessment Center by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and recognized as a U.S. Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program Sponsor. We use NCCER materials and training programs to give ASRC Shareholders and other qualified Alaska applicants living in Anchorage expanded career opportunities and skills training in the construction trade. Trade areas include: Electrical Carpentry Heavy Equipment Operation Instrumentation Insulation Mobile Crane Operation Painting Pipefitting Project Management Rigging Scaffolding Welding Gas Pipeline Operation Liquid Control Center and Field Operation Pipeline Electrical Instrumentation Pipeline Mechanical, Maintenance, and Corrosion Certified subject matter experts and instructors from AES teach classes during evening hours. Each program begins with a core class called Introduction to Craft Skills that must be completed prior to the start of craft specific training. Students then apply for admission to the apprenticeship portion of the program, allowing them to reach Journey-level status within their craft while working for AES. Admission evaluations are based on the student s demonstrated commitment to safety and their performance shown throughout the core class.
Nutaaq (New Learner) Program AES has expanded on-the-job training opportunities for ASRC Shareholders on the North Slope with its Nutaaq Program. Participants are hired for entry-level craft positions on the North Slope such as roustabouts, laborers, pipefitters, administration, and light duty mechanics. This learn-by-doing program allows Shareholders to receive a salary, benefits, and valuable North Slope field experience while under the mentorship of a successful, seasoned AES coworker, lead, or supervisor. Participant evaluations are based on performance, progress, training needs, and certification criteria matches. To participate, Shareholders must meet the following requirements: High School diploma or GED equivalent Possess a valid Driver s license Pass the mandatory drug and alcohol UA examination Six month concurrent enrollment in the AES Craft Training and Apprenticeship Program ASRC Energy Services Shareholder Programs About the Program: The Nutaaq Program allows Shareholders the opportunity to build the fundamentals of a craft they can carry on to the future. It allows a place for Shareholders to start employment within their Corporation at an entry level position that allows Shareholders to build work experience and knowledge in a community environment. These jobs allow Shareholders to gain a relationship with their corporation and become familiar with life on the slope, where a majority of AES employment resides. Training through NCCER includes: Pipefitting Heavy Equipment Operating Electrical Scaffolding Pipeline Maintenance Goals of the Program: The Nutaaq Program aims to produce qualified Shareholder employees. It s the goal of the Program to increase learning power, leadership, and development opportunities to create a pathway for future career choices. Program participants are introduced and assigned to a wide-range of potential careers and various skills that will enable them to be successful now and later in future job opportunities. Taking pride in our heritage, having confidence in the future, and always working to the highest standards of quality and safety. Requirements: Evaluation based on performance, progress, training needs, and certification criteria matches Pass the mandatory drug and alcohol UA examination Have acquired a High School diploma or GED equivalent, and Possess a valid Alaska drivers license Individuals will be required to enroll in the AES Craft Training and Apprenticeship Program, National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) For more information, contact: Jason Christensen jchristensen@asrcenergy.com
Paid Jobs Program and Jobs Readiness Training During peak hiring periods, AES conducts job readiness training through Ilisagvik College and Northern Industrial Training to teach prospective applicants about camp work environments, drug and alcohol testing requirements, and basic work skills necessary for lower-level jobs at various client worksites on the North Slope. Shareholders who have participated in this training have higher success rates and better safety records with AES. Shareholders who have successfully performed in entry-level positions in the field are eligible to participate in the paid jobs training program. Shareholders attend eight to ten week training courses in Anchorage that prepare them for jobs as pipefitters, welders, operators, carpenters, scaffold builders, and roustabouts. AES provides a salary, room and board, and travel expenses to and from the training site. More than 90 percent of Shareholders who participate in this training join AES following graduation.
