2 A Step to Apprenticeship The NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center (NIETC) is seeking qualified candidates to participate in a free five-day Material Handling class. What: Five 8-hour day classes at the NIETC Learn about working on a construction site Become certified in OSHA 10, CPR and First Aid Become certified in the operation of forklifts Become familiar with the common tools and materials used by electricians Get a sneak peak into the industry, so that you can make an informed decision as to whether or not you would like to pursue a career as an electrical worker Receive one on one guidance to prepare yourself for applying for a NIETC apprenticeship Become familiar with the various ways to apply competitively for a Material Handler job Why: The NIETC is committed to diversifying its workforce to reflect the communities in which we live and work. The certifications that this opportunity will provide will improve your chances of gaining employment as a Material Handler. Having Material Handling experience will make your application to our formal electrical apprenticeship program stand out. Prior work experience in the trade and knowledge of the tools and materials that electricians use are valuable assets that many people who apply for apprenticeship do not have. When: Class: March 26-30, 2012, 7:30am - 4pm NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center NE Airport Way, Portland Prerequisites: At least 18 years of age A valid driver s license and clean Motor Vehicle Record for the past 3 years A commitment to 100% attendance during Basic Skills class and internship Meet the minimum educational requirements Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests Minimum Educational Requirements: HS diploma - minimum 2.0 GPA OR GED - minimum score of 2550 One year of HS Algebra with a C or better Required Documentation: HS transcript or GED certificate that shows your completion date and GPA/GED score, as well as proof that you meet the math requirement Photocopy of your driver s license Copy of your Motor Vehicle Record for the past 36 months (available at the DMV)! If you do not meet the minimum educational requirements, but your GPA is at least 1.8 or your GED score is at least 2250, please submit a written statement outlining your plan to achieve these requirements within six months after the program s completion. This statement must be signed by a career or school counselor who is working with you to meet these goals.
