1 Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Houston Community College The Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Houston Community College (HCC) offers students the opportunity to apply directly to the engineering academy and upon acceptance co-enroll at HCC and Texas A&M University. This unique opportunity allows talented students, interested in pursuing a Texas A&M engineering degree, an opportunity to take the same engineering courses offered to freshman Texas A&M engineering students. The ability to start taking these courses starting the very first semester in the Academy, allows students to progress through their engineering courses at the same time as their Texas A&M college station engineering peers do. Students who successfully complete the Academy by the first Summer term following their second year with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5 at both institutions, as calculated by Texas A&M, will be automatically admitted into Texas A&M College Station (TAMU-CS) for the following Fall term. Students can then apply for a change of curriculum into a degree granting major in or outside of the Look College. Benefits Benefits of the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Houston Community College include: Being a Texas A&M Engineering student admitted to a co-enrollment program Academy students at HCC are able to remain on the HCC campus while taking core curriculum courses (math, science, history, government, English, etc.) through HCC, and engineering courses through Texas A&M and taught by Dwight Look College of Engineering faculty. Smaller student-faculty ratios in courses fundamental to engineering (math, science) and in core curriculum courses Co-enrollment at both Texas A&M and HCC provides students the opportunity to participate in student activities and organizations at both institutions to the fullest extent possible. Saving up to $1,500 per semester for students taking fifteen credit hours. Savings is based on the number of credit hours a student takes at HCC vs. credit hours taken with Texas A&M. An option to apply for early entry into an engineering degree-granting major (Aero, Biomedical, Nuclear, Mechanical, etc.) at Texas A&M upon meeting the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and minimum course requirements. Guaranteed full admission to Texas A&M University upon timely completion of all program requirements (CGPA and course requirements).

Engineering Academy students gain an academic advantage by participating in the program and successfully completing all program requirements. Terms and Conditions Eligibility The Engineering Academy is for first-time full-time students and continuing students that have achieved a High School diploma or equivalent and are pre-calculus or calculus ready. First-time full-time students apply directly to the HCC campus via the ApplyTexas application. Continuing college students who are pre-calculus or calculus ready (having completed MATH 1316, scored at least a 25 on the ACT, a on the MPE or an in the Texas A&M placement exam for TEAM/TEAB students) are eligible to apply. Academy Requirements Academy students must enroll in a minimum of 12 total credit hours each fall and spring semester. The twelve credit hours each semester must consist of at least 2-4 credit hours of engineering specific courses offered through Texas A&M-College Station and taught by Dwight Look College of Engineering faculty on the HCC campus. The remaining credit hours will be offered through HCC. Exceptions to these guidelines will be approved only under extenuating circumstances. Academy students will not be given priority registration privileges by virtue of their participation in the Academy, however they will be placed in cohort sections (math, science, and engineering) their first academic year to enhance their academic success. Academy students may enroll in a total of six Texas A&M credit hours during the summer and a total of six HCC credit hours per summer term. Exceptions to these guidelines will be approved only under extenuating circumstances. Academy students who drop or withdraw from their Texas A&M engineering course offered on the HCC campus and fall below one credit hour will be withdrawn from Texas A&M for that semester, thus forfeiting all Texas A&M student privileges for the remainder of the term (i.e. use of campus facilities, residence halls, sports tickets, etc.). Unless otherwise prohibited, this student may continue in the Academy the subsequent semester.

3 Academy students must plan their course schedule to ensure completion of the Academy in a timely manner, as required under the Timely Completion section. Academy students must apply (upon eligibility) for reverse transfer to receive their Associate Degree from HCC. Math Placement Exam (MPE) and Math Requirements Academy participants will be required to take the HCC MPE. After acceptance into the Academy and at the discretion of the Academy administrators, participants may be required to take the Texas A&M MPE. HCC MPE score will be used to place participants in the appropriate math course. Academy participants must be pre-calculus or calculus ready. Academy participants must complete either of the following requirements at HCC prior to beginning full-time enrollment in an engineering major at Texas A&M: complete their calculus sequence (Calculus I, II, and III) or complete the required math for the engineering major of interest, Grade and Credit Requirements Courses taken at HCC must be appropriate for the student s preferred major at Texas A&M. Other courses may not be counted toward meeting the minimum required hours. Any transferable credits earned through institutions other than HCC or Texas A&M prior to entry into the Academy will count toward the HCC credit requirement only. Grades received for these credits will not count toward the HCC GPA requirement. Once a student has entered the Academy, all credits must be earned at Texas A&M and HCC, if they are to be used to satisfy Academy completion requirements. Any Credit by Examination received through Texas A&M before the start of the Academy will count toward HCC s credit requirement. GPA Calculation A GPA will be calculated as per Texas A&M GPA student rule and 10.22, which state the following: The hours for which a student receives a grade of satisfactory shall not be included in the computation of the student s semester or cumulative grade point ratio; a grade of unsatisfactory shall be included in the computation of the student s grade points per credit hour as an F. A grade of satisfactory will be given only for grades of C and above; a grade of unsatisfactory will be given for grades D and F.

4 10.22 A student repeating a course completed at Texas A&M University in which a grade of B or better has been earned will not receive grade points for the repeated course, unless the catalog states the course may be repeated for credit. Program Completion Students participating in the Academy must satisfactorily complete the requirements within a period that begins with the fall semester of the year of admission to the Academy, and ends with the completion of the first summer session following the second year of enrollment in the Academy. Students must make appropriate progress on passed hours and GPA to remain in the Academy. Successful and timely completion of the Academy requires that participants have a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on at least 50 hours of transferable work from HCC and a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on at least 10 credit hours of engineering specific courses from TAMU-CS (TAMU courses offered on the HCC campus). At least 10 credit hours offered by TAMU-CS, must be in three or four credit-hour courses that satisfy Texas A&M core curriculum or degree requirements (exceptions include ENGR 111 and ENGR 112, which are 2 credit hour courses). Removal from Academy A student removed from the Academy for either academic or disciplinary reasons will not be permitted continued enrollment nor guaranteed admission to Texas; continued enrollment at HCC will be at the discretion of the partner institution officials. Pathways to full admission into a degree granting major in the Look College Early Matriculation: An option for early matriculation into an engineering degree granting major is available for Academy students provided the following three requirements are met: 1) Academy students have earned a 3.5 Cumulative Grade Point Average at HCC and TAMU-CS, as calculated by TAMU-CS. 2) Academy students have completed a minimum of o one required calculus, o one required science, and o one required engineering course. 3) Academy students will complete the calculus sequence required for the admitted major prior to the semester of full enrollment. Transfer Admission: Engineering Academy students who elect to apply to transfer to TAMU-CS and who do not complete the Academy will be considered for admission on the same basis as all other transfer students including application fees.

5 Program Completion: Students who successfully complete the Academy by the first summer term following their second year with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 at both institutions, as calculated by Texas A&M University, will be automatically admitted to TAMU-CS for the following fall term. These students can then apply for a change of curriculum into a degree granting major in the Look College. If a student fails to gain admission into their engineering major of choice, Academy advisors will help the student identify another major in or outside of engineering. Students who do not successfully complete the Academy requirements or gain transfer admission by the end of the first summer term following their second year, will not be able to continue their enrollment at TAMU, but may be eligible for admission as a returning student after the next fall semester (subject to current readmission criteria). Securing Your Admission First-time, full-time students applying for admission into the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at HCC will complete the ApplyTexas application for HCC, an HCC Engineering Academy application and an Engineering Academy at HCC supplemental application provided by TAMU-CS. Continuing students at HCC who wish to participate in the Academy will complete an HCC Engineering Academy application and an Engineering Academy at HCC supplemental application provided by TAMU-CS. HCC will select pre-calculus or calculus ready students from their applicant pool who are interested in pursuing an engineering degree through this co-enrollment Academy. This applicant pool can consist of both first-time and continuing college students. HCC will send a list of eligible candidates to the TAMU Admissions office for a holistic review and a final admission decision. Successful candidates will receive an admission offer to the Engineering Academy at HCC and will be advised on how to accept the offer and register for courses. Financial Aid, Fees and Deadlines Academy students will apply for financial aid with HCC listed as their attending institution. As a co-enrolled students the combination of both campus credit hours can qualify an Academy student as full time. All Academy students who meet Academy requirements to transfer to Texas A&M to a full time student status will not be required to pay an additional application fee for transfer.

6 Engineering Academy students who elect to apply to transfer to Texas A&M and who do not complete the Academy will be considered for admission on the same basis as all other transfer students including application fees. Academy students will be required to pay the respective tuition and fees separately at both institutions, pro-rated as appropriate based on the semester credit hours enrolled at each institution, by the established deadlines. Academy students will be considered in-absentia at Texas A&M University and therefore not subject to the recreation sports fee, the health center fee, and the student center complex fee.
