1 Associate of Applied Science Information Technology Networking Option to Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications Systems Management Program Description: The Telecommunications industry provides the architectural structure for the new economy, including the backbone for electronic commerce, teleconferencing, telemedicine, telephony, and electronic data exchange. This backbone consists of fiber optics, wireless and broadband technology used to link computer systems and networks. The industry is faced with a limited workforce to meet the expanding challenges. In order to meet this need Murray State University chose to develop Telecommunications Systems Management as a Program of Distinction. Three academic degree programs anchor telecommunications at Murray State: the Associate Degree, Baccalaureate Degree and Masters Degree. All three programs prepare students for rewarding careers in the dynamic high tech telecommunications industry. Telecommunications Systems education and regional economic development are further enhanced through the program s continuing education efforts, professional conferences and seminars, the research and grant work of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research. All of these efforts have resulted in remarkable progress toward national distinction. The program is the result of a partnership between the College of Business and Public Affairs, the College of Science, Engineering and Technology and the Center for Telecommunications Systems Management. The academic programs are truly interdisciplinary combining the areas of technology and business by involving nine separate departments. Enrollment growth in the program is a testimony to its success. With current enrollment of over 200 students, this Program of Distinction is already making its mark. The program has been marketed and promoted nationwide. The Center has developed the largest known website for telecommunications links in the world. Receiving over 20,000 hits per month, exroads.com has provided national and international recognition for the program. In addition, the university has received so many queries about the unique interdisciplinary nature of the TSM program that other colleges and universities are considering using portions of the Murray State program as their model. Program Length: Active students may proceed at their own pace, taking as many or as few courses as they can handle. For more information, contact: Murray State University TSM Advisor How to apply for admission to the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and Murray State University: The Kentucky Community and Technical System: This associate to bachelor s degree is offered by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and Murray State University. During completion of the associate degree, a KCTCS college must be designated as your Home College. Even though the classes will be delivered by different KCTCS colleges, only the Home College will admit you and take care of all of your student service needs including advising, library services, billing, financial aid, etc. You may register for classes online at the Kentucky Virtual University (KYVU) or directly at your Home College. If requesting through KYVU, your request for classes will go to the college you designate as Home College, and the Registrar at the Home College will enroll you for courses once all admission requirements have been met. The entire associate to bachelor s degree may be completed online. Students will apply to KCTCS for the associate program will apply for admissions to Murray State University to complete the bachelor requirements. Murray State University: Admission to Murray State University is based on academic performance. A minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale is required (please see additional Business Administration Admission Requirements below). Transfer credit only will be awarded if the student attended a regionally accredited (as recognized by Murray State) institution of higher education. 3 New transfer students fill out an admission application form and return it to Admissions Services Office, Murray State University, P.O. Box 9, Murray, KY , along with a $25 check for the application fee payable to Murray State University. The application fee is nonrefundable. Please call to request an admission application or you can download and print the application from Official transcripts must be mailed to Murray State University directly from all institutions attended. Transfer students who have earned fewer than 24 semester hours of degree credit, also must have an official copy of their high school transcript mailed directly from that school, and must request an official ACT score report. And at least 20 of the last 32 semester hours required for graduation must be earned at Murray State University (may be completed online).
