oncept: 3D Fabrics with ir Pockets Description: Developing furnishings (i.e. curtains / quilts) & clothing with sealed air pockets and 3D surface textures to reduce heat loss. Pressurising the air pockets could cause them to burst. Product would lose functionality. Use quick sketch modelling to explore stronger seals. pply pressure and observe the strength of the air pocket. Sealing air pockets against the backing fabric substantially increase the seal s strength. Quick sketch model Single layers of air pockets may give the furnishing a bumpy shape / form. (I.e. The fabric is raised over the air pockets with dips at each seal.) Will not meet the aesthetic needs of the consumer. Experiment with multiple layers of air pockets in order to achieve a consisted surface level. Observe how multiple layers affects the aesthetics / form of the product. Staggering two layers of air pockets together can achieve a consistent surface level. Quick sketch model Klymit Ulaar Jacket has been developed This product is essentially the materialised version of this concept. The concept would have to be developed into furnishings rather than competition to avoid major competition. onsider this issue in the next short- listing process. This issue reduces the opportunity for this concept. Other ideas were much stronger and unique; therefore this concept will not be taken forward. ickstarter.com /projects/ /ulaar- jacket
oncept: Heat ands Description: pplying heat to areas of high circulation, i.e. extremities such as wrists and ankles. Niche market. sk user group for their Heat ands, opinion Is there a market for such a product? sk user group on this concept. Users think the concept is good in theory but the aging population are unlikely to wear devices on both wrists and ankles.
oncept: Element (Modernised Hot Water ottle) Description: Re- inventing & re- stylising the hot water bottle, replacing the scolding hot water with alternative power sources. The thermocrystic compound solidifies after crystallisation. Product becomes rock solid. Not suitable for use in bed, on the sofa etc. Explore other power sources, i.e. an electric element. Two participants agree that they have burnt themselves with scolding hot water. They think the electric power source would be useful, but would want the product to give clear feedback on when the product is ready to use. Thermocrystic neck warmer The product doesn t give clear feedback regarding when it is ready to use. ffects product usability. Develop a clear feedback system. Element, User The rubber surrounding the dial obstructs the users fingers. The products temperature control could malfunction Difficult / awkward use of the dial urns / physiological damage Develop cut outs on the rubberneck to allow the user to access the dial. Similar to the concept of a fuse, the power must be cut if the temperature elevates past a certain point Test to see whether the problem still exists. ut outs reduce the problem however the power source has been changed and no funnelling neck is needed, remove it all together. Heat ottle, Development & quick sketch models Element, User
oncept: Heated Slippers Description: Slippers with heated elements to apply warmth to the users lower extremities. It s the entire Ideation selling point of book, Heated the product Slippers Test How effective is the concept of applying heat to the users feet / extremities. Exposing cold feet to an instant change in temperature caused a burning sensation. May have physiological impacts in the users feet. Test: pply heat to participant s feet and observe the participants change in temperature. Develop the product to adjust its heat output to the users body temperature. This will prevent an instant change in the extremities temperature. Submerse feet in a bucket of warm water for 10 minutes and describe any change in overall temperature. N/ - This would be part of development. The test was carried out in a cool room and I, myself stood in the bowl of water. There was a noticeable change, after 10 minutes applying heat to the entire foot made me feel warmer than my siblings under floor heating. N/ - This would be part of development. Ideation book, Heated Slippers Test
oncept: Smart / Thermo and Description: Wearable technology that automatically adjusts household temperature to efficiently maintain the users body temperature at 37 Would Remove feature. N/ N/ Thermal increase Wristband, development oncept costs / RRP. Sketch You would have to install an entirely new heating system to control individual room temperatures from one thermostat. Watch faces are subjective to the users personal taste. Placing buttons on the wearable device may confuse the user. The product may malfunction, leaving the user without control of their household temperature. User may refuse to purchase / wear the product on these grounds. The user may not trust themselves with the product in fear of pressing the wrong button. Prosecution / fines sk user group for their opinion, if correlated with the issue then remove this feature. Develop the smart band to only display information, transfer all manual control to the thermostat. Thermostat must provide the option for manual temperature control.. on the concept Remove feature Users agree that simplifying the interface would make them feel more comfortable with wearing it.
