87 Professor Dr. Muhammad Arshad has more than 33 years experience of teaching and research. As Soil Environmental Microbiologist, his major focus of research is the development of biofertilizers for sustainable agricultural production. He is one of the pioneers who introduced the concept of utilizing microbially produced plant growth regulators for the betterment of crop production. Dr. Arshad is also endeavoring in crucial problem of pollution generating due to agrochemicals. He has developed an effective bioremediation biotechnology for the pesticides-polluted and azodyes-plouted soil and water environments. He also developed an innovative technology of solid waste management through its biological conversion into effective organic fertilizers and biofertilizers and value-addition with biologically active substances and beneficial bacteria. He has also developed novel biofertilizers by using bacterial ACCdeaminase biotechnology to improve the yield of crops. Dr. Arshad is an author/co-author of Four books and 9 book chapters published abroad. Besides contribution of more than 200 research papers/proceedings/technical reports/abstracts at national level, Dr. Arshad has published more than 100 research articles in foreign refereed impact factor journals which earned for him an impact factor of over 200 and more than 800 citations. He has participated in 104 international and national conferences and in some of them as a speaker. He is working as reviewer/referee for some international journals. Professor Arshad successfully produced 17 PhD. scholars as major supervisor. He has acted as Principal Investigator of 12 research projects funded by Asian Development Bank, Ministry of Science & Technology, PARC-ALP, PARB, Pakistan Science Foundation and Higher Education Commission. As a reward of his significant contributions in the field of Agriculture, Dr. Arshad has been declared Best Scientist in Agriculture for the Year 2001 by the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Islamabad and he received Best University Teachers Award for the Year 2003 from Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. In recognition of outstanding performance in education and research, Dr. Arshad has been decorated with National Civil Award Tamgha-i-Imtiaz 2005 by the President of Pakistan. He has also been awarded best performance shield by the President of Pakistan on the eve of Centennial Celebrations of the University. Soil Science Society of Pakistan has honored Dr. Arshad with the title of Fellow Soil Science Society of Pakistan in In recognition of his services in agricultural sciences at international level, he has recently won for the first time in Pakistan, TWAS Prize in Agricultural Sciences for He is a regular recipient of Research Productivity Allowance (in response to his high Impact Factor) from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan, since the initiation of this prestigious program. He is among the top scientists in the field of Agriculture as evaluated by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology. 93 Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Zafar, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, has earned his Master degrees from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and University of London, UK. He has completed his doctorate in three years from the University of Exeter, UK. Dr. Zafar is a Commonwealth Research Fellow and attained post-doctoral training from the University of Nottingham, UK and University of New England, Armidale, Austraila. Professor Zafar is a pioneer in producing the PhD Scholar in the discipline of Rural Sociology in During the year , 12 PhD scholars as major supervisor and ten as member earned their degrees under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Zafar who have worked in the areas population and health, HIV/AIDS, cultural values, ageing, impact assessment of development programs, adolescent and youth personality problems. Keeping in view teaching and research achievements, the Higher Education commission included his name in the list approved supervisors. Dr. Zafar has been awarded better incentive for the year 2006, 2007 and 2008 on basis of his academic and research excellence. Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Zafar has supervised more than 250 students in the discipline of M Sc (Rural Sociology) and M Sc(Population Sciences). He has 150 research articles published in journals of National and International repute and twelve review articles appeared in different National Newspapers about social problems. A book on Cultural Dynamics, Social Change and Modernization is also in his credit. Professor Zafar is presently executing a research project on documenting and mitigating the impact of pesticides and heavy metal residues on vegetables funded by Punjab Agriculture Research Board. Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Zafar with his PhD scholars developed Theories and Models to address socio-cultural problems. These innovations help in understanding the demographic transition, health status and social change and development in Pakistan, which is prime objective of Government of Pakistan for attaining sustainable socioeconomic development and poverty reduction. Dr. Zafar is also pioneer in supervising doctoral level research on HIV/AIDS in Pakistan. 99 Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal is the Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology. He got his B Sc Agricultural Engineering with distinction (Silver medal) in He won Canadian Scholarship and completed M. Engg degree (Agri. Systems Engineering and Management) from AIT, Bangkok in He worked as a lecturer in the department of Basic Engineering from January 1, 1979 to Aug 24, 1980 and was selected as a Lecturer to work at Abu Naama College of Agriculture, Abu Naama, Sudan and worked over there for one year. After one year of service in Sudan he was selected as a Project Manager/Project Engineer at the Al-Hussaini Establishment for Agriculture at Ussir Usaila, Riadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. From Oct. 25, 1981 June 17, 1987, he mechanized Agriculture farm of 500 hectare for producing wheat, vegetables and fodder crops.he designed and installed 450 Center Pivot Irrigation Systems at Al-Hussaini Establishment farm and other private farms in Unaiza, Durma, and Al-Ras. He also designed and installed 50 grain storage structures of 50 to 1000 ton capacity at Al-Hussaini Establishment farm and other private farms in Unaiza, Durma, and Al-Ras. Moreover, he designed and installed drip irrigation system for producing citrus and grapes. In 1987, he rejoined the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad as Assistant Professor in the Department of Farm Machinery and Power. In January 1993, he won Central Overseas Training (COT) scholarship to study abroad for PhD studies. He completed his PhD in December 1995 from the Department of Agricultural & Bio Systems Engineering, Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames, Iowa, USA. In early 1996 he returned from USA and joined the Department of Farm Machinery and Power where he designed and developed three agricultural machines namely, zone disk tiller drill, improved boom sprayer, and university boom sprayer test bench and got them registered/patented from the Government of Pakistan in He was promoted as an Associate Professor in 1999 and Professor in He was appointed as the Chairman of the Department in He has been appointed as the Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology with additional duties of Principal Officer of generators and electric supply of the university and coordinator of University Biogas Center. 55

109 Prof. Dr. Laeeq Akbar Lodhi Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad-Pakistan has an excellent academic and research carrier, as evidenced by the meritorious awards bestowed upon him, membership of the professional societies, technical and selection committees both at national and international levels. He has nearly 30 years of teaching and research experience and has played a pivotal role in the advancement of Veterinary Medicine in general and Theriogenology in particular. Dr. Lodhi earned his DVM in 1975 from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan; MS in Theriogenology in 1982 and PhD in 1987 from University of Minnesota, USA. In 1981, Dr. Lodhi was awarded Graduate Fellowship Award for MS studies from The Rotary Foundation, Rotary International. During post-graduation, Dr. Lodhi received USA Colonial Dane Scholarship and Minnesota International Student Association Award in Dr. Lodhi joined as Veterinary Officer, Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Govt. of the Punjab in 1977; then served Pakistan Army, Remount Veterinary and Farms Corps from 1977 to He started his career as Lecturer in the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad in He was selected as Assistant Professor in 1987, Associate Professor in 1992 and Professor in 2001 in the Department of Theriogenology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. Dr. Lodhi also served the Departments of Forestry & Natural Resources and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from at University of Minnesota, USA. Dr. Lodhi remained Chairman, Department of Theriogenology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad for about 9 years. Besides other administrative assignments, Dr Lodhi served as Principal Officer, Estate Management; Member and Chairman Disciplinary Advisory Committee; Member, Affiliation Committee; Advisor/Coordinator, Engineering construction Department, Planning & Development; and Principal Officer, Electrical & Mechanical, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Dr. Lodhi has supervised 6 PhD and 14 M Sc(Hons) /M Phil students and published more than 80 research papers in journals of national / international repute.
