1 4 th Grade Book Recommendations Who Was Milton Hershey? By James Buckley, Jr. If you like biographies, then you will enjoy Who Was Milton Hershey? By James Buckley, Jr. Milton Hershey was the inventor of Hershey s chocolate. This book tells me how he did it. Did you know that the traveled all over the world, including Germany, to learn how to make chocolate? This is an interesting book. I can t wait to read it again! (Jed) Magic Tree House (series) by Mary Pope Osborne If you like adventurous books, you will love this series. There are two main characters eight year old Jack and seven year old Annie. They travel through time in a magic tree house in over fifty adventures. I really like the one about the Titanic. I love these books and I hope you will, too. (Josh) All of a Kind Family by Sydney Taylor If you like realistic fiction then you will enjoy All of a Kind Family by Sydney Taylor. The main characters are Ella, Henry, Sarah, Charolet, Girty and Charley. This book is about a Jewish Family that lives on the East Side of New York. It is exciting. (Lucy) The Wide Awake Princess by E.D. Baker If you like action, adventure, fantasy and romance then you will enjoy The Wide Awake Princess by E. D. Baker. The main character is 1
2 Annie. No magic can touch her. The problem is that the whole kingdom is asleep and will stay like that until Annie finds her sister s true love. This book is like Sleeping Beauty. (Devon) Bad Island by Doug Tennapel If you like adventure then you will enjoy Bad Island. The main character is Reese. The problem is that the family has to get off the bad island. This book is kind of a mystery book. If you like Bad Island then you will also enjoy Cardboard and Ghostopolis both by Doug Tennapel. (Will) Bud not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis If you like adventure then you will enjoy Bud not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. The main character is Bud. The problems are he can t find his parents, he misses the train with his friends, and very mean people are making him get trapped in. This book is wicked good. (Henry) The Island Series by Gordon Korman If you like realistic fiction then you will enjoy the Series Island by Gordon Korman. The main characters are Lyssa, Luke, JJ, Lan Charla and Ian. The problem is they are stranded on a deserted island with an atomic bomb, an old top secret US airbase and people trying to kill them. This series is great and you just want to keep reading. (Ben) 2
3 Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland If you like dragons, adventure and epic battles then you will enjoy Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland. The main characters are Clay, Sunny, Starlight, Glory and Tsunami. The problem is a war between dragon tribes to choose a Sandwing queen. This book is the perfect book for everyone! (Daniel) Dragon Breath by Ursul Vernon If you like adventure books then you will enjoy Dragon Breath by Ursul Vernon. The main characters are Danny and Wendle. This book is about a bunch of monsters that are like ninja frogs that attack Danny and Wendle. Wendle is a salamander and Danny is a dragon. This book is a really good reading level! (Max) The Bobbsey Twins by Laura Lee Hope If you like Cam Janson then you will enjoy The Bobbsey Twins by Laura Lee Hope. The main characters are two sets of twins. The problem in one of the books is they are missing a bull so they need to gather clues. This series is a very exciting mystery series. (Molly) Hank Zipzer: Niagara Falls Or Does It? By Henry Winkler If you like funny books, then I think you ll like Hank Zipzer. In the book, Hank is the main character. He does a lot of things with his best friends, Frankie Townsend and Ashley Wong. Along with his teacher, mean Miss Adolph, and the lying and spitting bully of the 3
4 century, Nick McElty, Hank gets into his share of trouble. Hank s favorite teacher is Mr. Rock, the music teacher. Will Hank survive the fourth grade? You ll have to find out by reading Niagara Falls Or Does It! (Duncan) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling Do you like magical books? Then better read this! The story takes place in Hogwarts, a school for wizarding arts. Themain character is Harry Potter. He lives under his aunt s and uncle s staircase. His mom and dad died when he was young. His best friends are Ron and Hermione. This just might be the book for you! (Lola) Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo Do you like unpredictable books? Then Flora and Ulysses is the book for you! It takes place on a small street. The main characters are Flora, a lonely girl, and a superhero squirrel. The problem is that Flora has to keep Ulysses secret. I love this book and you will, too! (Ana) Who Put That Hair in My Toothbrush? By Jerry Spinelli Have you ever read Who Put That Hair in My Toothbrush? If you have not, you re really missing out! It takes place in their house, at a lake, and at school. There are two main characters Megan and Greg. The book switches people so you can see both sides of the story. I really like it because they remind me of me and my sister sometimes. This is an awesome book! (Annie) Smile by Raina Telgemeier 4
5 If you like comics, then you will enjoy this book. The main character is Raina. The problem is that Raina lost her tooth and the other tooth went up into her gum. This book is very funny and wonderful. (Iris) Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl If you like science and technology, then you will enjoy Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. The main characters are Charlie, Mr. Wonka, the president, and Grandpa George. The problem is they get stuck in space. This book is very adventurous. (Nate) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling If you like excitement and adventure, then you will enjoy Harry Potter. The main characters are Harry Potter, Ron, and Hermione. The problem is Harry is forced to compete in a contest for his life. He will live or die This book is a happy and funny book. (Sammie) Terrors of the Deep by Deborah Lock If you like animals and mystery, you will enjoy this book. The main characters are Dom and Jake. The problem is Dom and Jake were exploring the ocean, and their oxygen ran out. This book is a good book for suspense. (Matt) The Odyssey by Mary Pope Osborne If you like adventure and Greek myths, then you will enjoy The Odyssey by Mary Pope Osborne. The main character is Odysseus, King 5
6 of Ithaca. The problem is he cannot get home because the gods are mad at him. This book is an exciting and awesome book to read. (Calum) Ready Freddy! By Abby Klein If you like funny books, then this book is for you! The main characters are Freddy, Jessie, and Robbie. The problem is Freddy is having nightmares, so Jessie and Robbie try to help him. This series is very fun. (Anika) The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner If you like mysteries, then you should read this series. The main characters are Henry, Benny, Jessie, and Violet. The problem is that they need to find a home. This book is an adventure book. (Sean) The Ballpark Mysteries Series by David A. Kelly If you like mystery books you would like The Ballpark Mysteries series by David A. Kelly. The main characters are Mike and Kate. The problem is that there are mysteries in different baseball parks. These books are awesome. (Jeremy) Million Dollar Arm by J.B. Bernstein If you like books about baseball, law, and/or India, then you will enjoy Million Dollar Arm by J.B. Bernstein. The main characters are J.B., Rinku, Singh, Denesh, and Paten. The problem is that J.B. says he 6
7 can find the next million dollar arm, but he finds out that the task is harder than he thought. This book is awesome!! (Mark) The Beast Quest series by Adam Blade If you like adventure and mystery, then you will enjoy the amazing places that are in the Beast Quest series by Adam Blade. The main character is a young boy named Tom. The problem is there s an evil wizard making evil monsters. This book is very good if you like adventure series. (Sam) The I Survived series by Lauren Tarshis If you like books about true stories, then you will enjoy the I Survived series. The main characters are people who survived. The problem is that something bad happens. These are good books to read. (Jake) The Puppy Place series by Ellen Miles If you like dogs, then you will enjoy the Puppy Place series by Ellen Miles. The main characters are Lizzie, Charles, Bean/Adam, and Buddy. The problem is they find homes for puppies. These books are the best books ever. (Mia) Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers 7

This book is an interesting and great book. (Hannah) The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan If you like Greek Mythology then you will enjoy The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The main character is Percy Jackson who is the son of Poseidon, the God of the Sea. Percy Jackson goes on an adventure to find Zeus s missing lightning bolt. This book is a great way to learn about the gods! (Sofie) Junie B Jones by Barbara Parks If you like funny books then you ll enjoy the Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park. The main character, Junie B. Jones is always getting in trouble at school. Her best friend May often starts the trouble. Each book in the series starts the same way. If you are looking to laugh, read about Junie B. Jones! (Martin) Bow Hunting by Ellen Frazel If you like cameo then you ll enjoy Bow Hunting by Ellen Frazel. This is a nonfiction book that teaches you about different types of bows and how to hunt game. You can learn about the different ways people hunt around the world. It is an adventurous book! The problem is that the Disney Villians, known as the Overtakers want make Disney World horrible. The Kingdom Keepers is a series of books so you can continue the adventure. The first one is a little mellow, but then it gets even better. (Johnnie) Stranded by Jeff Probst If you like cliff hangers and mysteries then you ll enjoy Stranded by Jeff Probst. It is a book about four kids who are used to relying on technology. They get stranded on an island without technology and only a few cans of food. Do you think they ll survive? Read this book and find out! (Sean) Clementine by Sara Pennypacker If you like funny books then you ll enjoy Clementine by Sara Pennypacker. The series is about a girl named Clementine who has very active imagination. The first book is my favorite because there is a funny disaster in the art room. Clementine is a good example of a loyal friend with self-confidence. If you have ever made mistakes, then you ll enjoy reading about Clementine. (Emma) M.W. Sullivan Series Reader: The TV World If you like funny books then you ll enjoy M.W. Sullivan Series Reader: The TV World. This is a series of books about Bert Brown who doesn t 9
