4 Invest NorthTyneside Business support The North Tyneside Business Forum - A One-Stop-Shop resource where business issues can be swiftly channelled in the right direction and addressed by the appropriate person or organisation. It can direct you to the most relevant networks, mentors and experts from the private, public and third sectors. The Forum also ensures that local businesses have a say in developments which affect the local economy. Through its links with North Tyneside Council, the Forum ensures business views are taken into account in the forward-planning processes of local and national government. 5 Business support NEPO - The North East Purchasing Organisation (NEPO) and its member authorities including North Tyneside Council and other public sector organisations use an e-tendering portal which allows all tender related documentation to be issued and received electronically. By registering on the portal you will be added to a global list of suppliers for NEPO and its member authorities. Once you have access to the portal you will be able to register your interest against advertised contract opportunities, receive tender/ quotation invitations and submit your response. It uses applied knowledge in science and engineering combined with state of the art facilities to enable clients to develop, prove, prototype and scale up the next generation of products and processes with minimal risk. The organisation provides assets and expertise so customers can demonstrate the process and prove it is feasible before investing substantial amounts of money in capital equipment and training. New products and processes can be proven; on paper, in the lab and in the plant before being manufactured at an industrial scale. 7 Business support NOF Energy - A business development organisation for the oil, gas, nuclear and off-shore renewable sectors in the UK. It offers a wide range of support services by supplying contacts, providing support and guidance, promoting businesses to a global audience and keeping members up-to-date with industry activities. This is the region s largest industrial sector and vital to the future of the regional economy. By creating a collaborative environment the cluster has created a more interactive and proactive business community, which has provided a more attractive environment for investors and helped raise the international profile resulting in a strong investment portfolio. The Business Acceleration for SMEs (BASME) project is funded by a Regional Growth Fund grant of 1.5 million to help grow regional SMEs by increasing their sales to the process industries. NEPIC is taking a unique approach to SME and cluster development in that this project uses a facilitated mentoring approach. Senior people from the regional process industries together with other sector experts are mentoring SMEs to help them grow within the process sector regionally, nationally and also via exports. Companies will also be able to access knowledge and skills from the UK Knowledge Base (Further and Higher Education Institutions or research organisations) for use in the strategic development of their business. Each partnership employs one or more high-calibre KTP Associates to work with the company for between one to three years depending on the requirements of the project. A KTP is part-funded by a grant from the Technology Strategy Board. A small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) would be expected to contribute about a third of the costs involved in the project. 8 Invest NorthTyneside Funding options Let s Grow and Regional Growth Fund (RGF) - Regional Growth Fund programmes are schemes run by local or national organisations which have been awarded Regional Growth Fund cash to offer grants and/or loans to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Over 800 million has been made available to SMEs through Regional Growth Fund programmes and over 2,700 SMEs have been successful in receiving a grant. In order to apply for funding, applicants need to prove that they will offer significant potential for long-term economic growth and create additional sustainable private sector jobs. Applicants must also prove that their project could not go ahead without RGF support. Private sector companies and public/private partnerships can bid, but proposals from the public sector alone will not be accepted. To find out more about local and national funds contact Sean Collier, Senior Manager for Business and Enterprise, on (0191) or North East Investment Fund - Businesses and developers are being invited to bid for a share of a multi-million pound fund aimed at helping the North East create new jobs and drive forward economic growth. The North Eastern Local Enterprise Partnership (NELEP) is seeking Expressions of Interest on behalf of projects for its North East Investment Fund. This includes 25m of Growing Places Fund (GPF) and 30m of Regional Growth Funds (RGF) available for investment in capital projects that will drive local economic growth. These two funding streams have been placed together within the North East Investment Fund and open to applications. The North East Investment Fund (NEIF) will operate as a loan fund to support development on a commercial rate basis to ensure compliance with EU State Aid regulations. Repaid funding will be used to support further investment in the future. The Fund welcomes all funding options, but will prioritise those that offer repayment or refinancing to ensure the long term sustainability of the Fund. 9 Funding options North East Microloan Fund This fund supports the creation of new enterprises and the growth of existing micro and small businesses across the region. It aims to stimulate the creation of new business and secure jobs in the North East. Loans of between 1,000 and 25,000, with the potential in exceptional cases to go to 50,000, are made to new and existing businesses - operating in eligible sectors - which are finding it difficult to secure mainstream finance. Loan support is targeted at key customer groups including disadvantaged individuals, sole traders, partnerships and third sector enterprises. To find out more call (0191) or visit for more details. Finance for Business North East The 142m Finance for Business programme (also known as JEREMIE) provides debt and equity finance from 1,000 to 1.25m to SMEs based in, or relocating to, the North East of England, with the aim of helping them to start up, develop or grow. 10 Invest NorthTyneside Request for feedback North East Growth Hub The North East Local Enterprise Partnership (NELEP) recently launched a Beta version of the new North East Growth Hub and is inviting local businesses to take part in shaping the next phase of its development. This version of the Growth Hub includes the first of the core functions and is ready for testing. These functions include the most comprehensive listing of business events happening in the North East, as well as news and updates from the North East business community. There is also a link to information on the range of business support and finance advice available in the North East LEP area, including local and national, public and private business support services. Once complete, the new digital Growth Hub will be the place where you will be able to access all the information you need to invest, prosper and grow in the region. With a strong focus on peer to peer support, it will provide direct access to relevant business support and enable companies to find the right services and finance required.
