Chapter 4 TakeOff Overview There are several methods to take off a job: Graphical View, On-Screen View, or Audit Trail View. The method you use will depend upon circumstances and your preferences. Graphical View TakeOff Graphical View TakeOff requires the use of a digitizer. AutoBid SheetMetal produces an on-screen image as you take off your drawing. This method also automatically generates fittings. This TakeOff method is much faster than using the Audit Trail View mode. This Guide focuses on using the Graphical View TakeOff method. Other types of TakeOff are covered in our training classes and in the online help and manuals. On-Screen View TakeOff On-Screen View TakeOff allows you to load your drawing directly into AutoBid SheetMetal and then take the drawing off using your mouse. This method also automatically generates fittings. A digitizer is not required to use this method of TakeOff. Audit Trail View TakeOff There are two types of Audit Trail View: Mouse and Digitized. Mouse: This allows you to use a personal computer and a mouse to take off drawings and material lists. You select the items to take off from a list or use menu shortcuts. The lengths of duct are entered manually. Digitized: This type of TakeOff requires the use of a digitizer. Lengths of duct are automatically calculated using a scaled drawing. AutoBid SheetMetal JumpStart Guide 39

TakeOff Overview Overview You also have access to a TouchMenu on the digitizer to quickly select TakeOff items. In TakeOff, when the appropriate System is selected, default Specification Schedules, Insulation, Liner, and so on are also selected. You have the opportunity to change the selected defaults while in TakeOff. Based on the selections made, AutoBid SheetMetal determines the appropriate data to use; for example: hangers, types of flex connectors and turning vanes. The Construction Standards are determined based on the System and pressure class you choose in TakeOff. This removes much of the guesswork to eliminate mistakes during TakeOff. HINT The instructions in this chapter assume that you have already attached and configured your digitizer. If this is not the case, see the Hardware Setup chapter in the Installation manual. This manual is provided in hard copy and is also available in the online manuals. 40 AutoBid SheetMetal JumpStart Guide

Chapter 5 Graphical View TakeOff Using the project created earlier in this guide, the following procedures walk you through taking off a drawing. These exercises demonstrate the speed, ease and accuracy you can expect from the Graphical View TakeOff method. In this lesson you will take off items from a drawing. In Graphical View TakeOff, AutoBid SheetMetal automatically generates the fittings. This feature will save you a great deal of time in preparing your estimate. AutoBid SheetMetal JumpStart Guide 41

Graphical View TakeOff Practice Drawing Make a copy of the drawing included in Appendix D (page 77) and tape it to the digitizer. You can tape it anywhere inside the scribed corners that indicate the active area of the digitizer. Place your drawing on the digitizer within these marks. 42 AutoBid SheetMetal JumpStart Guide

Warnings Warnings detail items for which calculations have been completed; however, the accuracy of the calculation results is in question. Warnings should be examined to determine whether or not action is required. Errors Errors indicate that calculations could not be completed for an item. Errors are usually displayed due to missing information, such as undefined labor. If you receive an error message, you must locate the problem and correct the cause of the problem. Calculations cannot be completed until the error is resolved. Action Required All errors, warnings and hints should be investigated. Errors must be corrected along with warnings or hints that require action. Each warning or error provides details about why the message was generated. Read the message carefully, then go to the TakeOff Audit Trail to locate the specific item detailed in the message. Make the appropriate adjustments in TakeOff, or in AutoBid SheetMetal Global Data Administrator to correct the problem. Once this is done, calculations must be run again. 58 AutoBid SheetMetal JumpStart Guide

Reports Completion/General Information You have completed the calculations for the takeoff and are now ready to run reports. AutoBid SheetMetal offers additional features such as the Quote Manager, Subcontractors Worksheet and the G&A Costs Worksheet. For this exercise, these features will not be used. When you attend our training classes, detailed instructions are provided on using these features in conjunction with your bid. AutoBid SheetMetal JumpStart Guide 59

Reports Generate/Print Reports AutoBid SheetMetal provides several reports that allow you to analyze the data from TakeOff. For purposes of this exercise, only the Recaps Report will be generated. Recap Report The Recap Report includes all the details of your TakeOff including material and labor cost, weight of duct, quantities of items used and additional information. Because the Recap Report contains detailed information from Graphical View TakeOff, it is a lengthy report. 1. On the TakeOff & Reports tab, click Reports. The Report Manager: Graphical Bid window opens. 2. Click Full Recaps. 60 AutoBid SheetMetal JumpStart Guide

Reports 3. Make sure the Non-metric and Screen options are selected. 4. Choose Run. The Recap Report displays on-screen. Print Recaps Report You can review the data on-screen and then print the report for further review. 1. Click on the icon. OR Choose File > Print. 2. Close the Report Viewer by clicking on the in the upper right corner of the window. OR Choose File > Exit. Close all the report windows. Additional reports available within the estimating system will be covered in detail during the AutoBid SheetMetal resident class in our training facility. Conclusion You have now learned the basics of the AutoBid SheetMetal estimating system. Project Setup TakeOff Reports AutoBid SheetMetal JumpStart Guide 61
