( TO: All Dealer Principals, Service Managers, Parts Managers and Regional Managers INTENT: This bulletin provides part numbers for glass used in the cabs of NP and NS sweepers. Replacement glass may be ordered from FS Depot and will be shipped direct from the glass vendor. UNITS TO SERVICE: All Pelican NP and NS Sweepers. PROCEDURE: Follow all recommended safety practices when performing service work. Refer to Elgin Operator/Maintenance Manual for more information. A qualified Commercial Automotive Glass Installer should be engaged to perform replacement of the cab window glass. Instructions for replacement of the glass and sealing the edges is part of this bulletin (see pages 3-5). 3 Elgin Cab Window Replacement Instruction Scope: Instruction for field replacement of bonded glass using Sikaflex sealant and activator. Materials/Equipment: Rags/Cloths Used (type) ITW Dymon & Latex Gloves Primer/Activator UH-2 LUM Sealant Adhesive Sikaflex-295UV Glue Gun (type) Air or Manual Misc. Tools: Soft Flexible Plastic Spreader, Eye and face protection, sharp knife, single edge razor Working Temperature: 70 deg. F Min. Surface Preparation: Carefully remove damaged glass and adhesive residue from bond surface. Blow off seal surface to remove loose particulate material. Cab bond surface to be flat and free of excess adhesive residue when properly prepared for glass assembly. Wear safety protection for eyes and hands to prevent cuts, surface contamination of bond area, and to prevent eye injury. Clean both interior and exterior surfaces of glass with approved glass cleaner. Use latex gloves to minimize hand contact to bond line area, as finger oils will inhibit adhesion. The use of suction cups is highly recommended. Inspect glass and frit for defects. Optional Mask-off exterior perimeter of glass to minimize clean up. Quality tape should be used to reduce feathering of adhesive during removal process. Apply Sika Activator/Cleaner UH-2 LUM using a wipe-on/wipe-off method. Wipe on Sika Activator UH-2 LUM to both surfaces to be bonded (glass fretting and frame). Wipe in one direction only and turn applicator slowly at each corner to prevent re-contamination. Using a dry portion of the clean lint free cloth or towelette, and again wiping in one direction only, wipe-off excess Sika Activator ensuring a uniform thin film of adhesion promoter. Activator should cover solid printed area of fretting on glass and entire area on the frame exposed behind fretting. Do not wait more than 20 seconds to begin the wiping off of the UH2 LUM. Allow Sika Activator UH-2 LUM to dry 5 minutes. The adhesive application must occur within a two hour period or Sika Activator UH-2 LUM must be re-applied. Page 3 of 5

4 Glass Installation: Place one spacer in each of the four corners of the window flange. Then apply additional spacers to ensure a spacer exists for every 18 of bond line. Ensure placement of spacer will not fully disrupt the adhesive bond line. Accidental placement of the spacer within the adhesive could allow for a pinhole leak and water migration. Generally spacers are placed as follows. To minimize any potential leak path, spacers on the top and sides of the window should be placed toward the inside edge of the flange and bond line. This will ensure the outside of the adhesive bond is not disrupted and that exterior water shed will not find any pinhole leaks to the bond line. Similarly, spacers on the bottom of the window should be placed towards the outside edge of the glass and adhesive bond line. This will ensure that condensation on the inside of the window can not find any pinholes to the adhesive bond line. The spacer height should be 1/8 with a Shore A Spacer size can be as small as ¼ X ¼ to minimize the risk of disrupting the adhesive bond line. Use pre-shaped nozzle to extrude a single, continuous, uniform, triangular bead of SikaTack -Ultrafast; starting in the center of the bottom edge of the glass frit. Dimensions must be maintained at approximately 8mm wide, 10mm high triangular bead. Extrusion of continuous bead must be absolute when rounding corners. Monitor time, as placement of window into adhesive must occur within 10 minutes from initial extrusion. Carefully inspect adhesive bead for minimum height requirements and possible pinhole leaks. Low height of adhesive could restrict sufficient contact with glass. Breaks in continuous bead could lead to pinhole leaks and water migration. Place window into opening using one corner and one edge as guide. Press down firmly around window edge compressing adhesive DO NOT TAP OR HIT GLASS. Upon contact with spacer, cease force. Do not pound on glass during compression as isolated force may excessively compress adhesive causing pinhole leaks and water migration. Secure glass in position with tape. Apply enough pieces of tape to ensure glass will not shift for two hours. If any squeeze out appears around the edge of the glass, tool the adhesive flush with the glass edge. This will ensure an even, consistent bonding surface for the sealant. Allow adhesive to cure a minimum of 24 hours. Page 4 of 5

5 Apply Sealant: Trim any spacer that protrudes from the inside of the flange or the outside of the glass so that it will not interfere with sealant application. Additionally, remove any temporary spacers at this time. Fill the top edge of the bond with Sikaflex -295UV, taking care to avoid air entrapment. Overfill the seam area so that the sealant can be tooled to an approximate 45 angle between the top edge of the glass and the flange area. This will provide a good cosmetic edge as well as shed water. Remove tape from both glass and window opening immediately after tooling of adhesive is complete. Pull tape at a sharp angle to minimize feathering of tooled adhesive. Use caution during clean-up. Do not use alcohol, ammonia, or adhesive removers in this area, as chemical interactions could occur. Page 5 of 5
