1 New Braunfels ISD Career & Technical Education Pathways Alamo Academies N ew Braunfels ISD has participated in the Alamo Academies offered through Alamo Colleges for more than 10 years. Students have the opportunity to participate in either the Aerospace Academy, Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Academy (ATMA), Heavy Equipment Academy, or the Information Technology and Security Academy (ITSA). The Alamo Academies is a nationally-recognized Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-based instructional model operated by the Alamo Area Academies Inc., local industry, Alamo Colleges, area high schools and cities. The Academies provide students with tuition-free career pathways into STEM occupations that are in high demand in Texas. Academy Highlights Each Academy is a two-year program beginning in the junior year. Students earn up to 15 free college credit hours per year (at no personal cost) while also earning three high school Career and Technical Education elective credits. NBISD provides transportation services to all academy sites every day. Students begin their day taking dual credit and then return to the high school by third period to finish out the day. Students accepted into the Academy retain their UIL eligibility to participate in extra-curricular athletic or academic activities if desired. The Alamo Academies offer students an industry-paid internship in the summer between their junior and senior years. Students work eight weeks full time for a participating employer, earning around $3,000. Local industries have agreed to provide hiring preference to successful interns after graduation and the majority of industry partners have tuition reimbursement programs. Student Enrollment Checklist Step 1: Attend an informational assembly on in the New Braunfels High School Auditorium. Students must sign up ahead of time in the NBISD College and Career Center to be eligible to attend. The next assembly will be in January Step 2: Complete the one-page Alamo Academies application which is found on the website: Link to Apply Now. Step 3: Complete the ApplyTexas application at Once this is completed you will receive two s; one from ApplyTexas and one from Alamo Colleges.
