Students seem to prefer ESL 320, the program s noncredit oral communication class which emphasizes pronunciation FAID 332 Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) New Course (Non-credit) Proposed Discipline/FSA: Emergency Medical Technologies Justification: This course has been requested by local fire agencies to meet State Fire Marshal s office training requirements for entry level and volunteer fire fighters, and; To provide an alternative non-credit course for those students who do not require, or wish to receive, college credit FTWO 146 S-330 Strike Team/Task Force Leader All Risk New Course 1.5 Proposed Discipline/FSA: Fire Technology Justification: To provide a course that provides the training needs of agencies and departments who have jurisdiction over, and the responsibility to respond to all-risk incidents AS Degree in Health Information Technology New Program Proposal Program Description The Associate of Science in Health Information Technology program prepares students for a career working with health information in a variety of healthcare settings in diverse roles. Health Information Technology professionals perform the essential functions of acquiring, analyzing, maintaining and securing health information vital to providing quality patient care. Health Information Technology graduates are employed in hospitals, clinics, physician s offices, ambulatory care facilities, long term care facilities, home health agencies, consulting firms, and any organization that uses patient data or health information, such as pharmaceutical companies, law and insurance firms, and health product vendors. Upon program accreditation, graduates will be eligible to apply for writing the national examination for certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). The Health Information Technology program is designed to prepare students for entry into Shasta College s Health Information Management Baccalaureate Degree program. Upon completion of the Associate of Science in Health Information Technology, the student will be able to: Apply the knowledge and skills needed to perform HIM Associate Degree entry-level competencies as defined by the American Health Information Management Association s (AHIMA) Council for Excellence in Education (CEE). Apply the knowledge and skills needed to successfully pass the national Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam. Compete in the job market in the field of health information technology or enroll in an advanced degree program. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as an individual and collaboratively in a group to resolve health information challenges in a changing healthcare environment. Requirements: In addition to the required unit general education pattern for CSU or IGETC, students must complete the core courses listed below for the Associate of Science in Health Information Technology Degree. Students must also obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 with a grade of C or higher in all courses required for the major. A P (Pass) grade is not an acceptable grade for courses in this major.

Degree in HIT is justified in order to meet the requirement that baccalaureate degrees granted by California Community Colleges must follow the CSU GE pattern AA-T Geography New Program Proposal Program Description The Associate in Arts in Geography for Transfer degree (AA-T in Geography) presents students the opportunity to develop an understanding our complex world, and the skills needed to address challenges facing our planet and communities. Graduates in Geography are employed in a variety of career-paths including teaching, park management, and city and regional planning. The growth of geographic information systems (GIS) as an essential tool for the management, analysis and presentation of geographic data has created new opportunities for Geography graduates across a wide variety of organizations and industries.
5 Curriculum Committee Agenda for 10/5/15 Page 5 Statement of Program Goals and Objectives The Associate in Arts in Geography for Transfer degree (AA-T in Geography) will prepare students to transfer to Geography programs across the California State University system. As a wideranging discipline, graduates in Geography are employed in a variety of career-paths including teaching, park management, and city and regional planning. The growth of geographic information systems (GIS) as an essential tool for the management, analysis and presentation of geographic data has created new opportunities for Geography graduates across a wide variety of organizations and industries. Graduates of Shasta College s AA-T in Geography will have a solid foundation in the fundamentals of geographic study, in both physical and human geography, and will have experience in the application of geographic methods. Upon successful completion of the AA-T in Geography, students will be able to: Articulate the foundation of physical and human geography. Demonstrate knowledge of world regions, their characteristics and inter-connections. Apply spatial reasoning to address contemporary problems. Effectively use maps to interpret landscapes and measure essential geographic phenomena. Apply geospatial technologies, including geographic information systems (GIS), to organize data, answer geographic questions and create effective maps. Associate in Arts in Geography for Transfer Degree Requirements 1. Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that is eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following: A. The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education-Breadth Requirements. B. A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district. 2. Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0 with a grade of C or higher in all courses required for the major. 3.
