1 Florence Janody, Ph.D. Curriculum Vitae Present Position: PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR Domain of specialization: Cell biology, Development and Cancer Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) Nationality: French Rua da Quinta Grande, 6- Apartado 14 Birth date: 19/08/1970 P OEIRAS - Portugal Birth place: Ambilly, France Telephone: Fax: [email protected] Education Oct to Dec 1999 Ph.D. in Cell biology, Structural biology and Microbiology Université de la Méditerranée; France. Supervised by Dr. Nathalie Dostatni. Funded by the French government. Oct to July 1995 MSc in Cell biology, Structural biology and Microbiology Université de la Méditerranée; France. Supervised by Dr. Michele Delaage. Oct to July 1993 BSc in Developmental Biology. Université de Besancon; France. Research Since July 2006 Principal Investigator - Actin Dynamics Lab Research Fellowship from July 2006 to March Since April 2008: 5 years salary contract from the Portuguese government. Research Focus: In my lab, we are studying how signalling pathways regulate cytoskeletal organization in distinct epithelia and what is the role of specialized filamentous actin-based structures in transducing signalling pathways using the genetically tractable system Drosophila melanogaster. My project addresses a fundamental aspect of cell biology but also aims to broaden our understanding of pathogenesis associated with actin dynamics. Aug to May 2006 Research Associate - Group leaded by Dr. Michel Semeriva. Founded by the Association pour la Recherche sur le Cancer (ARC). Research Focus: I have analyzed the tissue-specific function of the two cytoskeletal genes Capping Protein and which regulate actin polymerization, in signalling pathways. May to July 2004 Research Associate - Group leaded by Dr. Jessica Treisman. Founded by the Association pour la Recherche sur le Cancer (ARC) and NIH RO1 EY and RO1 GM Research Focus: We carried out mosaic genetic screens in the differentiating Drosophila eye for novel genes involved in signalling pathways. We identified two unexpected categories of genes: Polycomb and Trithorax group genes, including skuld (skd) and kohtalo (kto) and actin cytoskeletal genes that I have characterized. Oct to April 2004 Ph.D. Student - Group leaded by Dr. Nathalie Dostatni. Founded by the French government. Research Focus: I used the early Drosophila embryo to understand how the signal transduction cascade of the Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (RTK) Torso can modify the activity of the Bicoid (Bcd) transcription factor and promote the development of the anterior region of the embryo. I have also participated in the development of two Internet databases, FlyNets and GIF-DB that focus on Drosophila melanogaster molecular interactions.
