1 PUBLIC NOTICE National and international applications are invited by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, for a period of 30 (thirty) working days from the day immediately following the publication of this notice in Diário da República for 1 (one) post of Associate Professor at this Faculty in the disciplinary area of Atomic and molecular physics, as foreseen in the teaching staff list of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, based in Campo Grande, Lisboa. This notice will also be published in the Public Employment Pool and on the websites of the FCT Portuguese National Funding Agency for Science, Research and Technology, of the Rectorate of the University of Lisbon and of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, as required by Article 62 A of the University Teaching Career Statutes, amended in Decree Law 205/2009, of August 31 st, subsequently amended by Law 8/2010, of May 13 th, hereinafter referred to as ECDU, and by Article 12 of the Regulations on Competitions for the Recruitment and Contracting of Teaching Staff for the University of Lisbon, approved by Order nr /2010, of September 16 th, amended and republished by Order nr /2012, of August 6 th. This notice follows the Order of Doutor António Cruz Serra, Rector of the University of Lisbon, and is dated December 27 th, 2013, in accordance with Article 9 of the aforementioned Statutes. In accordance with Articles 37 to 51 and 62 A of ECDU, the following requirements shall apply: I Admission requirements: Elligible candidates: 1) Holders of a PhD degree for more than five years counted as from the deadline for the submisson of applications, in compliance with Article 41 of the University Teaching Career Statutes (ECDU). 1.1) Holders of a PhD degree obtained abroad must demonstrate equivalence/recognition/registration of that degree and prove that it is equal to the one awarded by Portuguese universities. 1.2) Candidates who fail to meet the requirement specified in paragraph 1.1 will be admitted conditionally as determined by the Order referred to in Article 15 of the Regulations on Competitions for the Recruitment and Contracting of Teaching Staff for the University of Lisbon. Candidates who are admitted conditionally shall remain so until the selection panel meets to evaluate applications based on their relative merit. Candidates who, until the date set for the meeting of the selection panel, fail to submit the documents demonstrating that their requests for equivalence/recognition/registration of their degree have been accepted will be excluded. 1.3) The holders of a PhD degree obtained abroad whose diplomas do not mention the branch of knowledge or the doctoral specialty must submit a document where they are mentioned issued by the university that awarded their degree. 2) Good knowledge of the Portuguese language, both written and spoken.

2 2.1) Foreign candidates, except those from Portuguese speaking countries, must submit an officially recognized diploma that proves their knowledge of the Portuguese language, both written and spoken, or a diploma, certificate or attestation of their Portuguese communication skills based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe). 2.2) Candidates falling under the provisions specified in paragraph 2.1 that fail to meet this requirement will be admitted conditionally in the Order referred to in Article 15 of the Regulations on Competitions for the Recruitment and Contracting of Teaching Staff for the University of Lisbon. Candidates admitted conditionally shall remain so until the selection panel meets to evaluate applications based on their relative merit. Candidates who fail to submit the required diplomas or certificates until the date set for the meeting of the selection panel will be excluded. 3) Applications must include the following documents: a) Documents attesting the fulfilment of the requirements specified in this notice, in particular a certificate of the required degree and titles, as well as a certificate stating the years of service already completed; b) Twelve copies of the candidate s curriculum vitae, organised in accordance with the template set out in the Annexe to the Regulations on Competitions for the Recruitment and Contracting of Teaching Staff for the University of Lisbon; c) Two copies of works mentioned in the curriculum vitae (up to a maximum of five), selected by the candidates as the ones that best represent their activity so far; d) Twelve copies of the report addressing the contents, teaching methods and bibliographic references of a course in the disciplinary area as put up for tender, with particular focus on the specific domain mentioned in II. 3.1) Two copies of all the elements specified in paragraphs b) and d) of nr. 3) must be submitted in print. The remaining copies can be submitted in digital form (CD or DVD). 3.2) Candidates should mention the following information in their application: a) Full name and name adopted in bibliographic references; b) Parents names; c) Number and date of identity card or other identification document; d) Date and place of birth; e) Marital status; f) Occupation; g) Home address or contact address, including address and telephone number. 3.3) Candidates are not required to submit documents proving that they are suited for public employment. A declaration on honour written on the application or in a separate document containing information on each of the items listed below will be accepted: a) Nationality; b) Fulfillment of military or community service, when compulsory; c) No prohibitions from exercising public functions in general and the functions for which they apply in particular;

3 d) Having the necessary physical robustness and personal profile required to carry out their duties and having fulfilled the compulsory vaccination laws. 3.4) Applications, accompanied by the supporting documents referred to in the paragraphs above, must be submitted either personally at the office address of Núcleo de Expediente, Arquivo e Transportes during office hours (9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.), or sent by registered post with acknowledgement of receipt, before the deadline, to Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, Unidade de Recursos Humanos, Núcleo de Expediente, Arquivo e Transportes, Edifício C5, Campo Grande, Lisboa, Portugal. 4) Applications submitted by will not be accepted. 5) The curriculum vitae submitted by the candidates must be in accordance with the template set out in the Annexe to the Regulations on Competitions for the Recruitment and Contracting of Teaching Staff for the University of Lisbon. II Admission criteria based on absolute merit: Once all application formalities have been carried out in compliance with section I of this notice, candidates will be admitted based on absolute merit. All elligible candidates must hold a PhD degree in Physics, or in a related area, have a global curriculum that the selection panel considers to be of scientific value, the capacity to carry out research and previous teaching experience deemed compatible with the disciplinary area as put up for tender and appropriate to the corresponding teaching category, particularly in the specific domain of Atomic and molecular physics. Successful candidates are selected by an absolute majority of votes cast by the voting members of the selection panel through roll call vote. Abstentions shall not be allowed. III Selection and ranking criteria (relative merit): Once successful candidates selected on the basis of absolut merit have been identified, they will be ranked based on the selection criteria, on their weigths and on the final valuation system indicated below, under the terms established in nr. 6 of Article 50 of the ECDU and in Articles 9, 19 and 20 of the Regulations on Competitions for the Recruitment and Contracting of Teaching Staff for the University of Lisbon: A) Scientific performance based on the analysis of the works mentioned in the curriculum vitae, particularly those selected by candidates as the ones that best represent their contribution to the development and evolution of the disciplinary area as put up for tender, in the specific domain of Atomic and molecular physics; B) Pedagogical performance taking into account, when applicable, the analysis of previous teaching experience and contribution to improving the learning process of students; C) Other activities developed by candidates that are considered relevant to the mission of a higher education institution; D) The merit of the report addressing the contents, teaching methods and bibliographic references of a course.

4 The evaluation of the candidates curriculum in the context of the disciplinary area as put up for tender, particularly in the specific domain referred in II, with the purpose of ranking them, will be based on the weighted sum of the scores assigned to the evaluation criteria described below, using a scale of (where 0 is the minimum score and 100 is the maximum score). A. Scientific Performance (50%) 1. The academic training, including the degree of Habilitation (8%); 2. The quality and dissemination of research activity s results, including scientific production that has resulted either in books or in international scientific publications (32%); 3. The quality of projects and research contracts, including coordination and participation in research projects with external funding and integration into national and international networks of scientific research (2%); 4. Guidance of academic work, including supervision of master and doctor s theses, as well as post doctoral supervision, guidance of advanced training, in particular supervision of seminars, projects and internships (5%); 5. The transfer of knowledge, including the recognition and intervention by national and international scientific community and ability to promote scientific activity, namely: establishment and leadership of scientific teams; participation in international conferences (especially as an invited speaker) and in scientific or organizational committees meetings, seminars and scientific conferences; participation as an evaluator of publications in international journals, grant applications for research, advanced training programs or scientific projects, as well as scientific publications editor (2%); 6. The awards, scholarships and distinctions, including the awards and other scientific activities of exceptional character that have been allocated (1%). B. Pedagogical Performance (38%) 1. The teaching functions, including the publication of lectures and other teaching materials, including the teaching of courses, given the number and diversity of courses taught and the production of teaching materials to support the units taught including those available electronically, as well as the quality of the activities related to teaching, taking into account all relevant factors, namely the results based on extended collection of opinions (e.g. educational surveys), when available (29%) ; 2. The participation in teacher training (1%); 3. The participation in juries, including jury of doctoral and master s dissertations outside the institution, highlighting those in which was examiner (3%); 4. The congresses and conferences about teaching (1%); 5. The dedication and quality of professional activities related to teaching, including the creation of new courses or programs of study; renovation and update of existing projects, coordination or stimulation of educational projects, such as study programs or courses (4%).

5 C. Other activities (7%). Activities developed by candidates that are considered relevant to the University, namely: 1. The performance of academic duties and functions, including participation in university management entities; participation in selection boards; coordination of groups or research units, functional units of education or other equivalent positions (3%); 2. Activities of cultural extension and training activities for school public, whether students or teachers; participation in scientific projects or training that promote interaction with society; other activities with cultural, social or economic impact, namely disclosure of science and culture, contribution to social and human development and to the business world (1%); 3. Other activities deemed relevant for teaching and research, including community service within the institution, cooperation and advisory services to public institutions (1%); 4. Forming activities for public school (1%); 5. Participation in projects of social interest (0.5%) ; 6. Participation in projects and national and international organizations with scientific, professional or cultural interest (0.5 %). D. Report (5%) The evaluation will focus on the merit of the report addressing the contents, teaching methods and bibliographic references of the course in the disciplinary area as put up for tender and in the same specific domain. IV Final ranking: Each member of the selection panel draws up a list of candidates and ranks them in decreasing order of merit. The members of the selection panel cast their votes individually based on their own ranked list of candidates. The members of the selection panel vote for the 1st place, then for the second place, and so on, until the final ranking of all the candidates admitted to the tender and previously selected on the basis of absolute merit is complete. In each vote, the selection panel s decisions are made by an absolute majority of votes. Once the selection criteria have been applied, the selection panel prepares a final unitary ranking list of candidates. V Public hearings: Whenever necessary, the selection panel may decide to set up public hearings on equal terms for all the candidates.

6 VI Formal assessment of applications, notification and exclusion: 1. In compliance with article 16 of the Regulations on Competitions for the Recruitment and Contracting of Teaching Staff of the University of Lisbon, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon shall inform candidates within five working days that they have been admitted or not to the tender. Admission will depend on whether candidates have met or failed to meet all the requirements for admission. 2. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified of a Hearing of Interested Parties under the terms of article 100 of the Administrative Legal Procedures Law. 3. Candidates will be notified in one of the following ways: a) By with delivery notification receipt; b) By registered letter; c) By personal service. 4. The hearings are always done in writing. VII Submission of comments by the interested parties: In accordance with article 17 of the Regulations on Competitions for the Recruitment and Contracting of Teaching Staff of the University of Lisbon, all the interested parties can submit their comments within a period of ten working days counting from the date: a) Of the s delivery receipt, extended by a period of three days; b) Of registration of the letter, extended by a period of three days on account of distance; c) Of personal service. VIII Assessment of applications based on absolute merit, notification and exclusion: Unsuccessful candidates on absolute merit will be notified of the Hearing of Interested Parties in accordance with Section VII. IX Assessment of applications based on relative merit and notification of final draft ranking list of candidates: Candidates will be notified according to the procedures set out in Section VII in accordance with article 28 of the Regulations on Competitions for the Recruitment and Contracting of Teaching Staff for the University of Lisbon.
