2 To the north of the Okavango Delta lies the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, a 125,000 hectares area of pristine wilderness and Botswana s most least known wildlife area. Fed by the Kwando River, the Linyanti Swamp is the heart of the reserve and is the attraction for the tens of thousands of elephants, one of Africa s largest elephant populations, and other animals that concentrate during the dry season. Linyanti is an absolutely superb safari area, with dry gameviewing on a par with that of nearby Okavango. The Linyanti River and marshes are complemented by the contrasting dry woodlands inland. Lagoons and rivers abound with papyrus and phragmites grasses lining the shorelines. There are many varied habitats within the Linyanti, including marshes, waterways, riverine forests, dry woodlands and open grasslands thus maximizing the diversity of all kinds of animals. 3 MONDAY, AUGUST 22 Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe Today s highlight will be a morning tour of Victoria Falls. Designated a protected World Heritage Site, it is one of the few waterfalls in the world where one can witness up close the spectacular sight of over 550 million litres (145 million gallons) of water barreling down a 2/5 km (1.5 mile) wide precipice. The Victoria Falls are situated on the Zambezi River, which flows between Zimbabwe and Zambia, but Zimbabwe has always been the most popular access point. The force of the water sends a spray up into the air that can be seen from a 30 km (19 mile) distance. Due to its formation, excellent viewing of the Falls is possible from many angles, making for great photographic opportunities. An afternoon game drive will feature the amazing diversity of wildlife found on the shores of the Zambezi. After a warm day in the sun and the exhilaration of our game drive, a traditional Boma dinner, a delicious spread cooked on a big open fire under the stars, is the perfect end to our day. Chobe has some of the largest concentrations of game found on the Africa continent, including over 120,000 elephants. The park is surprisingly diverse, as it has the perennial Chobe River as its northern border, and it touches the Linyanti marshes to the west, is home to the well-known Savute Channel and connects with the Moremi Wildlife Reserve to the southwest. You will stay at the Chobe Game Lodge, the only property in the northern section of Chobe National Park. Located a mere 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of Victoria Falls, in the riverine woodlands of the Chobe National Park, the luxurious Chobe Game Lodge overlooks the perennial Chobe River and Caprivi floodplains. Chobe s wildlife is both abundant and diverse. It is home to possibly the largest concentration of elephant in Africa, and during the dry season, these herds along with large herds of buffalo, congregate along the fertile flood plains of the Chobe River. Kwara Camp is set overlooking a secluded lagoon in the northern Okavango Delta. This region offers a contrasting experience, as its location allows access to the permanent waterways of the Delta as well as expansive dry land areas, admired for their quality game viewing. Kwara Camp accommodates a maximum of 16 guests in eight traditionally styled tents on raised decks, each offering superb views of the lagoon. Towering African ebony and mangosteen trees ensure that the camp is always cool while the hundreds of birds add to the feeling of serenity in one of the Okavango s best kept secrets. Kwara Camp offers, within the exclusive concession in which it is located, a wide variety of activities. In addition to game drives, both day and night, the camp offers game walks and mokoro trips, as well as power boating and fishing (spinning equipment is provided but fly fisherman need to bring their own equipment). 4 The daily safari routine usually involves an early morning wake up call, and a gathering around the fireside for piping hot tea and coffee, a bowl of sumptuous porridge and freshly baked muffins. As well as the clean early morning air and dazzling sun rise, an early departure greatly increases the chances of unusual sightings, as the majority of mammals are active at the beginning and end of the day when temperatures are lower. Game drives are undertaken in custom designed Toyota game viewing vehicles seating no more than six guests at a time in two rows of three. The use of only two rows ensures that guests are never so far from the front of the vehicle that they are unable to hear the guide or tracker s interpretation, even while driving. Guests are guided by a two person team of professional guide and tracker - a special feature of the Kwando Safaris wildlife experience. The two person team enables the guide to communicate points of interest and the complex interrelations that exist throughout the natural world, while the tracker ensures no sightings or tracks are missed. with a game drive or mokoro and the length of walk can be adjusted to suit your personal desires or level of fitness. The boat experience is a soothing tonic, a contrast to the vigorous efforts of searching for mammals from a vehicle or on foot. Sit back and while away the hours, stopping to gaze at a multitude of spectacular birds and bathing elephants and enjoy the vistas of the river systems. However, don t be surprised should the peace be shattered by the snort of a territorial hippo warning the boat of his presence! Doubledecker boats are used to provide a better vantage point and offer a wonderful position to enjoy the waterways and their varied inhabitants. The mokoro or traditional dugout canoe is surely the definitive Okavango Delta experience. The complete stillness of an early morning, disturbed only by the sound of the water dripping from the ngashe (wooden pole used to move the canoe), and the eerie call of the fish eagle echoing across the water, is a sublime experience. The mokoro was designed to move across areas with low water levels by the indigenous peoples who inhabited the Delta and who explored the waterways and floodplains in search of food. Today, these same mokoro provide an opportunity to glide through this varied and unique habitat using the traditional skills handed down through the generations. The Okavango is recognised as an excellent fishing destination for both fly fishing and traditional spin fishing. However, not many people are aware of the amazing fishing that can also be experienced on the Kwando River. Species that are targeted by sports fisherman are several tilapia (bream) species (including the olive bream or nembwe, red breasted tilapia, purple faced largemouth and three spot tilapia), sharp tooth catfish, African pike and the mighty tiger fish. Kwara Camp The evening/night drives are a Kwando Safaris specialty. The drive starts in the late afternoon as the sun s rays are dipping to the west and the day s heat is declining. After a leisurely pause for the traditional sundowner, and as the African day is transformed into a soft colorful evening canvas, the night drive begins. The mystery unfolds as the creatures of the night, especially the predators, are revealed by spotlight, often unexpectedly. Walking in Africa s wild areas is the only way to truly appreciate the natural environment. While game viewing from a vehicle allows one to see more animals as you traverse much greater distances and get much closer to animals safely, there is nothing as awe inspiring and humbling as observing wild animals on foot. Many smaller species of plants and insects, tracks and signs are all easily missed when in a vehicle. The slow pace of the walk and interpretative skills of your guide will open your eyes to a new and fascinating world. Game walks are not hikes; they are slow comfortable strolls meant to provide you with a chance to experience the wilderness at a natural pace. Any walk can be combined SATURDAY, AUGUST 27 and SUNDAY, AUGUST 28 Northern Okavango Delta/Linyanti Marshes Depart by charter flight from Kwara Camp to arrive at Kwando s Lebala Camp. Lebala means wide open spaces in Setswana and the scenery is dominated by vast plains with scattered palms and tree islands backed by wooded savannahs. This wild expanse contrasts with the casual understated elegance and luxury of the camp itself. Lebala Camp is situated in the south of the Kwando concession, adjacent to the head waters of the Linyanti marshes that form the boundary between Botswana and Namibia. The perennial and southerly flowing Kwando River disappears into the vast marshland before emerging as the Linyanti River. The triangle formed by this vast wetland is home to the Mamili National Park in Namibia. The camp itself is comprised of eight custom designed tents, with unique mosquito net walls, allowing an unobstructed flow of cooling breezes and stunning views. Each spacious tent is built on a raised teak viewing deck, laid out with maximum comfort and privacy in mind. The tents have

5 an entrance foyer with a reading and writing area, en-suite bathrooms with bathtubs, washbasins, flush toilets and luxurious double outside showers with hot and cold running water. Each secluded tent is set back among the trees and has its own sundeck. The endless vistas from the large windows and deck across the vast plains, make Lebala Camp one of the finest wilderness camps in Africa. The wetlands and flood plains around Lebala Camp offer a wonderful variety of wildlife with excellent sightings of elephant, hippo, lechwe, zebra, impala, wildebeest, kudu, tsessebe, roan, sable, buffalo and the ever present predators: wild dog, lion, cheetah and hyena. After dark, spotlights are switched on and the game drives expose our guests to nocturnal sightings of rare and elusive species such as leopard, Selous mongoose, spotted genet and aardwolf. Nocturnal bird species that are encountered include Natal nightjar, pennant winged nightjar and a large variety of owls. Mouth-watering fare is prepared by our chefs and served in the open-sided dining room. After dinner there is a wonderful campfire around which to sip a coffee or enjoy a nightcap. The Nxai Pans were once part of a great lake that covered central Botswana-which included the Okavango Delta, Makgadikgadi and Lake Ngami. The pan is a fossil lakebed about 40 square kilometers (about 25 square miles) in size. The landscape is covered by grassland and dotted with clusters of umbrella acacia trees and mopane woodlands in the north. During the rains from November to April the pans become covered in grass which is the landscape very similar to the Kalahari. Nxai Pan Camp is located on the western edge of the fossil pan from which the camp takes its name. The camp faces east over the open grasslands of the pans and accommodates a maximum of eighteen guests in thatched units specially designed to provide a constant and comfortable temperature throughout the year, when seasonal temperatures can fluctuate from below freezing to well over 45 degrees Celsius (over 113 F). Excellent game viewing is possible from the comfort of your rooms as the water hole in front of the camp draws a multitude of mammal species. You will spend the next three days at Nxai Pan Camp. Game viewing at this time of year therefore concentrates on the relatively sparse resident game and the struggle for survival in the arid desert surroundings, which should provide sufficient interest for more experienced safari visitors. Activities offered at Nxai Pan are game drives, day trips to the famous Baines Baobabs and Khama Khama Pan, star gazing, as well as nature walks with Bushman trackers. 9 TERMS AND CONDITIONS Goway Travel LTD, The Saint Louis Zoo and Altair Travel and Cruises, and our cooperating agents make every effort to select reliable suppliers and contractors to provide aid and other transportation services, hotels, guides and other travel related corrections equated with such services. Each traveler agrees not to hold Goway Travel, LTD, The Saint Louis Zoo and Altair Travel and Cruises, its owners, employees, agents, sponsoring organization and/or damage which results directly or indirectly from any act of omission of any person or firm which is to or does provide goods or services in connection with the trip or with any available option Goway Travel LTD, the Saint Louis Zoo, and Altair Travel and Cruises, its cooperating agents and sponsoring organization shall not be liable for circumstances arising as a result of Acts of God, weather, detention, annoyance, delays and expenses arising from quarantine, strikes, theft, pilferage, acts of nature, military, political or terrorist action, civil disturbances, government restrictions or regulations, failure of any means of conveyance to arrive or depart as scheduled, discrepancies or changes in transit over which they have no control. On advancement of a deposit, the traveler agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions set forth above. I understand that by signing below I am acting for myself and for everyone in my party in acknowledging that I have read and accepted the Terms and Conditions, Payment, Refund and Cancellation Policy, and the Currency and Pricing fluctuations sections, of this reservation form.
