1 Program Action Plan Program: Counseling Prepared by: Charlotte, Program Coordinator COE Unit Goals, Objectives Goal : Technology Model and promote the use of emerging technology resources. 1. Develop or modify fully online or hybrid courses using the new Malone Center guidelines and Blackboard template % of who teach online or hybrid courses will receive training related to the new Malone Center guidelines, Blackboard template, and tips for teaching online/hybrid courses. 3. Re-implement the 4 year computer replacement cycle. 1. 2 COE Unit Goals, Objectives Goal: DIVERSITY Acknowledge and address issues related to diversity of students,, staff, curriculum, and field/clinical placements 1. Develop a marketing strategy for recruiting more unrepresented populations in our degree programs. 2. Market our three new alternative programs in Special Education and enroll10 students. 1. Develop a marketing strategy for the Counseling Program for recruiting underrepresented populations 2. At least 50% of Practicum and Internship students will be placed in non-profit agencies 1. Attend marketing workshops at ACA and ACES and consult with other Counselor Educators at those conferences to get ideas for marketing. 2. Identify non-profit agencies willing to sponsor practicum and internship students; hire a graduate assistant to research non-profit agencies in our catchment area; provide supervision training for potential supervisors in identified non-profit agencies. 3. Assessment: document efforts to develop marketing strategy 1. Dr. Lee Doebler 2. Drs. Doebler, 1. Funding for travel to ACA and ACES 2. Funding for graduate assistant to identify nonprofit agencies; travel and printing and materials money for supervision training.
3 COE Unit Goals, Objectives Goal: COLLABORATION Collaborate with public schools and other community agencies to positively impact P-12 student learning and client development. 1. Utilize videoconferencing technology in collaborative efforts with the Alabama School for the Deaf to offer at least two distance learning courses % of will collaborate in public schools or in the world of practice. 1. Program will utilize guest speakers from the community in 10% of courses offered 2. At least one program committee will include individuals from outside program area 1. Faculty will schedule guest speakers for 2011 courses 2. Faculty will invite individuals from outside program area to participate on committees 3. Assessment: Examination of course syllabi 1. Drs. Doebler, 1. Funds to provide travel reimbursement to speakers or a small stipend to speakers. 3. Extend invitations to Montevallo public school teachers and administrators to attend various professional development opportunities and campus events. Goal: BEST PRACTICES Encourage the use and development of best practices in specific fields of study. 1. Encourage COE to apply for a creative teaching grant through the Office of Special Academic Initiatives (Kathy King) % of who teach 1. Counseling will maintain licensure and/or credentials, maintain membership in ACA and earn an average of 20 hours of 1. Faculty will maintain credentials and attend professional development workshops and conferences. Assessment: FAR and Faculty vitae 2. Faculty will identify and order new assessment materials. 1. Faculty will identify opportunities for extracurricular service learning opportunities; Assessment: document efforts to identify classes (e.g. new 16 PF test kit, IQ testing kits, new Self- Directed Search kits and other assessments) 3. $5000 cost of updating video library for counseling courses 4. $5000 to fund travel for students and in the event of Red Cross deployment for emergencies or other Crisis Intervention Service Learning events Goal: OTHER [still tentative] Teacher Education Services: Launch an online application process Approve and begin to use new TEP interview questions Shorten TEP interview schedule by scheduling 20 minute interviews with 5 minutes in between Malone Center: Offer more Microsoft workshops Offer more peer-led Note: Programs do not have to correlate with the unit in this area. 1. Fill open position 2. Explore feasibility of adding an additional program track 3. Develop curriculum proposal for Ed.S. program 4. Simplify and increase effectiveness of application process 5. Maintain CACREP accreditation of all three counseling tracks. 6. Begin centralized collection of PD-LEO item analysis data and CPCE section analysis 1. Search committee will review applicants, interview and recommend an applicant for hire 2. Fall EDC 503 class will conduct a Needs Assessment of student interest in additional CACREP tracks; hire a graduate assistant to conduct a marketplace analysis. Assessment: Needs Assessment report will be completed by December 31, Counseling will develop a proposal by December 31, Work with Graduate Studies to streamline the application process 1.
