Directional Improvement 05/07/ KBOR curriculum alignment has added credit hours to core surgical technology courses in order to increase time spent teaching and learning content. KBOR curriculum alignment has added a one-credit hour ST Certification Exam review course to required curriculum. Plan Plan ARC/STSA CST Certification Exam - ARC/STSA reports Outcome: Certificate Exam - 100% of SCCC/ATD surgical technology graduates will take the ARC/STSA CST certification exam. 70% will pass on the first attempt. Benchmark: 100% participation; 70% pass rate on first attempt Schedule: 7/9/2010 Result Follow-Up 05/30/ Per ARCSTSA 2013 Annual Report: Class of % of students took the CST exam. (8 students) First time pass rate is 37.5%. (3/8 students) Directional Improvement 05/30/ The first time pass rate for 2012 is a 13.5% improvement over the previous year's pass rate. plan: Continue Northstar CST online review assignments. The recent KBOR Curriculum Alignment meeting (May 1, 2013) resulted in adding more credit hours to core classes to allow more instructional time and an additional one credit hour class titled "Surgical Technologist Certification Review Course." 2 Result Follow-Up 05/17/ Data for class of (ARCSTSA Annual Report submitted May 1, 2012). 100% students took the certification exam. 24% passed the certification exam. 17 students took the exam, 4 passed. 05/23/ % participation and 33.3% pass rate on first attempt. 9/10 took the exam and 3/9 passed on the first attempt. 05/17/ Current action plan in progress: Anatomy and physiology was a prerequisite to get into the ST program. An online CST study/review subscription has been purchased and assignments made for January -July Data comparing individual CST Practice Exam scores to pass rates indicated a likelihood of passing the CST exam if a student scored of 61% on the practice exam. Students who score 60% or lower on the CST practice exam will be required to come in for remediation and a repeat CST practice exam prior to the CST exam on July 12, /23/ Plan of action implemented during Spring 2011 Surgical Technology core classes: 1. Increased use of CST study question in actual exams 2. Increased use of CST study guide text in online assignments 3. Will ask ST advisory board to approve use of NBSTSA Self Assessment Exam (SAE) as an exit exam - to encourage students to study more rather than viewing the SAE as a "throw-away" or non-credit assignment. Will require students to pass the SAE with a score of 70% or higher in order to pass the final ST course - Surgical Procedures II. 4. Will schedule three face-to-face CST review sessions with local students and will ask MATC clinical coordinator to also schedule three face-to-face CST review sessions during late June-early July of each program year. *Information - Passing the CST exam is not a requirement to work as a surgical technologist. Few hospitals in the area require the credential and many students do not view passing the CST exam as a priority. Plan Plan Indirect Program - Surgical Technology Monitor graduation rates. Outcome: Retention Levels - The program will maintain retention levels at 70% or above. Benchmark: 70% retention Schedule: 7/10/ /29/2015 2:27 PM Generated by TracDat a product of Nuventive. Will consider changing admission requirements if data supports. 05/30/ Due to the wide variety of reasons for student attrition, there is no clear trend indicating a specific plan of action to reduce attrition. The ST faculty, advisory board and MATC faculty and staff will continue to monitor for trends annually. A survey will be conducted in June 2013 of past graduates and current students to look for ways to improve retention levels. Plan Plan ST Graduate Survey required by the ARCSTSA. Outcome: ST Graduate Employment - ST graduates will find employment in the field or will continue education during the year following graduation.
