1 Dear Potential Intern: Young Men of Valor is a mentoring program of Henry Tellis Foundation founded for fatherless, young men between the ages of 10 to 18. The program focuses on developing character and leadership among the program participants. The Henry Tellis Foundation and the Young Men of Valor Mentoring Program strive to transform young men into leaders of today and tomorrow. Among many other outreach efforts, Henry Tellis Foundation also hosts Camp PRIDE, which is an annual football and volleyball camp for young men and women. Camp PRIDE (Personal Responsibility In Delivering Excellence) has allowed over 400 kids to participate in a day of character and team building exercises with collegiate and professional athletes and coaches. It is our desire to allow socially conscious college students the opportunity to become empowered through serving and obtaining experience in community activism, program administration, and education. We currently offer internships in the areas of mentoring, tutoring, and administration. Attached are the internship application and internship descriptions. 5 INTERNSHIP PROGRAM INFORMATION The internship program is designed to provide students and recent graduates with an opportunity to become empowered through serving and obtaining experience in community activism, program administration, and education. Internship Positions Available: Internship opportunities are available in the areas of mentoring, tutoring, and program administration. Interns are allowed to split their time between the areas as preferred and are outline as follows: Mentoring Internship Interns are responsible for visiting students at local schools with the program director. They also assist with mentor recruitment, preparations for group mentoring activities, and communicating with parents. Tutoring Internship Interns will be responsible for assisting with grade assessments and tutoring efforts. They will also assist with tutor recruitment, co-facilitation of tutoring activities, and communicating with parents. Administration Internship Interns are responsible for assisting with daily clerical and administrative support. They also assist with compiling student data (grades, attendance records, and behavioral reports), fundraising, and communicating with parents. Eligibility: A candidate must be a graduate student; an undergraduate student; or have graduated from college within 12 months of beginning the internship. General Information: Interns are expected to work between 8 and 10 hours a week during an 8 to 12 week internship period. Work schedules are flexible around the intern s class schedules. Occasional evenings may be necessary. Internships are offered during the summer, fall, and spring semesters. Interns may receive academic credit if an agreement is made prior between Young Men of Valor and the intern s college or university. Application Procedures: Candidates must complete an application form and submit it with their cover letter and resume. Some internship positions require additional application items, such as a writing sample. All application items must be submitted as a complete package. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
