4 Message from the CHAIR AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR During , the CIF approved $9,601,096 in grants to support 675 Saskatchewan community projects and events. Darlene Bessey Chairperson Dear community leaders and partners, Community work is about collaboration, patience and partnerships. The Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) is a special form of partnership, designed to provide for an even better quality of life for Saskatchewan people. During , the CIF received $8,003,498 from annual net revenues generated by the casinos in Regina and Moose Jaw, which allowed us to approve $9,601,096 in grants to support 675 Saskatchewan community projects and events. We re proud that more than 350 communities from throughout the province have now benefitted from the CIF s support since our inception in and Spaces Program offers grants for small capital projects, extending the Small Capital grants formerly offered through the Community Vitality Program. Our funding priorities will continue to benefit urban and rural Aboriginal peoples, newcomers, and individuals challenged by financial constraints, accessibility issues, or other barriers. Adjudication of grant applications are conducted through volunteer adjudication committees, made up of Saskatchewan people with extensive community and nonprofit experience. extends to the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport and the Government of Saskatchewan for their continued support. We look forward to continuing our growth as an organization dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of people from all over Saskatchewan, and to growing as a knowledge resource for nonprofit, community and volunteer-based organizations across the province. Sincerely, Tracey Mann Executive Director was a big year for the CIF in other ways too, as we completed a full review and evaluation of our grant programs, including how they support Social Determinants of Health indicators. In response, we ve revamped our programs for easier access and to better align with the needs and priorities of Saskatchewan communities. The CIF s program changes, effective April 1, 2014, saw a broadening of the Community Grant Program to include physical activity and problem gambling initiatives, support of nonprofits, youth engagement and leadership development, and community cultural and milestone celebrations. These enhancements allowed for the retirement of the Physical Activity, Problem Gambling and Community Vitality grant programs as of March 31, A new, two-year Community Places During the year, we enhanced the CIF s presence through a website redesign, staff participation at trade shows, and Saskatchewan sector-based workshops. Print and radio promotional efforts bolstered the CIF s reach to most Saskatchewan communities. Almost 1,500 residents regularly received the CIF s electronic newsletters, which include community projects and resources for nonprofits and charities. We acknowledge the teamwork and dedication of our adjudication committee members and other grant delivery partners and agencies. This appreciation Darlene Bessey Chairperson Tracey Mann Executive Director 4 5

5 Meet THE BOARD Our PROGRAMS The CIF is a Special Purpose Fund created through The Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation Act, governed by a Board of eight members, and accountable to the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport. The CIF envisions vibrant, resilient, sustainable and proud Saskatchewan communities whose citizens are engaged and actively working to enhance quality of life. The CIF provides grants for communityled projects that help to foster community development, inclusion and leadership in Saskatchewan. These grants support opportunities for children, youth, family and community, Aboriginal inclusion and participation, increased physical activity, enhanced awareness about problem gambling and for small capital community projects and milestone celebrations.
