His diverse work includes being the Director of Surveys for all the survey departments with Garver LLC offices located in Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida. Lanny is licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in Arkansas and Mississippi. He was ASPS President in Mr. Beavers and his wife Sherry have been married for 30 years and reside in Hot Springs Village. His major hobbies include radio broadcasting and website design. He owns two of the largest sports websites in Arkansas. For Vice President... Mike Wright, PS Mr. Wright has been employed with Crafton Tull & Associates in the Transportation department since the spring of He earned his Professional Surveyors license in He currently supervises all of the consultant s survey work performed for the Arkansas Highway & Transportation Department. He has been certified by the AHTD in areas of Control Surveys, Design Surveys, Boundary Surveys & Digital Leveling. Working with the AHTD has allowed him to survey in multiple areas of the State of Arkansas, meet and network with many other Professional Surveyors, and experience how surveying is practiced in these areas. He has been involved in setting up GPS control networks for local municipalities. He has attended several training seminars sponsored by AHTD, a Surveying program at Northwest Technical Institute and GPS training courses. He enjoys being a part of a historic profession, serving as the ASPS District 1 Director ( ), working with his group of employees, coordinating with other firms and clients. Working with state and federal agencies, coordinating with multiple engineering/surveying firms and networking with many other professional surveyors will aid in leading and serving in ASPS. Networking with other professionals and a legislative voice are valuable benefits of ASPS. This past year we saw a couple of legislative issues arise concerning our profession. With a voice of 365 plus members, we can make sure it is heard, loud and clear, on future issues.
3 For District 1 Director... Wayman White, PS I am happily married to my wife Sheila of 23 years, I have two daughters aged 22 and 12 and one son 19 years old. I was born in San Antonio, TX and moved to Northwest Arkansas in I began my career in Surveying as a rodman in 1986 for C&F Surveyors where I was promoted to instrument man and then crew chief. In 1992 I went to work for Alan Reid and Associates as a crew chief were I received my LSIT and was promoted to head crew chief. In 2009 I was laid off and went to work for Walmart as an Asset Protection Manager. I decided in 2011 that surveying was where my passion was and returned to surveying at Garver in Fayetteville where I received my P.S. and I still work today. I believe as a leader you must learn to lesson first to the problem, research the problem and as a group come up with a plan that best resolves the problem. The greatest benefit of being a member of ASPS is it gives you a support group of professionals to work alongside and learn from others experiences. Grant Nevill, PS Grant has lived in Arkansas for 30 years, growing up in Bentonville. He began surveying in 1995 for Engineering Design Associates in Springdale. After 14 years with EDA and several years at Sand Creek Engineering, Grant started Nevill Surveying four years ago. Grant is a licensed PS in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Bentonville is where he calls home with his wife and two sons. One benefit that has become apparent recently is the lobbying power our association has at the state governing level. This is evident not only in the form of lobbyist, but in the collective encouragement to members to contact our representatives. That brings up a second important benefit of being a member of the ASPS in providing a platform to interact and learn with other professionals. This leads to a better professional environment from the local to state level. A larger state wide participation in the society. The professional and personal connections that are made at the two annual conferences are invaluable and the educational value is great as well. It is critical that we as professionals work together to ensure the future and integrity of surveying and by having more members we have a stronger voice. For District 2 Director... Leann Parker, PS Leann is a 2008 graduate of UAM. She has been employed with Crafton Tull & Associates since After working in the Civil Survey Division for a year, Leann was transferred to the Energy Division, where she is currently a project manager. Leann and her husband Jeffrey have been married for 8 years. They have a 4-year-old daughter, Emma, and a 7-month-old son, Charlie. I believe one of the greatest benefits of being an ASPS member is that a couple of times a year, we bring professionals of all ages together, giving more seasoned generations of surveyors the opportunity to share their experiences with younger generations. Another great benefit is being able to stand together and have our collective voice heard on issues that affect our profession as we demonstrated last year during the legislative session. I would like to increase our membership by making ASPS more appealing to our younger members.
4 For District 2 Director cotinued... Michael Daniels, PS Michael Daniels is currently the Survey Manager at HKB-Fisher Arnold in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He is licensed in Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, & Tennessee; is a Certified Federal Surveyor and is currently serving his 2nd term as Craighead County Surveyor. Michael has been working in the surveying profession for 19 years and has been licensed in Arkansas since He and his wife have two daughters that are 8 and 5 years old. The greatest benefits to ASPS membership is the power in numbers and the opportunities for education and networking. Communication. How else can ASPS grow and continue to serve its members and the general public without the ability to communicate effectively, efficiently, and with purpose? For District 5 Director... Ray Hickey, PS Ray is a native of Little Rock. Education: Catholic High School LR, Christian Brothers College Memphis TN BSCE. His past experience includes bridge layout/inspection AHTD; Asst. Resident Engineer AHTD; Project Engineer/Manager Thomco Inc. NLR.; Project Engineer Summerlin Assoc.; Bond Project Engineer CLR Public Works; Principle Engineer & Surveyor Central Arkansas Engineering. Ray is a licensed PE in Arkansas and Oklahoma, and a PLS in Arkansas and Texas. He is married to Kate. My attention to constructive criticism of ASPS. My magic wand would put ASPS in the same business prestige as doctors (State Medical Board), lawyers (ABA), and other licensed professionals, as our profession, organization and members both need and deserve that recognition. David Garza, PS David is a graduate of Wm. B. Travis High School in Austin, TX, and has attended numerous post-secondary education institutions in 3 states. He married his college sweetheart in 1983 and has 3 wonderful children & grandchildren. David began his career in 1978 while employed with the Texas State Highway Dept. in Austin and continued his surveying experience in Texas, Nevada, Kansas, and Arkansas. David has made Russellville his home for the past 25 years and enjoys fishing, boating, and disc golf. The greatest benefits as a member of ASPS is spending time with fellow professionals in a question and answer setting. You learn from the questions that come out of the conference sessions. Sometimes you have a question and are afraid to ask. No problem, there has always been someone that had the same question and did ask which opened up the floor in discussion which has proven to be quite valuable and educational, if not sometimes confrontational. ASPS is a great organization for surveyors in Arkansas. If there would be anything to I would like to see changed is maybe consider posting the agenda for the quarterly meetings on our web site 2 weeks before each meeting from which members may remit comments. Notification s, tweeter, text messages, could be sent out to alert members the agenda has been posted. This would require more of Amber s time but might prove to be a way in which members feel connected and a part of the discussion process.
5 For District 5 Director continued... Jeremy Lawson, PS Jeremy lives in Dardanelle with his wife, Mindi, and son, Tucker. He is a survey coordinator for Crafton Tull and is responsible for their Energy Division s surveys in Oklahoma and Kansas where he also holds licenses. In addition to his duties with the Energy Division, he also manages survey projects in Arkansas for Crafton Tull s Russellville office. In 2013, Jeremy completed the Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS) program that is co-administered by the Bureau of Land Management and the National Society of Professional Surveyors. Although already licensed, and earning the designation as a Certified Federal Surveyor, Jeremy began working on his Associate of Applied Science in Surveying Technology at UACCM in He expects to earn that degree in May of I feel that God has blessed me with experiences that will serve me well as a leader for ASPS. I have been able to sharpen my leadership skills from the ground up. Over the years I have progressed from rodman to party chief to managing multiple crews across several states. My goal, if elected, will be to provide servant leadership to surveyors in my district and to the surveying profession. For a more complete look at my qualifications and experience you can view my LinkedIn profile at: jeremyalawson1741 I would like to see more local chapters established within ASPS. Local chapters have the benefit of meeting more frequently, in a less structured format, and with surveyors who live and work in the same area. I feel fortunate that in the area that I work, surveyors are generally comfortable enough with one another to feel free to call on one another when they have questions about the others work or other survey issues. Local chapter s foster relationship building that will serve one another and the public. The less structured format allows those who might be of a more timid nature to speak up and share their observations. It is not always those who speak the loudest or most frequently that have the most to say. Finally, each area has its own peculiar history. In order to properly follow in the footsteps, we need to know what the footprints look like and sharing information among peers in local areas might help to shed light on retracement issues.
