3 Installation & Use 3 Installation & Use The Infinity WF scanners (WF 36, WF 42, and WF 48) can be installed and used in multiple ways. One of the many features of the Infinity WF is that it can be connected to and operated over a wide area network (WAN) with or without an Internet connection. This is not a requirement, however. Infinity WF scanners can also be connected and operated using a dedicated host PC, or the Touch Screen located on the scanner itself. This section covers each of the various installation types; as well as the different methods for using the scanner. Note This manual uses the following terms: LAN and WAN. The definition for each of them in terms of use for this manual is: LAN (Local Area Network) scanner is accessible from a single, dedicated host PC using the supplied crossover cable WAN (Wide Area Network) scanner is connected to the network using an Ethernet cable and an IP address, and is accessible over that network from any PC also on that network, with or without an Internet connection. 3.1 Installation The Infinity WF scanner can be installed using one of two methods: The Touch Screen located on the scanner A host PC connected to the scanner with the supplied crossover cable, using the Infinity WF s Web-based Interface Touch Screen Installation The Touch Screen has an easy-to-use menu for installing the scanner for use on a WAN. For detailed instructions on how to install the scanner on a WAN using the Touch Screen, go to: Self Test 1 Screen, IP Address (Network Setup) in this manual. It is; however, recommended that section 3.3 Ready for Use be reviewed first. Crossover Cable (Host PC) Installation The Infinity WF scanner does not require network configuration if it is to be used for scanning using a single, dedicated host PC, and the scanned images are to be saved directly to that PC (images could also be saved directly to USB if the USB option is installed on the scanner). Page 19 of 117

Infinity WF Operator Manual If being able to scan from more than one location is required and/or the scanned images are to be saved or sent to a location other than a host PC, the scanner needs to be configured for the WAN. This can be accomplished using a host PC with the supplied crossover cable, a valid network IP address, and the Infinity WF s Web-based Interface. To do this, see Network Configuration Button under Base Settings in this manual. Figure 3.1: Using the crossover cable 3.2 Use (Scanning) Scanning with the Infinity WF can be accomplished using three different methods: Touch Screen; Host PC using the supplied crossover cable; and PC connected to the WAN with or without an Internet connection. Touch Screen Scanning can be accomplished on the Infinity WF directly from the scanner using the Touch Screen. It has an easy-to-use menu and helps the operator to control all scanner parameters with the touch of a finger. If the need arises to view a scanned image while operating the scanner from the Touch Screen, an external monitor can be attached to the scanner (see Viewer Control for more information). For detailed instructions on to use the various functions and controls available from the Touch Screen, begin with section 4 Setup & Performance Optimization in this manual. It is; however, recommended that section 3.3 Ready for Use be reviewed first. Host PC with Crossover Cable If it is not required that the Infinity WF scanner be accessible from more than one PC, and the scanned images are to be saved directly to that PC and not saved/sent elsewhere, perform the following: Page 20 of 117

3 Installation & Use 1. Connect the PC to the scanner using the supplied crossover cable 2. Power ON the PC 3. Power ON the scanner 4. 39 4 Setup and Performance Optimization 4 Setup & Performance Optimization Caution Before using the scanner in a new environment allow at least one hour for temperature adaptation. A fast change from cold to warm environmental conditions can build up condensation inside the housing. This will result in unfavorable scanned images and could cause permanent damages to the unit. This section deals with the operational setup up your Infinity WF scanner using the Touch Screen. Setting the scanner up on a network for use with the Touch Screen and/or the webbased interface is documented in Self Test 1 Screen, IP Address; including the various tests that can be run before use for optimizing scanner performance. Note The scanner s Touch Screen is used to facilitate the functions and tests detailed in this section. The same can be performed via a PC that has been configured on the same network as the Infinity WF scanner, using the scanner s web-based interface. Instructions on how to do so can be found in this manual in section 7 Infinity Webbased Interface. 4.1 Setup Mode Setup Mode is used to adjust and self test the scanner s Touch Screen, communication, lamps and sensors. It consists of two main screens from which these different tests and functions are administered: Self Test 1; and Self Test 2. To enter Setup Mode, perform the following: 1. Power ON the scanner (refer to Powering ON/OFF) 2. When the blinking message Touch screen to power up is displayed, tap the Touch Screen once to initialize the start sequence. The start sequence is running when a spinning hour glass appears on the screen 3. While the start sequence is running, tap at least three times anywhere on the Touch Screen for the Infinity WF to enter Setup mode (the start sequence will continue to run as in normal power up and the Setup mode screen will display only when the sequence is complete) 4. Once in Setup mode, the Touch Screen will display the first Setup screen Self Test 1 Note Not following the above procedure correctly will result in displaying the Main Menu on the Touch Screen. Page 25 of 117

Infinity WF Operator Manual Self Test 1 Screen Figure 4.1: Self Test 1 screen The following functions are accessed from the Self Test 1 screen: IP Address; White Balance; Lamp On/Off; Transport control arrows; and Exit Self test. IP Address (Network Setup) For communication the Infinity WF uses TCP/IP to quickly and efficiently transfer data over a network connection. To setup a connection on a network BBH recommends using only the supplied Ethernet cables. Note See section 1.4 Component Identification, Left Side of Scanner for location of Ethernet Network Cable Connector. If you are not familiar with computer networking or TCP/IP connectivity please consult an IT professional before proceeding any further. To setup the Infinity WF scanner on your network begin by entering a valid IP address using the following procedure: 1. Tap the IP Address button on the Self Test 1 screen. The Network Setup screen will be displayed This screen allows you to enter the: IP Address Gateway Netmask DHCP Figure 4.2: Network Setup screen The Default button resets the IP address to original factory setting. 2. Tap the Address field (area where the IP address is displayed) to open the numeric keypad that allows you to enter your valid IP address Page 26 of 117

4 Setup and Performance Optimization Figure 4.3: Numeric Keypad 3. Enter the valid IP address and tap the button to save your entry and return to the Network Setup screen 4. Perform the same for each of the fields in the Network Setup screen (where necessary). When done, press the Save button to save your changes Note While DHCP service is operational the scanner name will not be broadcast because this device is not running a client for MS Windows. For DHCP settings see your local IT/Network Administrator. 5. A Save Changes message will be displayed. Tap the Yes button to save your changes or the No button if you don t want the changes saved Figure 4.4: Save Changes screen White Balance White balance refers to the adjustment of the relative amounts of primary colors (i.e. red, green, and blue) in an image, so that neutral colors are reproduced correctly. The directions below explain the process of adjusting the white balance. Note It is very important to perform the White Balance procedure before the first time use of the scanner. Please review the information found under White Balance in this manual for further explanation before proceeding. To complete the White Balance procedure, perform the following: 1. In the Self Test 1 screen, tap the White Balance button to display the White Balance screen Page 27 of 117

As stated on the screen, place the control sheet S (also known as the calibration sheet) on the scan table and slide it into the scanner s transport. The scanner will align the sheet by pulling it forward and back. Once it has finished, tap the >Cont. button The Abort button immediately discontinues the procedure and returns you to the previous screen 3. The control sheet will be pulled in and the measurement starts. While the measurement is running a graphic symbol shows the progress 4. Once the procedure finishes and the control sheet is ejected from the transport, the Touch Screen will display the results of the procedure 5. Click the Finish button when done Figure 4.6: White Calibration Results screen Lamp On / Off Touch and hold the Lamp On / Off button to switch the lamps on. 43 4 Setup and Performance Optimization Exit Self Test Tapping the Exit Self Test button finalizes the Setup mode, switches to the Operation mode, and displays the Main Menu. Figure 4.7: Operation mode - Main Menu Self Test 2 Screen Figure 4.8: Self Test 2 screen The following functions are accessed from the Self Test 2 screen: Touch Adjust; Touch Test; Stitch Test; EMV Test; Sensor Test; and Shutdown Scanner. To access the Self Test 2 screen, tap the More button found on the Self Test 1 screen. Touch Adjust Note It is recommended to read all instructions before proceeding. The Touch Adjust function defines the dimension of the writing area of the Touch Screen. The first step after selecting this function must be done very quickly to activate the adjustment procedure. To complete the Touch Adjust procedure, perform the following: 1. Tap the Touch Adjust button on the Self Test 2 screen, and immediately tap and hold your finger on the Touch Screen. The first message on the screen ( Touch adjustment? Don t Page 29 of 117

Infinity WF Operator Manual touch for normal use ) can be ignored (perform the press and hold on top of the Touch adjustment? Don t touch for normal use message) 2. After a short moment a blinking dot appears at the upper left corner of the Touch Screen and the instruction Touch this blinking dot is displayed Note If the touch and hold procedure mentioned in step 1 above is not done quickly and/or the scanner doesn t recognize it, the instruction to Touch this blinking dot will not be displayed. Either only a large blinking square will be visible in the upper left hand corner of the Touch Screen or the scanner will immediately go back to displaying the Self Test 2 screen. If a blinking square appears in the upper left hand corner, tap it and you will be taken back to the Self Test 2 screen. Touch the blinking dot as accurately as possible with your finger; you may also use the tip of a non marking PDA type stylus. 3. The instruction will appear again; however, this time the blinking dot will appear in the lower right corner. Repeat touching the blinking dot in the lower right corner. The Touch Screen will then return to the Self Test 2 screen at which time the Touch Adjust procedure is complete It is recommended that you verify the adjustments just made by using the Touch Test function. Touch Test Touch Test is used to check the display and touch accuracy of the Touch Screen and verify any adjustments done by the Touch Adjust function. Figure 4.9: Touch Screen adjustment After selecting the Touch Test function from the Self Test 2 screen, the display changes to a blank area. By using a stylus pointer, (e.g. as used with a PDA), the correlation between writing position and displayed position can be checked. If the writing on the screen appears inaccurate (i.e. misaligned from stylus or going off the screen) proceed to the Touch Adjust function to correct the accuracy of the alignment, and then repeat the Touch Test function. Do this as many times as necessary until acceptable results are achieved. If adjustment does not reach satisfactory levels after several attempts contact the BBH Scanner Help Desk at SCAN-495.
