1 The United States Probation and Pretrial Services Office for the District of Kansas believes the transition out of the criminal justice system is a process, not an event. The transition off supervision is one of the most critical steps in achieving long term success in the community. We hope, during the course of your supervision by our office, you have been provided with the tools you require to make this transition a successful one. The purpose of this handbook is to provide you with written reference materials, should you need assistance after your term of supervision has expired. 2 DISABILITY The State of Kansas Social and Rehabilitative Services (SRS) Disability Determination Services (DDS) makes disability and blindness determinations for the U.S. Social Security Administration. DDS also reviews the cases of individuals who already receive benefits, in order to determine if they continue to qualify for benefits; conducts hearings in cases where SSI eligibility is found to have ceased; and makes Medicaid eligibility determinations for individuals who do not meet the financial requirements for SSI. 9 SUBSTANCE ABUSE There are hundreds of licensed substance abuse treatment providers in the State of Kansas. It would not be feasible to provide the contact information for every provider as part of these reference materials. If you are in need of substance abuse treatment services, the U.S. Probation Office recommends you contact the Regional Alcohol and Drug Assessment Center (RADAC) listed below, which services the Northeast Kansas area. This center is funded by the State of Kansas Social and Rehabilitative Services (SRS) and provides onsite assessment and referrals. The center also determines an individual s financial eligibility for services If an individual is determined to be economically disadvantaged, the center provides pre-approved payment for treatment.
