ThisdocumentassumesthatyouridentitiesaresetupintheMicrosoftWindowsCertificateStorewhich canbeaccessedfromtools >InternetOptions,Content >CertificatesinInternetExplorer. FirstgotoEdit >PreferencesandselectSecurityfromthesidemenu.Ensurethat VerifySignatures whenthedocumentisopened ischecked.

CreatingaCustomSignatureAppearance Inordertoplaceanelectronicimageonthedigitalsignature,youneedtocreateacustomsignature appearance.fromthemainmenu,selectedit >Preferences,andthenSecurityonthesidemenu.There willbealistofexistingsignatureappearances.clickon New tocreateanewsignatureappearance, andyouwillseeadialogsimilartofigure4. Givethissignatureappearanceanappropriatetitle.UnderConfigureGraphic,youshouldselect ImportedGraphic andthenclickonthefilebuttontoselectthefilethatcontainsthegraphic.under ConfigureText,youshouldselectthoseelementsthatareimportantfordisplaywithyoursignature.In thiscase,name,date,reason,theadobelogo,andlabelsarechosen.thepreviewupdateswitheach choice,soyoucanseehowthesignaturewilllookonthedocument. Figure 6 - Certification Options Whenyouchoosetocertifyadocument,youcansetwhattypesofactionsareallowedwithoutmaking thedigitalsignatureinvalid.ifyouaretheonlysignerofthedocument,itisrecommendedthatyou Disallowandchangestothedocument.Ifthedocumentneedsothersignaturessuchasforfinal approval,youmustcreateothersignaturefieldsbeforecertifyingthedocument,andselect Onlyallow formfill inactionsonthisdocument astheallowedaction.ifyouwouldlikepeopletocommentonthe document,youcanalso Onlyallowcommentingandformfill inactionsonthisdocument.inthis example,wewilldisallowanychangestothedocument. Onceyou veselectedtheallowedactions,acrobatwillaskyouifyouwanttoshowthecertification visiblyonthedocument.inorderforthedigitalsignaturetobeplacedonthedocumentalongwitha sealorlogo,select ShowCertificationondocument. 6 Atthispoint,youwillbeaskedtoclickanddragtheareaonthedocumentwhereyouwouldlikethe visibledigitalsignaturetoappear.ifthereisadefinedareatosignthedocument,youshould draw thesignatureareaoverthedocumentwherethesignatureshouldbevisible. OnceyouhavedrawnyoursignatureareayouwillseetheSaveasCertifiedDocumentdialog.Ifyou havenotsignedadocumentbefore,youmaybeaskedtoselectthedigitalidyouwanttousefor signing.clickon ShowOptions,andunderSignatureAppearance,selectthecustomappearanceyou createdinsection0. Ifyouhaveareasonforsigningthedocument,oryouaresubjecttolawsorregulationswhichrequire youtogiveareason,youcanselectonefromthedropdownbox.fromatechnicalstandpoint,areason isnotrequiredforadigitalsignature,butreasonsaresometimesrequiredbypolicy. Whenyouhaveselectedyourreason,signatureappearance,and(ifdesired)thelocationandcontact information,clickon SignandSave or SignandSaveAs tosavethedocument. IfyourDigitalIDneedsapassphrasetobeunlocked,thesystemwillaskforone.Otherwise,youwillbe shownyoursigneddocument.intheupperleftofthesignatureareawillbeablueribbon(asinfigure 8).Thismeansthatthecertifyingdigitalsignatureisvalid.Ifyoudidnotcertifythedigitalsignature, thenagreencheckmarkwillbeshown(asinfigure9).
