The manual replaces all other manuals and course notes published by the Institute at Induction or Entry Level Basic Guarding and Door Security. The course language is English. Reference to gender may be described by the use of the wording he, him etc. this wording is used for convenience only. 3 Security Skills Manual Academic Declaration This manual demonstrates the importance of the consultative and collaborative processes between sectoral subject matter experts and educational experts, in the development, structuring, writing, use, delivery and review of the Security Skills Manual. Its purpose is to communicate knowledge and its value, to learners, trainers and stakeholders and ensure the understanding of equality and respect in both the learning and work environments. It has been devised in a manner that supports the learning outcomes of a range of modules and training specifications of the Security Institute of Ireland, which when satisfactorily completed meet the educational requirements for the Private Security Authority licensing of security personnel in the Basic Guarding and Door Security sectors. The manual content forms a part of an overall methodology of a structured quality controlled system of information delivery to learners. Others areas within this methodology are modules and training specifications delivered by SII Registered Trainers which allow through robust assessment the progression of learners to higher levels of education with a true currency to certification. It gives learners an understanding of the availability of access, transfer and progression to other programmes which is assured by continuous programme development and fair and consistent assessment of learners. This system is monitored through ongoing evaluation of programmes and services thereby ensuring the continued protection of learners. This manual can be used as a reference source but it is primarily developed for use as an educational document. The ethos of the Institute holds the learner as the central purpose for its existence. This is demonstrated by the high quality of informational value contained in this manual which will assist in the achievement of standards of excellence in learner education. I would like to thank the academic board, educational advisors, all contributors and the editor for the production of this excellent academic manual. Larry Quinn F.Sec.I.I. Academic Chair iii
