2 Strategic Overview On November 21 st 2011 HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark gave her name to The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead in recognition of the network of excellence in cancer care in the west of Sydney. The official ceremony was attended by: HRH the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark The Minister for Health, Ms Gillian Skinner The Danish Ambassador to Denmark, Ms Susanne Shine The Chairman of the Western Sydney LHD, Professor Steven Leeder The Chairman of the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, Professor Patrick Cregan Staff and patients of the Sydney West Cancer Network. At this ceremony, our ongoing strategic partnership with Denmark, and specifically the Aarhus University Hospital was emphasised and endorsed. Our major goal is to progress this strategic partnership to energise excellence and innovation in cancer care in Australia and Denmark. A key plank in this collaboration is to develop meaningful and productive partnerships which promote excellence and innovation in cancer nursing. This is a strategic priority for nursing in both the Western Sydney and Nepean Blue Mountains LHD. In 2015, a number of our staff from supportive and palliative care team visited Aarhus University Hospital, and in fact were received by the Crown Princess herself at a ceremony in Copenhagen. As a result of the visit, there is further impetus to strengthen the collaborations in supportive and palliative care between our centres. A unique opportunity exists for a supportive and palliative care nurse from within the Sydney West Cancer Network to be the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Nursing Fellow for The ideal candidate for this pivotal Fellowship would: Demonstrate capacities that would ensure meaningful communications and relationships with all levels of nursing at Aarhus University Hospital (i.e. credibility from the level of Director of Nursing down to ward level). Have a track record in, or capacity to lead innovation in palliative care nursing. Page 2

3 Deep working knowledge of the operations of supportive and palliative care nursing services so as to promote meaningful discussions of service problems and improvement projects. Deep working knowledge of outpatient coordination of supportive and palliative care. Capacity to facilitate ongoing strategic partnerships between Sydney and Aarhus after their return. It is envisaged that the time spent at Aarhus University Hospital would be approximately two weeks. The 2015 Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Nursing Fellowship is open to supportive and palliative care nurses employed within the Sydney West Cancer Network (i.e. Western Sydney and Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health Districts). Funds ($7,000) are available to assist with travel and accommodation costs during this exchange. Application for this scholarship must be submitted in writing and: Address the goals of the Fellowship and how the applicant matches the capacities described above Provide a detailed curriculum vitae Document the following: o Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (NSW Registered Nurse Division 1) o Proof of Australian Citizenship / Permanent Residency o Current position within the Sydney West Cancer Network, a description of the role and achievements in this position o Minimum Three (3) years full time equivalent experience in Palliative Care Nursing o Demonstrated patient service focus o Demonstrated effective communication skills written and verbal o Commitment to professional development The successful applicant will be required to: Provide a written report to the Sydney West Cancer Network within 30 days of return. Provide a presentation of their Supportive and Palliative Care Nursing Exchange experience at Nursing Grand Rounds at both Western Sydney and Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health Districts. Provide a presentation of their Supportive and Palliative Care Nursing Exchange experience at the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Symposium in November Provide presentations at national cancer meetings including COSA. 5 Terms and Conditions The applicant recommendation for the Sydney West Cancer Network is at the discretion of the Scholarship Assessment Committee. If there are no suitable applicants, the committee reserves the right not to award the scholarship. The scholarship is not transferable either in whole or part to any other person or for any other purpose. Travel is to be in accordance with NSW Ministry of Health Policy Directive PD2009_016. The Cancer Nursing Exchange must be taken prior to September All invoices (flights and accommodation) must be provided to the Sydney West Cancer Network prior to departure. Please note: Please retain receipts for taxation purposes. Use of Funds Scholarship monies may be used for the following purposes: o Fares, accommodation and per diem allowance that covers such items as meals, personal laundry, telephone calls etc. o Visits to hospitals, centres, providers of health services of excellence in public and/or private health care sectors. No additional funds will be allocated over and above the awarded scholarship amount. Page 5
