1 Tech Note 202 Configuring the Wonderware SECS-II/GEM Host Creator (SERIAL- RS232) All Tech Notes and KBCD documents and software are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. Topic#: Created: December 22, 2000 This Tech Note will show you how to configure the Wonderware SECS-II/GEM Host Creator, and verify the Equipment Creator configuration by configuring an InTouch application. Note In order to verify the Host Creator, you must first configure the Equipment Creator. You must also have a NULL MODEM cable to connect between the HOST Creator and Equipment Creator PC s serial ports. To configure the Equipment Creator, refer to Tech Note 203. Configuring the Wonderware SECS-II/GEM Host Creator 1. Start the Wonderware SECS-II/GEM Host Creator by selecting Program Files\FactorySuite\SECS-II GEM folder. In the SECS-II/GEM Host Creator window, click file and select New Configuration. The Project2 (the name of the configuration in this example) window will appear as shown in Figure 1. FIGURE 1. PROJECT2 WINDOW 2. From the menu bar, click Configure and select Insert Port. Under the Port Type and Number, select SECS-1 and then select the appropriate COM port. In this example, we selected COM 1 as shown in Figure 2. When complete, click OK. 1/11

2 FIGURE 2. DEFINING PORT TYPE AND NUMBER 3. From the menu bar, click Configure and select Insert Tool. Enter a tool name and click OK. In this example we named the tool TestCom1, as shown in Figure 3. FIGURE 3. SPECIFYING A TOOL NAME 4. Expand the TestCom1 tool by clicking the plus sign to the left of the tool. Three options will appear under the tool, as shown in Figure /11

3 FIGURE 4. EXPANDING THE TESTCOM1 TOOL 5. Under the TestCOM1 tool, double-click Communications and select the SECS tab. Set up your com port parameters for the Device ID, Retry Limit and Baud Rate. Click OK. Retain the default timer settings. FIGURE 5. SPECIFYING COM PORT PARAMETERS 6. Under the TestCOM1 tool, double-click Data Item Mappings, select the SVIDs tab and click the 3/11

4 New SVID button. 7. In the Status Variable Properties dialog box, enter the required variables, highlight U2 Unsigned 2-byte integer, under the format section, and click OK. In this example, we used the variables as shown in Figure 6. Note The variable entered for SVID represents the number of SVIDs. An unsigned 1-byte integer would yield a total of 255 SVIDs. FIGURE 6. STATUS VARIABLE PROPERTIES DIALOG BOX 8. Next, in the Select SECS Item Format dialog box, verify the format selected is U2 Unsigned 2- byte integer and click OK. FIGURE 7. VERIFYING SVID FORMAT 9. You will be returned to the Data Items Mapping dialog box. Under the Status Variable List Varieants section click the New List button. 10. In the New List Variant dialog box, for the List Name enter taglist. Under Items Available, highlight tag1 and click the Add button, as shown in Figure 8. The item, tag1, should then appear under the Items in List. 4/11

7 Creating an InTouch Application 1. In WindowMaker, create a new window. From the menu bar, select Special, click on Configure and then click on Wizard/ActiveX Installation, as shown in Figure 11. FIGURE 11. WINDOWMAKER WINDOW 2. In the Wizard/ActiveX Installation dialog box, click the ActiveX Control Installation tab. Under the Available ActiveX controls section, highlight Wonderware SECS-II/GEM Host Runtime and click the Install button. 3. When complete, the Wonderware SECS-II/GEM Host Runtime will appear under the Installed ActiveX controls section, as shown in Figure 12. Click the Close button. 7/11

8 FIGURE 12. INSTALLING ACTIVEX CONTROLS 4. In WindowMaker, click the Wizard hat and highlight ActiveX Controls. The SECSHost wizard should appear. Select the SECSHostl and drop it on the newly created window, as shown in Figure /11

To activate the Traffic TraceLevel, double-click the SECSHost. Click the Properties tab and under the Property section find Traffic TraceLevel and enter Traffic as the Associated Tag. 9/11

10 FIGURE 15. ADDING THE ASSOCIATED TAG 7. Next, using the following script, create an action pushbutton associated with the load tool button. < #SecsHost1.LoadSECSEngine("TestCOM1",1);> 8. Using the following tag, create a discrete value pushbutton (use the toggle option) associated with the Traffic Trace button. < Traffic > <Define the traffic tag as a memory discrete> 9. Using the following script, create an action bushbutton associated with the Get Value button. <#SecsHost1.DoSECSMessageEx (1, 3, "taglist");> 10. Create a memory integer tag called tag Next, create an application script similar to the following: <tag1=$second;> while running, every 1000ms. 12. When complete, create an analog display with a value of tag In runtime, click the Load Tool, Traffic Trace, and the Get Value buttons. Note Each time you click the Get Value button, the item tag1 should match-up with tag1 on the equipement side. 14. The following Wonderware Logger window shows an example of the equipment successfully communicating with the HOST. 10/11
