Tech Note 53 Configuring the Siemens SINEC H1 CP1413 for Windows NT All Tech Notes and KBCD documents and software are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. See the Terms of Use for more information. Topic#: This Tech Note describes how to configure the Siemens SINEC H1 CP1413 adapter card for Windows NT 3.51 and Windows NT 4.0 to run with the Wonderware Siemens SINEC H1 CP1413 I/O Server for Windows NT. The Siemens SINEC TF-1413/NT software version 2.04 is to be used with Windows NT 3.51 (although Wonderware Technical Support has successfully tested it under Windows NT 4.0). Version 3.2 or higher is to be used with Windows NT 4.0. Procedure 1. Install the SINEC H1 CP1413 adapter card in the computer by following the instructions in the Siemens hardware installation documentation provided with the adapter card. 2. Install the Siemens TF-1413/Windows NT software program on your computer by following the instructions in the Siemens software installation documentation provided with the software program. Note Your userid must have permission to make entries in the registry. If you do not have the correct permissions, you will not be able to make the required entries in the registry. Also, the error that results when the registry has not been updated (which states that the H1 CP1413 configuration is only valid after a reboot) is misleading and the necessary drivers will not be loaded. The directory C:\Sinec should be created, along with a program group and icon for the SINEC Setup program under the Windows NT Start menu. The command line for the SINEC Setup program will be C:\Sinec\Tools.nt\Setupwnt.exe. The SINEC Setup program will automatically start up immediately after the installation to allow you to enter the configuration data. Or, you can enter this program by clicking on its program icon. 3. When the SINEC Setup program starts, you should see the following dialog box shown in figure 1. FIGURE 1. SINEC SETUP PROGRAM DIALOG BOX 1/7

Note that the version number is not the version of the SINEC TF-1413/NT software, but rather the version of the SINEC Setup program. Click the OK button to start the SINEC Setup program. 4. In the SINEC Setup program window, highlight CP 1413 from the CP type list. Select Configure new CP or Modify configured CP from the Edit menu as shown here in figure 2. FIGURE 2. SINEC TF-1413/NT SOFTWARE VERSION 2.04 If you are using version 3.2 of the SINEC TF-1413/NT software, the SINEC Setup program window looks similar, but following additional options appear as shown here: FIGURE 3. SINEC TF-1413/NT SOFTWARE VERSION 3.2 After selecting Configure new CP or Modify configured CP from the Edit menu, the SINEC Reconfiguration CP 1413 dialog box will then appear as shown in figure /7

FIGURE 4. SINEC TF-1413/NT SOFTWARE VERSION 3.2 Delete any entries in the Compatible databases listbox (example: Sample.ldb). Under the PC hardware parameter section, make sure that the Device name is listed as "CP_H1_1:" and enter the I/O Port address, the Interrupt level and the Dual-port-RAM address for the H1 CP1413 adapter card that was installed under step 1. Click the OK button to continue. 5. The following message will appear shown in figure 5, but click the OK button to continue: FIGURE 5. SINEC CP 1413 DRIVER CONFIGURATION MESSAGE You will then be asked the following question shown in figure 6. FIGURE 6. SINEC CP 1413 DRIVER FOLLOWUP QUESTION Click the Yes button if you want to save the configuration data and exit the SINEC Reconfiguration CP 1413 dialog box. Click the No button if you want to abandon the 3/7

configuration data and exit the reconfiguration dialog box. Or click the Cancel button if you want to return to the reconfiguration dialog box to begin again. If you click the Yes button, you will see the following message shown in figure 7. FIGURE 7. SINEC CP 1413 DRIVER CONFIRMATION MESSAGE Click the OK button to acknowledge the message. 6. After you have saved the CP 1413 configuration data, you should see the SINEC Setup program window reappear, as shown in figure 1. Highlight the TF-1413/Windows NT entry in the Software Package listbox, then select Driver from the Edit menu. Select Activate from the Driver menu s drop down menu as shown in figure 8. FIGURE 8. ACTIVATING THE SINEC CP 1413 DRIVER Then, select Exit from the File menu to exit the SINEC Setup program. Shut down the Windows NT operating system and reboot the computer. 7. The CP 1413 device driver should be running properly after the system reboots. (Note that Windows NT may take longer to start up again because of the installed device driver.) Verify that the CP 1413 device driver was loaded and started up properly by doing one of three things: a. Make sure that the Windows NT Event Viewer has no errors logged for the CP 1413 device driver when Windows NT starts up. You may see an informational event in the Event Viewer as shown in figure 9 on the next page. 4/7

FIGURE 9. VERIFYING THE SINEC CP1413 DRIVER IN THE EVENT VIEWER Or b. Start up the SINEC Startup program, then highlight CP 1413 from the CP type list. Select Diagnostic from the SINEC Startup program s Edit menu. Then select State from the Diagnostic menu s drop down menu. You should see the SINEC Setup program window (or similar) appear which lists the valid parameters for the CP 1413 as shown in figure 10 on the next page. 5/7

FIGURE 10. VERIFYING THE SINEC CP1413 DRIVER IN THE SINEC SETUP PROGRAM The above window indicates that the CP 1413 device driver is running properly. If you see only one line listed in the window, then the driver is not running. If this is the case, then you should review the previous steps and make sure that you have properly installed and configured the CP 1413 device driver. Or c. Start up the H1 CP1413 I/O Server and select Adapter Card Settings from the Configure menu. If the CP 1413 device driver is running properly, you should see the Primary Adapter Card enabled and the secondary adapter card disabled as shown in figure 11.. FIGURE 11. VERIFYING THE SINEC CP1413 DRIVER IN THE H1 CP1413 I/O SERVER You have properly installed, configured, and tested the SINEC H1 CP1413 adapter card and it is ready to be used with the H1 CP1413 I/O Server.
