(Valid from 2013) How to use Patient Travel in Skåne Skånetrafiken's responsibility Skånetrafiken is an administration within Region Skåne, and is responsible for the public transportation network in Skåne. Skånetrafiken is additionally responsible for the transportation of patients in Region Skåne. We administrate patient transport, handle requests for travelling expenses and provide information. Patient Travel in Skåne If you become sick there are several ways of travelling to get the medical attention you need. Buses and trains are a good alternative in many cases, but it's your own medical condition that might give you the right to travel by taxi. In this folder we describe how patient travel in Skåne works. Public transport for everyone! Skånetrafiken is working to make public transport more accessible to everyone. Amongst other things we do is to adapt buses, trains, stations and stopping points so that people with disabilities can travel with us. You can read more about public transport and how you can travel with it at Inter-hospital routes We have dedicated hospital routes between the major hospitals in Skåne. On one of these the route between Lund and Helsingborg there's even a toilet onboard. More information about the routes is available through the Central Booking Service. This is Patient Travel You can get compensation for patient travel when you travel to/from your registered home address and to/from Region Skåne's healthcare facilities. When you travel by bus, train and private car you can also apply for compensation afterwards. When you travel by Taxi, Region Skåne subsidises the cost of your journey. You will always pay part of the cost regardless of your mode of travel.
This is how to travel You can get patient travel compensation equivalent to the cheapest mode of travel in relation to your medical condition. The cheapest modes of travel are bus, train (second class) and private car. Bus and train When you travel on Region Skåne's buses and trains you pay the regular public transport fare. Remember to always retain your ticket if you reach the high-cost protection level! For more information see High-cost Protection. Private car If you use a private car the patient travel compensation is 1.70 kr/km. For one-off journeys compensation is only payable if the journey is longer than 73 km. If you make several shorter journeys you collect theses until you have reached the high-cost protection level. Following this, compensation will be paid out. A deduction will be made with a contribution per car. Parking charges are not covered. Taxi If, because of your medical condition, you cannot travel by bus and train or private car, the healthcare personnel within Region Skåne can attest patient travel by taxi, and issue a patient travel certificate. Persons over the age of 85 are exempt. They have the right to travel by taxi to healthcare facilities without it having to be attested by a patient travel certificate. The patient travel certificate is sent to Skånetrafiken Patient Travel in good time before a planned journey. Following this you can order your patient travel through the Central Booking Office for Service Travel. For those in need of special transport there are also taxi vehicles that can take passengers in wheelchairs and on stretchers. You pay your contribution for your journeys by invoice from Region Skåne. A monthly invoice is sent to your home address. Companions You can take up to three person with you as companions, which you indicate when booking your journey. The pay their own contribution as passengers. Note that the travel cost for companions is included on your invoice for your own contributions. Patient travel by taxi is always coordinated with other travellers.
Air travel If you due to your medical condition need to travel by air, you can get compensation for your flights. You apply for compensation after the journey, minus your contribution. This shall be attested on the patient travel certificate. For those with Mobility Service If you have the right to mobility service you can travel in the same manner. If you need to travel in a different manner your healthcare facility can attest this on your patient travel certificate. Show the driver your service travel card/mobility service card when you travel. Patient Travel outside Skåne Specialist care and limited waiting time guarantee You can get compensation for patient travel that is covered by the national limited waiting time guarantee and specialist care. You must enclose your referral/payment order stating your entitlement to travel together with the Request for Travel Compensation form. Free choice of healthcare You will not be entitled to patient travel compensation if the referral/payment order is issued based on your own request for treatment outside Skåne. Compensation for Patient Travel You request travel compensation by sending in the Request for Travel Compensation form together with your patient receipt/attestation for care, and any tickets and certification for escort. All in original form. Your request must be made within one year of the date of travel. The form is available at healthcare facilities, Skånetrafiken and at High-cost Protection If you over the course of a twelve-month period have paid contributions up to kr you pay no further contribution for the remaining period. The period is calculated from the first travel date. Remember therefore to save all your patient receipts and patient travel receipts! Children under 18 in the same family (same household) have a common high-cost protection. You apply for high-cost protection on a specific form.
Instalment payments of your patient travel You can choose to pay your patient travel by instalments already from the first journey. You can then pay 300 kr per month up to the high-cost protection level. You make a specific application for this. Contact Skånetrafiken Patient Travel. If you need an escort If you are under 18 or over 85, you always have the right to take an escort with you free of charge. For others it is the healthcare provider to assess the medicinal motivation for an escort, and this shall be stated on the patient travel certificate. If you travel by bus or train you can request travel compensation for escort afterwards. For further information about Patient Travel In the first instance you can ask your healthcare provider about matters concerning patient travel. You can also contact Skånetrafiken's patient travel coordinator or visit This is how to contact us Skånetrafiken Patient Travel Address: Skånetrafiken Sjukresor, HÄSSLEHOLM Telephone: Telefax: sjukresor@skanetrafiken.se Website: Contact the Central Booking Office for Service Travel If you due to medical reasons cannot travel by public transport and have a certificate issued for patient travel by your healthcare provider, call and order your journey on If you live in Malmö, call We are open around the clock!
This is how much Patient Travel costs If you travel on Skånetrafiken's buses and trains, normal public transport charges are applied as your contribution. If you travel by other means (taxi, private car or air), it is the length of journey that determines what you pay by contribution: refer to the table below. However you will never need to pay more than 124 kr per single journey. Children under the age of seven travel free of charge. Children/youth fares apply until the 20th birthday. Journey length Contribution Contribution up to adult child/youth 8 km 26 kr 16 kr 12 km 33 kr 20 kr 16 km 40 kr 24 kr 20 km 46 kr 28 kr 24 km 52 kr 31 kr 28 km 58 kr 35 kr 32 km 64 kr 39 kr 36 km 70 kr 42 kr 40 km 44 km 76 kr 82 kr 46 kr 49 kr 48 km 88 kr 53 kr 52 km 94 kr 57 kr 56 km 100 kr 60 kr 60 km 106 kr 63 kr 64 km 112 kr 66 kr 68 km 118 kr 69 kr Over 68 km 124 kr 72 kr Travel by bus and train when you can and service travel when you need to. This is how to contact us Skånetrafiken Patient Travel Address: Skånetrafiken Sjukresor, HÄSSLEHOLM Telephone: Telefax: sjukresor@skanetrafiken.se Website: Contact the Central BookingCentre for Patient Travel If you due to medical reasons cannot travel by public transport and have a certificate issued for patient travel by your healthcare provider, call and order your journey on If you live in Malmö, call We are open around the clock! This text provides a summary of the current patient travel regulations. The complete regulations with the associated rates and conditions of transport for Service Travel and information about the patient travel charge are available at This is where we have collected all information
and you can download the latest versions of the information material and forms. You can also have the information sent home. Contact Skånetrafiken Patient Travel.
