Enter your username 3. Enter your password (lowercase lastname + last 4 digits of your social security number) For example: lastname1234 For additional support or information on how to configure your Sacred account please review the Help guide found in the upper right hand section of the webpage. If you experience any issues with logging in please contact tech support: At this website you have the option to submit your issue anonymously. Please be sure to provide us your name and an alternate ID or a telephone number to contact you. For any other tech support questions (other than a log-in issue) please feel free to use your username (lastname.firstname@shms.edu) and password to post an issue to the support site. Technology Guide
IDENTIFICATION BADGE During normal technology office hours you may collect your identification badge from the IT Support staff. You will be asked to pose for a picture to be used on the badge. The badge creation usually takes only a few minutes. Badges are currently used for access to the library, to check items out of the library, to print, purchase food in the cafeteria, and to make photocopies. WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS To connect to the SHMS wireless internet service, you will need a wireless network card and a web browser. After you have connected to the wireless service labeled SHMS on your Wi-Fi enabled computer and opened your browser you will notice a message requesting your username & password. Please enter your username in the format "last.first" and use the same password used for checking your . Please be aware of Sacred s Policy for Acceptable Use for the Internet as indicated on the log in page. By logging in you accept the terms and conditions of this agreement. Once you have entered your Username and Password just press Login and you will have access to the Internet. Technology Guide
What do I do if I have a guest on campus that doesn't have SHMS credentials, but wants to connect to the SHMS wireless network?** Guests of the seminary that do not have SHMS credentials that would like to utilize the wireless network at SHMS are welcomed to register themselves using the "Sign Up" option located at the bottom of the login page. Clicking "Sign Up" will take the guest to a form were they will be asked to provide their first and last names, the company or group they are associated with, a phone number they can be reached at, an address and will be asked to accept the terms of the usage policy. The guest can then self-register by or by SMS (text message). SMS (text message) If the guest chooses "Register by SMS" a numeric access pin will be sent to the phone number used on the registration form. The guest will need to enter this pin into the following screen to gain access to the wireless network. **PLEASE NOTE** Due to a multitasking limitation of ios, apple devices like ipads and iphones cannot self-register using the SMS method. If the guest chooses "Register by " then the user will gain access to the network for ten minutes. During this ten minute period the guest will need to check the account used on the registration form for a registration confirmation . This will contain a unique link that must be clicked to complete the registration. **The new self-registration replaces the need to contact the rector's office or library circulation desk to gain temporary access to the wireless network. What do I do if I have a device that I would like to connect to the wireless network that does not have the ability to use a captive portal, such as an Xbox, Roku, Internet enabled DVD player, Wii, Playstation, Kindle, Nook, etc...? Users with SHMS accounts are welcomed to connect non-"computer" devices to the wireless network by manually entering the MAC address (sometimes called "Machine Address" or "media access control" address) of the device in question into the gaming system registration page located here: This page will first ask you to enter your SHMS credentials and accept the usage policy. You will then be asked for the MAC address of the device you will be connecting to the wireless network. Generally, the MAC address of a device will be printed somewhere on the surface of the device; however, the exact location of your MAC address will vary based on the specific device you are using. Please Note: While we make every effort to provide wireless access in all residential, library, and classroom locations, some areas in the SHMS facility will have stronger coverage than others. For this reason, if you have a wireless device with either an old wireless card, or a weak wireless card, you may experience intermittent connectivity in some locations. Testing the entire campus using an Intel(R) Centrino(R) Ultimate-N 6300 AGN wireless network card we were able to successfully connect in all residential, library, and classroom locations. Your specific wireless network card may produce different results. Technology Guide
COMPUTER LABS Logging In A computer lab is located in the Cardinal Szoka library and is open to all users of Sacred during the library s normal operating hours. There are additional labs located in resident areas for seminarian use. To log into the computers in the lab use: Username: lastname.firstname@shms.edu Password (until you ve changed your password): lastname (all lowercase) + last 4 digits of social security number (e.g. lastname1234) Changing Your Password in the Computer Lab You can change your password after logging in to one of the lab computers by pressing ctrl + alt + delete and selecting the action button Change Password. You will need to enter your current password and then your new password twice. Printing from the computer lab There are printers available for use in every lab for a fee. These printers are already installed on all lab computers and ready for use. The fee for printing and copying is $0.01 per page. You will need to ensure you have enough funds in your account before printing. As a courtesy provided by Sacred, at the beginning of the semester you will receive a credit of $5.00 applied to your account. You may add funds to your account by using the virtual Cash Acceptor located in the Cardinal Szoka Library. Simply follow the instructions on the machine to increase your account value. Note: the Virtual Cash Acceptor will not provide change. When you print a job, it will not print it immediately, but instead will be held in a queue. You will need to use your ID badge to release a print job. This system ensures that you are present and ready to collect your job. Note: If you can't find your print job it may have 'timed out'. Print jobs are held by the release station for 12 hours. If they have not been released after this time they will be deleted. Please note that it may take up to 30 seconds for the printer to warm up after clicking Print. PRINTING FROM YOUR PERSONAL COMPUTER Printing is available to all users with valid SHMS credentials. To print from your personal computer equipment to one of the printers located on the SHMS network, you will need to first connect to the internet (see Wireless Internet Access for information on connecting to the SHMS wireless internet service). Once you have an internet connection, you can go to Technology Guide
Once you enter your username in the format last.first (as indicated on the login page) you will see detailed print information including how much your printing has cost the seminary (since December 2010), how many print jobs you ve submitted in total, and the total environmental impact of your printing. Click on Web Print on the left of the screen. Click Submit a Job and follow the on screen instructions for uploading your PDF document for printing. A few notes about web printing: - You must upload a PDF document. This is the only format supported by web printing. If you need help converting your document to a PDF format, please go to - Only lab printers are availble for web printing. - Only the copy count is availble for job options. - To print in duplex mode, (two sided printing) please select the printer labeled ps1\hpm4345xduplex - You can release your web print job at any of the lab printers. CHANGING YOUR PASSWORD FROM THE INTERNET If you know your existing password and username and you would like to change your password, you can do so from any internet enabled computer. To change your password, please go to Technology Guide
From here, select Change my Password. You will be prompted for your existing username and password. For security purposes, please enter your name in the format SHMS\last.first. For example, user John Doe would enter his username as SHMS\doe.john. RESETTING A LOST PASSWORD FROM THE INTERNET If you ve forgotten your password and need to access SHMS resources you can submit an anonymous ticket using the support portal (see Getting Support ) or you can call the technology support phone number (see Getting Support ) or you can reset your password yourself using the password portal. PLEASE NOTE: You can only reset a lost password if you create a unique security profile while you still know your password. For this reason, we encourage all users to create a security profile as soon as possible. To create your unique security profile used to reset a forgotten password, go to From here, click Edit my Profile. You will be prompted for your username and password. For security purposes, please enter your name in the format SHMS\last.first. For example, user John Doe would enter his username as SHMS\doe.john. Next select three questions and create three answers. This will create a secure password profile with information only you will know. Once you ve completed creating your unique security profile, you will be able to select Reset my Password at anytime. You will be prompted for your username and password. For security purposes, please enter your name in the format SHMS\last.first. For example, user John Doe would enter his username as SHMS\doe.john. After entering your user account information, you will be asked one of the three unique security profile questions you created earlier. Technology Guide
If you answer the question correctly you will be allowed to reset your password to anything you like. OTHER SERVICES All services (e.g. online printing, web conferencing, technology training, etc) can be found on the SHMS resources tab, located in LIBRARY RESOURCES The primary location to access library resources is At this location you can login using your username in the format last.first and your password. After logging in you can browse the library collection, place holds on resources, renew materials you have checked out, create lists to aid in your research, and even Browse Shelf. When using the Browse Shelf feature, you can see what items are physically near the resource you are looking for in the library. This will often produce results not found when performing traditional text searches. This is an invaluable research tool. BUYING FOOD IN THE CAFETERIA To purchase food in the cafeteria, you will need to first obtain an ID from the library circulation desk. You will also need to visit and login using the format lastname.firstname and your password. After logging in you can add value to your food account by clicking add credit. Technology Guide
From here you will be prompted to select the value you would like to add to your account. Once you select the value you would like to add, you will be redirected to a secure payment processing portal to complete your transaction.
