The practical exercise will involve opening pesticide containers and prepare different pesticides formulations. The practical exercise will inform the students the roles of inert ingredients, adjuvant and surfactant in pesticides formulation. 6&7 Brand name abbreviation, factors to be considered before selecting pesticides formulation, pesticides mixing technology, liquid formulation i.e emulsifiable concentrate, solution,ready-to use low concentration solution, ultra- low volume and aerosol 8 Dry formulation (baits, paste, gel, dust, granules, pellets, wettable powder, soluble powder, microencapsulated, water soluble packet, fumigants. Pesticide compatibility/mixture 9 & 10 Calculation of active ingredient content of formulation and dosage of insecticides: Calculation of dissolve substance in w/w, w/v, v/v; Calculation of dilution rates of concentrates, Calculation of active ingredient, Calculation involve liquid and solid concentrate preparation and calculation of dosage for surface treatment. Exercises will involve teaching students the factors to be considered before selecting pesticide formulation. Taught students spray mixing technology and differences between different liquid formulation. Students will be requested to prepare different solid pesticide formulation in the practical class. Student will be taught practical application of fumigant insecticide on grains in bulk, grains in bin and grains in sacks for long term storage. MID-SEMESTER TEST During the practical class students will be requested to do some calculations.
