5 FP10 Stationery Changes for ETP NPFIT-ETP-EDB Purpose The purpose of this document is to specify the required changes to the FP10 form stationery that are required to support the Electronic Transmission of Prescriptions (ETP) programme. This document does not define the over-printing requirements for an electronic prescription token. 2 Required Changes to FP10 Stationery for ETP 2.1 Reason for Changes Prescriptions generated by the ETP service are uniquely identified by a 32 character hexadecimal number (known as a Universal Unique Identifier or UUID). For the initial deployment of the ETP service the prescriber will be required to issue the patient with an FP10 that additionally contains the prescription UUID printed as a barcode. The most suitable location for the barcode has been agreed by the NPfIT and PPA is within the right hand column (in white area) of the prescription form by Astron (the prescription printing manufacturer). This meets good practice guidelines for barcode printed as the barcode will be printed in a vertical alignment and this area of the form has the available room to print such a barcode. However this area of the form currently contains the prescription form type version number (e.g. FP10SS0403 ) and if the version number and the barcode are printed in this area it may result in the inability to successfully scan the bar code. 2.2 Definition of Changes The required changes are as follows; 1. Relocate the area to direct the patient to read the patient notes to the top of the blank right hand portion of the FP10 form that is often used for repeat medication details. This will optimise scanning results of the prescription form type version number. 2. Relocate the prescription form type version number to the area of the form currently used to direct the patient to read the patient notes. 3. Removal of the colour background at the foot of the prescription form for optimum scanning results of the prescription form type version number. 4. Removal of the black dividing lines on the right hand column outline for Date and Title, Forename, Surname, & Address areas to improve the success of interpreting the UUID printed on the bar code. 6 Shown in Figure 1 is the current FP10 form together with new FP10 form indicating the proposed changes referenced above.
