Course Description: This subject supplies the students with knowledges about: the foreign exchange rate, factors affecting the foreign exchange rate, the risks of the foreign exchange rate and solutions. Some transactions on the foreign exchange market such as Spot, Forward, Swap, Option, and futures Some instruments of international payment: Bill of exchange, promissory note, cheque, payment card...some methods of international payment: Telegraphic Transfer, Cash against documents, collection, Letter of credit their advantages and disadvantages as well. Documents in the the field of the international payment, some common differences in documents and ways to solve these problems. Vietnamese laws and international regulations relating to the international payment. D. Course Objectives: No. 1. Course Objectives Supply with knowledges of types of currencies used in the world, ways to calculate the foreign exchange rate.

2 Help the students catch the idea, understand and apply the foreign exchange transactions and the methods of payment nowadays. Provide the students in the field of international trade with the content of some instruments of payment such as Bill of exchange, Cheque... Enrich the students with techniques of dealing with the documents in the section of the international payment. Equip the students with specialized knowledges to solve cases in the international payment. E. Learning Outcomes: No. Learning Outcomes 1. Have knowledge about different kinds of currencies in the world. Know how to read the foreign exchange rate, ways to calculate the cross rate 2. quickly, risks of the foreign exchange rate and various solutions to solve the problems. Understand different instruments in the international payment such as Bill of 3. Exchange, Cheque, payment cards..., the way to establish and procedure to use them. Know and apply the flexible methods of international payment in the foreign 4 trade transactions and their advantages, disadvantages as well. Learn about some sorts of special letter of credit in the international payment 5 (tranferable L/C, back to back ;/C, standby L/C) Build up the applicaion for opening the letter of credit by themselves, and 6 understand the content of a letter of credit. Be good at arranging payment documnets, checking these files, identifying 7 differences in documents, and solving cases arising. Have the knowledges of risks, disputes often happening in the area of the 8 international payment. F. Instructional Modes: This subject is carried out by lecture and exercises of students groups as following: 1. Lecture: - The lecture time is 30 periods (2/3 total amount of time for this subject), spends 1 4 weeks; it means that there will be a theoretical class in every week. Teachers lecture in English and note some special terms in English. - Before going to school, students read stipulated chapter of the textbook in the course outline first. Besides, students must read more materials, Bill if exchange, application form for opening L/C, documents in the field of the international payment. - Students go to class to observe and listen to definitions, difficult or important ideals of each chapter stressed by lecturer and update practice knowledge at present. - If students have problems from above step 1 to step 3, they need discuss with their friends or bring them to class to debate with others in the exercise period. 2. and exercise

3 - 1/3 of total time (about 15 periods) is for presentation and exercises, there is one period every week after the theoretical time. - After the theoretical time, students practices exercises and answer questions in the textbook (as said in the course outline) to check whether they understand the lessons or not. - As to presentation, students will be divided into small groups, not more than 10 students each group to do topics assigned by lecturer. - Before the time for making presentation, students should learn practical issues related to their topic as much as possible. - After a group makes presentation, students in class and lecturer make questions and discuss with each other to make clear all key problems of the topic. - In the semester, students will do a major exercise to get marks in week At the end of exercise period, the lecturer will summarize all main ideas so that all the class will have more knowledge about this topic. Description of learning outcomes assessment Students learn The international payment will be remarked by three ways: 1.1 Exercise: Students do exercises after each theoretical chapter. 1.2 Major assignment: i. Students are divided into many groups, each group consists of less than 10 students. Every group will make research and make presentation about one topic assigned by lecturer.

4 ii. This is the work of the whole group, so students will be remarked as one group, which means that all students in the same group will receive the same marks for the result. If any member sees that one student in group doesn t contribute to the result, please inform the lecturer to solve the problem. In he can t bear this situation, he can do the assignment by himself. iii. The mark of presentation replaces for the mid-term mark. 1.3 The final test The final test will extend 90 minutes. The test will include essay. This test will check both theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge as well. Students are prohibited from using 2.
