Electrical Sales and Distributor Training Low Voltage Assemblies (LVA) LVA Take Offs in Bid Manager This job aid helps to define some of the common selection questions that are encountered when configuring Low Voltage Assemblies (LVA) in Bid Manager. System Tab Guide 100% neutral should be selected when 4 wire loads are required. None should be selected when high resistance grounding is required. UL1558 and UL891 are available in drawout construction. Magnum DS breakers are provided in UL1558 and Magnum SB breakers are provided in UL891. PRLC Switchboards can be integrated into either UL1558 or UL891 assemblies and the PRLC structures will always be labeled UL891. See the Consulting and Application Guide (CAG) for breaker details. Typical service voltage is 480V or 480/277V. 600V rating has limited breaker options, see CAG for breaker details. Selection of voltage and short circuit (kaic) have implications on available layouts when arc construction is required. This is the interrupt rating of the gear, kaic. The interrupt rating determines the lowest possible breaker rating available in the gear. Short circuit (kaic) have implications on available layouts when arc construction is required. Select other to have all possible options available when using the layout tab. Provides notes on the bill of material (BOM), consult your district sales engineer (DSE) prior to selecting. Select 4 wire and neutral (#3) as none when high resistance grounding is required. This determines the number of incoming connections, not necessarily the distribution, load and connections. This is the main, horizontal, bus. The bus is not tapered, and the vertical risers may be rated less than the main bus unless otherwise noted. Configure close coupled connections to transformers, other gear and other equipment. Contact your district sales engineer prior to proceeding with any selection other than an Eaton-sourced transformer. Typical hertz is 60 for North America. Consult your district sales engineer prior to selecting 50. Select Power Xpert Gateway. Selection of non-standard nameplate background and text colors. Contact your district sales engineer prior to proceeding. Select miscellaneous control devices including customersupplied control power and 86 lockout relays.
System Tab Guide Insulation selection is for epoxy coated (3 mil thick) bus with insulating boots over maintainable joints. This is an environmental insulation system, and the epoxy coating does not provide electrical insulation. The neutral and ground busses are never insulated. This is not fluidized bed insulation. Insulation is not required to achieve required electrical clearances in Eaton Low Voltage Switchgear. Insulated runbacks only are selected on the options tab. Standard thicknesses of silver and tin plating thick silver plating is not provided as standard, contact DSE prior to proceeding. Contact sales engineer prior to proceeding with any selection other than standard. 1000A/sq.in. is not standard. Standard bus bracing (not interrupt rating, kaic) is 100ka. 150ka is available on all orders. 200ka bus bracing rating is only available when used in conjunction with 200 kaic systems and 200kaic breakers. Do not use. Ground bus options. Contact sales engineer prior to proceeding with any selection other than standard. Contact your district sales engineer and the Consulting and Application Guide for details of layout requirements for arc construction. Select type 2B, do not select type 2. Type 2B secondary door above the breaker is standard with 2B selection. Arc exhaust defaults to direct vent to room. Exhaust plenum and additional exhaust duct are selected on the option tab. Structures Tab Guide Enclosure type become active if NEMA 1 or EEMAC/N/A is selected within structures type. Labeled per UL requirements. Meets all seismic requirements of the California Building Code for zone and application is rear access has limited cable space depending on the number of breakers chosen in each structure. Recommend 72 or deeper for proper cable spacing. Floor plate material becomes active if floor plates is selected. Check to include screens and floor plates in gear. Filtered louvers is automatically checked when outdoor gear is selected. Check to include screens on all vents. Becomes active if cable selection pull box is checked. Two depths are available 18 and 30 inch.
Structures Tab Guide Default is incandescent, optional is florescent. Becomes active for NEMA 3R gear, check when required. Interior default. Exterior default. Used to secure gear to housekeeping pad. Wiring Tab Guide Mainly used by OEM customers. Consult factory for confirmation. This option is selected based on customer spec, where a greater degree of flame retardancy is desired and tested. This selection is for the type of terminals required (standard, ringtongue or locking fork). Ring-tongue Locking-fork Once these selections are set, voltage selections in the breaker takeoffs will be automatically filled-in. This selection is for the type of terminal blocks required (standard, heavy duty or states). If states terminals are required, make sure there is enough instrument space in the lineup for allocation. Consult factory for confirmation and details.
Lugs/Mimic/Transfer/CPT Tab Guide This selection is for the type of lugs required (mechanical or compression). The actual size of the lugs are to be specified in the breaker takeoff. This selection is for the type of GND lugs required (mechanical or compression). This selection is for the type of mimic bus required. Always offer plastic screw-on type. Size is 3/8 standard. Colors red and black are standard. All other colors are considered special and should consult with factory for availability and pricing. When applicable, must check the box to make selection active before selecting desired scheme. This option gives you the ability to select multiple sources. With only (1) main breaker, a single source control power would be appropriate. If there are multiple power sources in the lineup with a transfer scheme, then you have the option to choose more than one. It can also be customer supplied control power if external source is available. Trip units other than DT520 require control power. Accessories Tab Guide Circuit breaker not shipped in the assemblies. This selection should be used when requested by customer. Breakers will be shipped outside of the switchgear in their own individual packaging. Overhead breaker lifter is included by default. The lifter is removed when NEMA 3R aisle-less enclosure is selected under structures. This option is used when space heaters are required. Default is 3 heaters per structure, placed in breaker, bus and cable compartments. Maximum of 5 structures per thermostat. Quantity of thermostat needs to be increased when there are 5+ structures in the lineup. Voltage can be selected as 120 or 240VAC, switchgear or customer supplied. If switchgear supplied, then it will impact sizing of the CPT.
Breaker Tab Guide Greyed-out fields containing text values are non-selectable and typically driven by other selections within the takeoff. Pay close attention to short time rating spec requirements, especially when MDN breakers are selected. At higher short circuit ratings, MDN short time ratings may be significantly lower than MDS ratings. When MDSL breakers with current limiters are selected, short time current will be blank (limiter selection will determine short time). Manual (MO) is the default selection. When changing from manual (MO) to electric (EO), go to control/options tab and select appropriate control switch and indication. When changing from EO to MO, go to control/options tab and set the breaker control switch to none. Provision - does not contain a breaker, but is fully equipped to receive a breaker without field conversion (plug and play). All secondary wiring is included with this option as well. Space - does not contain a breaker. Contains connections to riser bus, but no breaker cell. Requires field conversion and secondary wiring to accept a future breaker. The plant recommends using provisions in lieu of spaces, unless there is a specific reason to utilize a space. Storage compartment - used specifically for storing a spare breaker in a lineup. Cannot be converted to an active breaker. Interrupt rating defaults to minimum short circuit rating selection from system tab. In some cases, a higher rating may be selected here if needed. When 200KAIC is required, frame type must be set to standard frame. Breaker frame rating. Determines MDS or MDN frame. Consult factory when 4 pole configurations are required. 4 pole breakers should only be configured with MDS frame (not MDN). 520MC or 1150 must be used when ARMS feature and/or communication is required. Nonauto may be selected when specification requires external relay protection (available up to 85kA max). Set sensor and trip ratings as needed per customer specific requirements. Trip function should be set to LSI when system is Delta, or when there is an HRG in the system. Does not affect pricing. All trip units are provided with instantaneous feature, whether checked or not. This field is currently n/a. Service entrance is selected under the structures tab. Configures digitrip power supply (DPS) voltage for 520M, 520MC, and 1150 trip units. 120-VAC is the default value unless preselected to a different voltage on the wiring tab. Only applicable to MDSL breakers. Default limiter selections are automatically populated. Based on frame/sensor rating. Some configurations allow changing the limiter size to meet specific coordination requirements. Refer to CAG Section for information regarding alternate selections and limiter characteristics. This selection will include a compartment (din-rail) mounted cap trip accessory. When cap trip box is checked, the shunt trip voltage under the related control/options tab will be fixed to 208V-250VAC/DC. Will be automatically set according to system tab (wye or delta, and 3W or 4W) selections, and trip function on this tab. For 4-wire systems that have 3-wire feeder loads, the default selections may be overridden. Source ground requires special consideration. If source or single point T ground system is required, consult the factory. Applicable to 1150 trip unit only. Allows user to configure whether PT connection is internally wired to the line side (upper terminals) or load side (lower terminals) of the breaker. The default is upper terminals and should generally not be changed except for special circumstances, such as when breaker is reverse-fed.
Breaker Tab Guide Cable quantities are pre-selected based on frame / sensor ratings. Phase / Neutral lug sizes default to 500kcmil cable. Sizes and quantities may be adjusted as necessary for the application. Use other when manual size and quantity selections need to be made. Cable is typically checked by default for mains and feeders. De-select when breaker is to be close-coupled to a transformer, or when busway connection is desired. The default selection will be determined by whether neutral has been selected on system tab. This selection will not be automatically updated if neutral is added (or removed) after breaker has been placed in the lineup. This determines line or load side cable terminations. The default setting for mains is line Side, and load side for feeder breakers. Both Line and load cables can be selected for special applications, such as single breaker cable in/cable out scenarios. However, the both line and load selection will not necessarily drive an accurate one line representation. If the breaker is to be busway connected instead of cable connected, the cable connection should first be unchecked. Typically, busway coordination details such as T direction and line number are unknown until after order entry. These details should not be pre-selected by sales unless coordination has been determined in advance. The following are limitations when busway connections are required and always consult the factory if there is any question regarding busway layout requirements: No A position busway connection is allowed when busway is top entry. Likewise, no D position allowed for bottom entry. When (top entry) busway connected breakers are stacked in the same vertical section with cable connected breakers, the busway connected breaker must be located above cable connected breakers. Contact the factory if two breakers stacked in a vertical section require busway connections. This situation can usually be accommodated with 84 or 90 depths. Non-segregated busway connections are preferred with arc-resistant switchgear assemblies. Contact the factory when non-segregated busway or non-eaton vendor is required. Non-segregated busway typically requires more layout consideration than Powerway III. 5000A connection maximum is currently available. Contact the factory for applications requiring >5000A busway connections. Contact the factory when aluminum busway is requested.
Breaker Tab Guide All breaker control voltages may be pre-selected by settings on the wiring tab. If control voltages are known, they should be set prior to populating breakers. Otherwise, the default setting is 120VAC, or 120VAC/DC for dual rated accessories. Motor, spring release, spring charge light applicable to EO breakers only. If second shunt trip is required, a maximum of 4a/4b aux contacts are available. Undervoltage (UVR) accessory is typically used for special applications, such as for E-Stop circuits or generator breaker applications. If spec requires an undervoltage trip, an 1150 trip unit with UPS or DC control should be considered in lieu of selecting UVR accessory. Latch check options provides indication that breaker is charged and trip latch is not engaged, or may prevent close signal from being applied until breaker is ready to close. Consult breaker IL for further details. Standard control switch and LED type is Eaton E34. When target and/or pistol grip switches are required per spec, W2 selection may be used for pricing purposes. In these cases (whenever possible), it should be noted in spec clarification that Electroswitch series 20 or 31 is preferred. W2 or Series 24 will not fit in breaker secondary compartment and require separate instrument compartment mounting space. Status lights may be selected for LED indication with MO breakers, or EO breakers with only remote open/close operation. White status LED supplied above breaker when selected. LED and remote contact supplied breaker when selected. These options typically auto-populated by other field selections. When selected in conjunction with UVR, includes separate instrument compartment (din rail) time delay module with selectable values of.1,.5, one and two seconds. Should only be used for specific applications. Indicator selection includes mechanical pop-out flag only. Select indicator with 2-Form C contacts, when local LED or remote overcurrent trip indication is required, or for any applications requiring multiple breaker interlocking. Set auxiliary contacts per specification requirements. For multiple breaker interlocking applications, 6a/6b contacts should be used. Set cell switch contacts per specification requirements. For multiple breaker interlocking applications, select 8-Form C cell switch contacts. Selectable when called for per specification requirements. Adds E34 2-position switch with padlockable cover and 30mm blue LED (located in compartment above corresponding breaker). Adds interposing relay in breaker wire way for remote activation of ARMS and local 30mm blue LED (located in compartment above corresponding breaker). Optional selection for EO breakers which are interlocked, or when pb close / open operation needs to be inhibited or padlocked out. Kirk is the default (and preferred) vendor for key lock when required. Note that key lock / cylinder assembly is cassette mounted in LVA assemblies (not breaker mounted). Only selectable when small remote control box is checked from the options tab. Includes wired receptacle for remote plug in in secondary compartment above corresponding breaker. If selected, trip units will be factory wired for zone interlock. Default selection for electrically interlocked breakers. Includes steel block plate over manual close pushbutton. Contact the factory if these selections need to be altered. Mechanical counter. Select when required per specification.
