2 UniGear ZS1: an innovative solution for all installation requirements ABB UniGear is medium voltage metal-clad, arc proof, air insulated switchgear. It is the result of ABB global know-how integrated in a single technological solution and is ABB s answer to the range of solutions requested on the global market. Apparatus which can be installed in UniGear switchgear UniGear is Made in ABB in the 5 continents with the same design and quality standards and offers the best solutions for compact MCC, double level, duplex and special unit switchgear. It is primary distribution switchgear for all applications. Thanks to the REF542plus multifunction units, it offers the most intelligent solutions for satisfying all installation requirements. The pre-assembled module construction system allows each unit to be produced efficiently, rapidly and with high quality. Modern calculation instruments make configuration and customisation of the switchgear simple and rapid. UniGear switchgear is safe because it is built as arc proof and is free of any operating errors thanks to being fitted with safety interlocks. UniGear switchgear is tested in accordance with the IEC Standards. Further tests are carried out according to the prescriptions of Shipping Registers and to particular installation requirements. Vacuum circuit-breaker Circuit-breaker for all fields of application Vacuum interrupters with interruption system with axial magnetic flow with even distribution of the arc over the whole surface of the contacts to obtain the best performances at all the current values Epoxy resin poles for greater protection of the interrupters Vacuum circuit-breakers and contactors, gas insulated circuit-breakers and switchdisconnectors can be installed in UniGear switchgear. The earthing switch, with full making capacity, is operated from the front and is provided with safe and reliable position indicators. UniGear switchgear is certified Industrial IT, and is therefore ready for integration in the powerful open software architecture, based on Aspect Object technology. Conformity with the Industrial IT standard means easy intelligent Unigear Plug & Produce integration in all software systems, with access to the right information in real time. UniGear has limited dimensions, especially in the double level version. All compartments are accessible from the front. It is equipped with fixed vacuum circuit-breaker removable in one hour. UniGear switchgear with simple busbar system coupled to UniGear type ZVC contactor units. Each type ZVC unit is equipped with a withdrawable vacuum contactor with fuses. 4

7 UniGear ZS1: switchgear with fixed circuit-breaker The new version of the UniGear ZS1 family product is the fixed pattern with Vmax circuit-breaker. It is a very safe and reliable panel with mechanical interlocks between the circuit-breaker, line disconnector and cable testing device. This type of switchgear have the access to all the components directly from the front; all the maintenance and service operation does not require rear access. 8 Double level UniGear ZS1 switchgear Each panel consists of two independent stacked units which can be equipped with circuit-breaker or contactor. A compartment for the auxiliary instrumentation of both the units is provided in the middle part. An additional cubicle is available in the top part of the panel to house other instruments. The double level units can be coupled directly with single level units, on both ends of the switchgear. The switchgear requires access from the rear for the installation and maintenance procedures. The service operations are carried out from the front. Duplex version available. 9 UniGear ZS1: switchgear with double busbar system The double busbar system switchgear is based on two different schemes: two busbar systems, two line-side isolators and a circuit-breaker (up to 2500 A) two busbar systems, two circuit-breaker units with one or two circuit-breakers. The schemes offer redundancy of the busbar system with physical isolation between the systems. The use of this switchgear may be necessary in the case of: switching incoming units with unsynchronised circuitbreakers disconnection of loads with different levels of importance under emergency conditions isolation of particular outgoing units from the normal network balance of the outgoing units under normal service conditions flexibility during the inspection and maintenance procedures without interruption of the load possibility of extension without turning the switchgear off. 10 UniGear ZS1: type ZVC switchgear for motor switching and control Each unit is equipped with a withdrawable vacuum contactor with fuses. The use of medium voltage protection fuses strongly limits the let-through fault energy, making it possible to reduce the cross-section of the connection cables to the motor. This characteristic contributes to safeguarding the insulation levels and increasing the electrical life of the cables and of the machine connected. For users with high consumption levels, it is possible to fit the contactor with two fuses in parallel for each of the phases. The units can be coupled directly with the main switchgear, with the possibility of extension on both ends.
