1 Energizer A statewide newsletter for Citizens of Georgia Power and Company Management September 2013 State President s Message Josh Stallings A few years ago, a good friend of mine turned me onto the 1954 film Rear Window. The film was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starred James Stewart and Grace Kelly. It is a great suspense movie and offers an interesting look at human psychology. Stewart plays the main character, LB Jeffries, and the movie is set almost entirely in his apartment. Jeffries knows his neighbors not through a lot of personal interaction, but through the limited glimpse he gets of their lives through their apartment windows. Jeffries comes to believe that one of his neighbors commits a murder and the suspense takes off from there. Aside from the plot, Rear Window captures my attention because of the audience s perspective. Although the neighbors are characters in the film, we only get to see them through their apartment windows. The plot centers around an event that may or may not have happened, leaving part of the mystery up for speculation based on the limited view that the window provides. Whether we realize it or not, all of us are viewed through windows that offer a brief, limited perspective of our lives. A Citizens of Georgia Power chapter is no different. All of our chapters operate in areas in which not all of our co-workers are Citizens members. In addition, not all of our members are active in the chapter. This group of people has the same point of view relative to your chapter that LB Jeffries had relative to his neighbors. Do you ever think about what they see and how that affects their desire to get more involved in Citizens? There is no question in my mind that this will be another good year for our organization. I am not doubting that at all. If we are going to continue to build on our success in future years, we have to be able to get those around us excited about serving others and involved in the work of our chapters. If we are going to attract new people to our chapters, what they see through their rear window must be a positive reflection of what we say we are people who provide that personal touch and caring attitude in support of our employees, their families, and our communities. As you prepare for the events you have planned for the last quarter of the year, give some thought to how you and your chapter can offer those around you a larger view of what you do. In doing so, you might stoke a flame within them that opens up new service opportunities for your chapter in the future.

2 Third Quarter Classic Legacy Awards Four times during the year, we will recognize chapters chosen by the State Board for doing a GREAT job with projects, fundraising, membership drives, inputting information into CHARITY and CARES, and exemplifying what it means to be A Citizen Wherever We Serve.
